Effects on the Escapement of Juvenile Bastard Halibut Paralichthys olivaceus of Actively Stimulating Devices Inside a Model Cod End

  • The effects of actively stimulating devices (ASD) on juvenile flatfish escape were studied to increase escape rates from the cod end by encouraging fish to approach the net wall. Two kinds of ASD were designed: a fluttering net panel, i.e., a free-end flag-like net panel, and a double conical rope array. Escape responses of juvenile bastard halibut were observed in a circulating water channel using two model cod ends, one made with diamond-shaped 43-mm-mesh-size polyethylene (PE) as a high-contrast cod end and the other with polyamid (PA) mono-ply as a low-contrast cod end. Retention rate was significantly lower with the double conical rope-array ASD in the PE cod end than with conventional PE cod ends only or the fluttering net-panel ASD inside the PE cod end. Mean retention rate with the low-contrast PA cod end was also significantly lower than that with the high-contrast PE conventional cod end. Therefore, active fluttering devices using a double conical rope array together with less visible low-contrast netting in the cod end could help to reduce the bycatch of juvenile flatfish by weakening their optomotor response and actively driving fish to the side net panel.

  • Heterogeneous computing is a technology that utilizes different types of processors to perform parallel processing. It maximizes task processing and energy efficiency by leveraging various computing resources such as CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs. On the other hand, edge computing has developed with IoT and 5G technologies. It is a distributed computing that utilizes computing resources close to clients, thereby offloading the central server. It has evolved to intelligent edge computing combined with artificial intelligence. Intelligent edge computing enables total data processing, such as context awareness, prediction, control, and simple processing for the data collected on the edge. If heterogeneous computing can be successfully applied in the edge, it is expected to maximize job processing efficiency while minimizing dependence on the central server. In this paper, experiments were conducted to verify the feasibility of various parallel programming models on high-end and low-end edge devices by using benchmark applications. We analyzed the performance of five parallel programming models on the Raspberry Pi 4 and Jetson Orin Nano as low-end and high-end devices, respectively. In the experiment, OpenACC showed the best performance on the low-end edge device and OpenSYCL on the high-end device due to the stability and optimization of system libraries.

Reservation based Resource Management for SDN-based UE Cloud

  • Recent years have witnessed an explosive growth of mobile devices, mobile cloud computing services offered by these devices and the remote clouds behind them. In this paper, we noticed ultra-low latency service, as a type of mobile cloud computing service, requires extremely short delay constraints. Hence, such delay-sensitive applications should be satisfied with strong QoS guarantee. Existing solutions regarding this problem have poor performance in terms of throughput. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end bandwidth resource reservation via software defined scheduling inspired by the famous SDN framework. The main contribution of this paper is the end-to-end resource reservation and flow scheduling algorithm, which always gives priority to delay sensitive flows. Simulation results confirm the advantage of the proposed solution, which improves the average throughput of ultra-low latency flows.

타원곡선암호 알고리즘을 이용한 종단간 MQTT 보안 프로토콜 (End-to-end MQTT security protocol using elliptic curve cryptography algorithm)

  • 다양한 인터넷 장치들을 상호 연결하여 보다 지능적인 서비스를 제공하기 위한 사물인터넷(IoT)이 확산되고 있으며, 사물인터넷의 대표적 통신 프로토콜로 TCP 기반의 MQTT가 사용되고 있다. MQTT 기반의 IoT 장치 간 데이터 암호화 기술로 TCP의 경우 TLS/SSL 보안 프로토콜 사용을 권고하고 있지만, 저사양/저용량 IoT 장치에 적용할 경우 암복호화로 인한 성능 저하가 초래된다. 본 논문에서는 MQTT 프로토콜로 연결된 IoT 장치 간에 경량화 암호 알고리즘인 타원곡선암호를 적용한 종단간 메시지 보안 프로토콜을 제안하며, TLS/SSL과 제안 프로토콜에 대한 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안 프로토콜이 클라이언트와 서버 양측에서 성능이 향상됨을 검증하였다.

스마트 가전으로 진화된 저사양 생활가전 (Low Performance Electronics Evolved into Smart Appliances)

  • 스마트 가전은 멀티미디어, 통신 기능을 탑재하여 더욱 쉽고 편리한 복합 기능을 제공한다. 그러나 8bit 이하의 컨트롤러를 탑재한 저사양 생활가전은 멀티미디어, 통신 기능을 탑재하기에 성능의 제약이 따른다. 만약 저사양 생활가전에 적합한 통신방법과 복합 기능을 구현할 수 있는 방법을 제공한다면 저사양 생활가전도 스마트 가전과 같은 효과를 낼 수 있을 것이다. 생활가전의 8bit 컨트롤러는 UART를 내장하고 있으므로 와이파이, 블루투스 등의 모듈을 UART로 연결하면 저사양 생활가전을 스마트 장치에 접속할 수 있게 된다. 스마트 장치는 다양한 통신 방식을 지원하기 때문에 생활가전의 통신 방식에 상관없이 모두 접속이 가능하다. 스마트 가전의 복합 기능들은 복잡해 보이지만 실제로는 저사양 생활가전에서도 제공하는 기본 기능들을 차례로 수행하도록 만든 것임을 알 수 있다. 기본 기능은 그 종류가 많지 않으며 이를 조합하여 순서대로 수행 할 수 있도록 제어 프로그램을 확장한다면 저사양 생활가전도 복합 기능을 보유할 수 있게 된다. 단지 이를 위해 버튼, 표시장치 등의 하드웨어가 추가되어야 하기 때문에 지금까지 복합기능이 제공되지 못했던 것이다. 기본 기능에 명령 코드를 부여한 마이크로 명령을 나열하면 쉽게 복합 기능을 구현하는 매크로를 만들 수 있으며 스마트 장치의 앱으로 이를 수행하면 추가적인 하드웨어가 필요 없게 된다. 생활가전은 생성된 매크로의 마이크로명령을 순차적으로 실행하기만 하면 된다. 이와 같이 저사양 생활가전을 스마트 장치에 접속하면 에볼루션 키트를 장착한 것처럼 스마트 가전으로 업그레이드되는 효과를 얻을 수 있다.

An Efficient Software Defined Data Transmission Scheme based on Mobile Edge Computing for the Massive IoT Environment

  • This paper presents a novel and efficient data transmission scheme based on mobile edge computing for the massive IoT environments which should support various type of services and devices. Based on an accurate and precise synchronization process, it maximizes data transmission throughput, and consistently maintains a flow's latency. To this end, the proposed efficient software defined data transmission scheme (ESD-DTS) configures and utilizes synchronization zones in accordance with the 4 usage cases, which are end node-to-end node (EN-EN), end node-to-cloud network (EN-CN), end node-to-Internet node (EN-IN), and edge node-to-core node (EdN-CN); and it transmit the data by the required service attributes, which are divided into 3 groups (low-end group, medium-end group, and high-end group). In addition, the ESD-DTS provides a specific data transmission method, which is operated by a buffer threshold value, for the low-end group, and it effectively accommodates massive IT devices. By doing this, the proposed scheme not only supports a high, medium, and low quality of service, but also is complied with various 5G usage scenarios. The essential difference between the previous and the proposed scheme is that the existing schemes are used to handle each packet only to provide high quality and bandwidth, whereas the proposed scheme introduces synchronization zones for various type of services to manage the efficiency of each service flow. Performance evaluations show that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous schemes in terms of throughput, control message overhead, and latency. Therefore, the proposed ESD-DTS is very suitable for upcoming 5G networks in a variety of massive IoT environments with supporting mobile edge computing (MEC).

  • In a modern control field, a control engineer who has theoretical backgrounds with some practical knowledge is demanded. That is to say, an engineer who can understand and operate the various parts such as modeling, simulation, system analysis, signal processing, statistics, and hardware is required. In order to prove the theoretical backgrounds and operate various hardwares, a lot of experimental devices for students are designed in universities. Since the conventional experimental devices are manufactured abroad and the prices of the devices are too high, it is difficult to have. If a low cost experimental device can be developed, it will be very useful for a control engineering education. In Ibis paper, an experimental rig which has two control inputs and three sensor outputs to control the end point of a flexible beam is designed and manufactured. This rig can be used for a control field education.

체내 이식 신경 신호 기록 장치를 위한 저전압 저전력 아날로그 Front-End 집적회로 (A Low-Voltage Low-Power Analog Front-End IC for Neural Recording Implant Devices)

  • 본 논문에서는 체내 이식용 신경 신호 기록 장치를 위한 저전압 저전력 아날로그 front-end 집적회로를 설계하였다. 제안된 집적 회로는 1 Hz에서 5 kHz 주파수 대역에 존재하는 신경 신호를 처리하기 위해 저잡음 neural 증폭기와 대역폭 조절이 가능한 능동 bandpass 필터로 구성되어 있다. Neural 증폭기는 우수한 잡음 특성을 위해 source-degenerated folded-cascode 연산증폭기를 기반으로 하여 설계하였고, 능동 필터의 경우 저전력의 current-mirror 연산증폭기를 이용하여 설계하였다. 능동 필터의 high-pass cutoff 주파수는 1 Hz에서 300 Hz까지 제어가 가능하며, low-pass cutoff 주파수는 300 Hz에서 8 kHz까지 제어가 가능하다. 전체 아날로그 front-end 회로는 53.1 dB의 전압 이득 성능과 1 Hz에서 10 kHz 대역에 대해서 $4.68{\mu}Vrms$의 입력 잡음 성능과 3.67의 noise efficiency factor 성능을 보인다. $18-{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정을 이용하여 설계를 하였고 1-V 전원에서 $3.2{\mu}W$의 전력 소모 성능을 갖는다. 칩 레이아웃 면적은 $0.19 mm^2$ 이다.

  • Paper-based analytical devices (${\mu}PAD$) are highly advantageous for portable diagnostic systems owing to their low costs and ease of use. ${\mu}PADs$ are considered as the best candidates for realizing the World Health Organization (WHO) ASSURED criteria: affordable, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, rapid and robust, equipment-free, and deliverable to end users. However, they have several limitations such as low sensitivity and accuracy. This article reports a mini review for a micro-fluidic paper-based analytical devices (${\mu}PAD$), especially for addressing low sensitivity and accuracy issues.

Zone based Ad Hoc Network Construction Scheme for Local IoT Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a zone based ad hoc network construction scheme which support ad hoc path between nodes in local IoT networks consisting of IoT devices with the constrained feature, such as low power, the limited transmission rate and low computing capacity. Recently, the various routing protocols have been studied to support ad hoc networking of local IoT environments. This is, because basis RPL protocol is deigned to be used for the connecting service with Internet through gateway, ad hoc path between nodes in local IoT networks is not supported in basis RPL protocol. Thus, in this paper, the proposed routing scheme provides both ad hoc path and Infra path through gateway, supporting basis RPL protocol simultaneously. Through simulation, we show that the proposed routing scheme with zone based path selection scheme improves the performance of the success rate of end-to-end data transmission and the end-to-end delay, compared to basis RPL protocol.
