Many authors have studied the solidification process of cast iron and the effect of grain boundaries in austenite shell on the growth of spheroidal graphite. But, the studies on the melting morphology of cast iron are rare and the effect of grain boundaries in austenite shell on the melting procedure of spheroidal graphite cast iron is unknown. Therefore, in this work, the melting procedure of cast iron and the role of grain boundaries in austenite shell on the melting of spheroidal graphite have been studied. The main results are summarized as follows. 1. In white cast iron containing silicon, melting initiates at the interface between austenite matrix and temper carbon which was decomposed from $Fe_3C$ during heating. 2. In gray cast iron, melting initiates at the boundary of eutectic cell where elements with low melting temperature are condensed. The dissolution of kish graphite is difficult. 3. In spheroidal graphite cast iron containing little phosphor, melting initiates at the outer region of austenite shell in which silicon is condensed. In this case, grain boundaries in austenite shell give little effect on the melting procedure of spheroidal graphite. 4. In spheroidal graphite cast iron containing phosphor above 0.3 wt%, its melting phenomena are changed with heating rate due to the existence of steadite. In this case, it can be concluded that liquid phase of steadite, which segregated on outer region of austenite shell, moves to spheroidal graphite-austenite interface along the grain boundaries in austenite shell.
This research was made to manufacture the fabric for interior uses by spinning a low melting mono 4 denier PET staple fiber with a soluble 1.4 denier fine PET fiber. The blended yarn has a thickness ranging from 10's to 14's, and the soluble PET fine fiber was dissolved to make a pore in the polymer. Thereby a snap property was decreased and a resilience property was improved to be suitable for a functional synthetic leather. In order to attain the optimum condition, a mechanical property according to fineness, and mixing ratio of low melting polymer, warp density, weft density and blending ratio, and a heat contraction ratio according to blending ratio were experimented. The warp density, 220 T/inch of fine denier PET and the weft density, 64 T/inch of thick denier PET were generated to 4/4 both twill weave fabric having constant tensile property and thickness.
High-capacity secondary batteries can cause explosion hazards owing to microcurrent variations or current surges that occur in short circuits. Consequently, complete safety cannot be achieved with general protection that is limited to a mere current fuse. Hence, in the case of secondary batteries, it is necessary for the protector to limit the inrush current in a short circuit, and to detect the current during microcurrent variations. To serve this purpose, a fuse can be employed for the secondary battery protection circuit with current detection. This study aims at designing a protection device that can stably operate in the hazardous circumstances associated with high-capacity secondary batteries. To achieve the said objective, a detecting fuse was designed from an alloy of low melting point elements for securing stability in abnormal current states. Experimental results show that the operating I-T and V-T characteristic constraints can be satisfied by employing the proposed current detecting self-contained low melting point fuse, and through the resistance of the heating resistor. These results thus verify that the proposed protection device can prevent the hazards of short circuit current surges and microcurrent variations of secondary batteries.

Alumina powder was added in a general porcelain (Backja) with clay, feldspar and quartz contents to promote the mullite ($3Al_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$) generation in the porcelain. Low melting materials ($B_2O_3(450^{\circ}C)$, $MnO_3(940^{\circ}C)$, CuO($1080^{\circ}C$)) were doped at ~3 wt% to modify the sinterability of porcelain with a high alumina contents and promote the mullite generation. Green body was made by slip casting method with blended slurry and then, they were fired at $1280^{\circ}C$ for 1hr by a $2^{\circ}C/min$. Densifications of samples with high alumina contents (20~30 wt%) were impeded. As the doping contents of low melting materilas increased, the sinterability of samples was improved. The shrinkage rate and bulk density of samples were improved by doping with low melting materials. Mullite phase increased with increasing the low melting contents in the phase analyses. This means lots of alumina and quartz were transformed into mullite phase by low melting contents doping. In the results, high bending strength of samples with high alumina contents was accomplished by improving the densification and mullite generation in the porcelain.
In order to improve the production process of low cost and high purity Vanadium, this study was done to reduce $V_2O_5$ into V-Al master alloy by Aluminothermic Reduction, followed by refining of V-Al master alloy electron beam melting. As melting time was increased in electron beam melting of V, the contents of interstitial impurities and Al, Fe were decreased but the contents of Si, Mo and W were increased due to lower vapor pressure of these elements than that of matrix V. Consequently, it was profitable that melting of V was done for 180 seconds. In addition, with number of melting, the purity of V did not significantly vary, because volatile impurities in V were removed mostly during the first step of melting. As a result of V refining by electron beam melting, high purity Vanadium of 3N(99.91wt%) was acquired including interstitial impurities total contents of which were maximum 400ppm.

Titanium and titanium alloy are excellent in corrosion resistance and specific intensity, and also in the biocompatibility. On the other hand, the brazing is bonding method of which productivity and reliability are high, when the complicated and precise structure of the thin plate is constructed. However, though conventional titanium-based brazing filler metal was excellent in bond strength and corrosion resistance, it was disadvantageous that metal structure and mechanical property of the base metal deteriorated, since the brazing temperature (about 1000 C) is considerably high. Authors developed new brazing filler metal which added Zr to Ti-Cu (-Ni) alloy which can be brazed at 900 C or less about 15 years ago. In this paper, the development of more low-melting-point brazing filler metal was tried by the addition of the fourth elements such as Ni, Co, Cr for the Ti-Zr-Cu alloy. As a method for finding the low-melting-point composition, eutectic composition exploration method was used in order to reduce the experiment point. As the result, several kinds of new brazing filler metal such as 37.5Ti-37.5-Zr-25Cu alloy (melting point 825 C) and 30Ti-43Zr-25Cu-2Cr alloy (melting point: 825 C) was developed. Then, the brazing joint showed the characteristics which were almost equal to the base metal from the result of obtaining metallic structure and strength of joint of brazing joint. However, the brazing filler metal composition of the melting point of 820 C or less could not be found. Consequentially, it was clarified that the brazing filler metal developed in this study could be practically sufficiently used from results such as metal structure of brazing joint and tensile test of the joint.
