인슐린 비의존형 당뇨병 환자에서 어유 투여량이 혈청 지질에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Different Doses of Fish Oil on Serum Lipids in Patients with Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus)

  • This study was designed to determine changes of serum glucose and lipid levels in noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus patients during different doses of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-rich fish oil supplementation. All patients had a fasting blood glucose of less than 180mg/dl, a LDL-cholesterol of less than 160mg/dl, and a triglyceride of more than 160mg/dl. None had clinical evidence of renal, hepatic or coronary vascular disease. Sixteen patients served as control. Seven patients ingested 2.00g of fish oil(low dose group), consisting of 0.30g eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) and 0.55g DHA. The group of modest dose(n=9) was provided 3.91g of fish oil, consisting 0.59g EPA and 1.08g DHA. After 4 weeks, serum triglyceride concentration showed a mild but nonsignificant elevation in control group, a 9% decrease(194 to 177mg/dl) in the group of low dose of fish oil and a 28% decrease(206 to 161mg/dl) in the group of modest dose. The level of high density lipoprotein(HDL), HDL2, HDL3 and total cholesterol in all groups were not changed. There was a mild increase in malondialdehyde and low density lipoprotein(LDL)-cholesterol concentration and decrease in $\alpha$-tocopherol concentration. However, these changes were not significant.

초기 성인기 여성의 체중에 따른 주관적 체격인식과 생리지표 비교 (Comparison Study of Body Weight Perception and Physiological Index by Body Mass Index Level in Young Adult Women)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics of body weight perception and physiological index in young adult women. Methods: Subjects were 283 Korea women. Data was from the 2005 Korean National Health and Survey. Three groups-low normal and overweight-were based on Body mass index(BMI). General characteristics, health status perception, weight control behavior and physiological index such as BMI, total cholesterol, high-density cholesterol (HDL), low-density cholesterol (LDL), triglyceride, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and waist circumference were compared. Data were analyzed by t-test, $x^2$-test and ANOVA using SPSS program. Results: Of the normal weight group, 28.7% of subjects perceived themselves as overweight. Of the low weight group, 30.3% regarded their weight as normal weight. Of the overweight subjects, weight control was attempted by exercise (50.1%) and food reduction (77.1%). Significant group-related differences were evident in HDL, LDL, triglyceride, systolic blood pressure and waist circumference among three groups. Conclusions: Perception and attitude regarding body weight can be inaccurate. A weight control program should consider the relation of physiological index and weight based on BMI.

한국 중년의 고밀도지단백(HDL) 콜레스테롤과 관련요인 (The High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and related factors in Korean middle-aged)

  • 이 연구는 40-59세의 중년들이 갖고 있는 여러 가지 건강행태 중에서 고밀도지단백(HDL) 콜레스테롤에 영향을 명확히 미치는 건강행태를 파악함으로써 한국 중년의 건강증진에 도움이 되는 기초자료를 제공되고자 한다. 국민건강영양조사의 제4기 3차년도(2009), 제5기의 1차년도(2010), 2차년도(2011), 3차년도(2012), 제6기의 1차년도(2013) 등 총 5개년의 원시데이터를 합하여 사용하여 7,406명을 최종분석 대상자로 선정하였다. 고밀도지단백 콜레스테롤을 40mg/dl 미만과 40mg/dl 이상으로 두 집단으로 구분했다. 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석을 시행한 결과, 여자보다 남자일 경우 OR=3.916배, 비만 유병이 저체중에서 정상일 경우 OR=3.439배, 비만일 경우 OR=7.336배, 음주자일 때 OR=1.629배, 흡연자일 때 OR=1.498배, 중등도 신체활동 미실천일 시 OR=1.426배, 걷기 미실천일 시 OR=1.264배, 탄수화물을 과소 섭취할 때보다 적정 섭취할 때 OR=1.510배, 과다 섭취할 때 OR=1.787배 고밀도지단백(HDL) 콜레스테롤이 40mg/dl 이상에서 40mg/dl 미만으로 될 확률이 증가하였다. 한국 중년의 고밀도지단백(HDL) 콜레스테롤 수치를 높여 적절한 건강을 유지하기 위해서는 유산소 운동, 금연, 절절한 음주, 비만 해소, 건강한 식습관과 건강한 식품 선택으로 인한 외식이 이루어져야 한다. 이를 위해서는 지역사회 내에서 지속적인 홍보와 교육이 필요하며, 건강행태를 생활 속에서 실천할 수 있도록 하는 사회적 환경이 구축되어야 할 것이다.

양파 농축액이 고지혈증 성인 남자의 체성분, 혈장 전해질 및 지질 성분에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Concentrated Onion Juice in a Body Composition, Serum Electrolytes and Lipids Levels on Hyperlipidemia)

  • It is known as that onion is antioxidation effect, antibiotic effect, blood pressure decreasing effect and reducing serum cholesterol levels. This research about effect that onion concentrate gets blood cholesterol levels and body composition. Subject was 17 adult men of hyperlipidemia. Age distribution of investigation subjects were average 49.4 years old by 40~56 years old, and average height and weight were 167.6cm and 75.5kg each, BMI was 26.9kg/$m^2$, and BMR was 1,460.6$\pm$87.5㎉, and AMC was 25.0$\pm$1.05cm, and BCM was 41.0$\pm$2.79cm. In the meantime, the body muscle was 53.7$\pm$3.7kg, and fat mass was 18.7$\pm$3.8kg, and intracellular fluid was 26.6$\pm$1.8kg, and extracellular fluid was 12.8$\pm$0.9kg. The % body fat was 24.6$\pm$3.8%, and fat distribution was 0.9$\pm$0.0%, and the obesity degree was 125.4$\pm$8.2%. Vegetables, seaweeds, fruits and juices increased by change of dietary life and greasy foods, instants, breads, rices etc. decreased or there was no change, fast foods and eggs were no change. Also, subject previewed that guidance about stress, smoking, drinking and beverage intake need. If compared the nutrient intake amount with before onion concentrate allowance, it was similar level almost without significant. Energy, calcium and riboflavin are lower than the RDA for koreans. After 3 months, the levels of plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides had decreased significantly : 15.0%, 31.2% respectively. And the HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels also showed a marked reduction of 6.8%, 8.7% respectively. Plasma lipid level change by onion concentrate supplement would can know that case of triglyceride more greatly than plasma cholesterol. The pH and Na+ level of plasma were low significant since 8 weeks after, and $K^{+}$ level increase significant. While $Ca^{++}$ level was low significant after 1 month, there was no change since 2 months after, but nC $a^{++}$ level was low significantly. Plasma $Mg^{++}$ level was no change and nM $g^{++}$ level was low significant after intake.e.e.e.e.e.

  • For a probiotic yoghurt it is desirable to utilize lactic acid bacteria with a high survival rate and beneficial function to human beings. We have examined a variety of lactic acid bacteria to assess the acid and bile tolerance and antibiotic resistance. In addition, an in vitro culture experiment was performed to evaluate their ability to reduce cholesterol levels in the growth medium. Thirteen strains were selected from in vitro cholesterol assays and fed to Sprague-Dawley rats with a high-cholesterol diet. Among the 13 strains tested, 8 strains were shown to reduce serum cholesterol levels significantly after 24 days of administration in vivo. Rats were fed lyophilized yoghurt powder fermented with a combination of 3 selected strains: Bifidobacterium infantis AM-220, Lactobacillus AM-245, and Styeptococcus MA-1. The levels of total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein were significantly lower (p$\leq$0.05) in rats fed the yoghurt powder compared with control group. These studies suggest that yoghurt fermented with appropriately selected lactic acid bacteria may have a anticholesterolemic effect.

  • To evaluate the nutritional values of Spirulina platensis as the protein supplement for laying heo diet, two experimental diets (Control, Spirulina platensis 2%) were prepared. Total 120, 40-wk old ISA Brown layer hens were randomly employed with 15 hens per replicate and 4 replicates per treatment. Hen-day egg production, egg weight, feed intake, intake /egg weight, egg shell thickness, yolk color score and yolk cholesterol content were examined during 6 weeks of experimental period. Hen-day egg production and feed conversion ratio (intake /egg weight) were significantly (P<0.01) improved by the 2% Spirulina plalensis supplementation. However, there were no differences in egg weight and feed intake between hens fed two experimental diets. Egg from hens fed Spirulina platensis 2% diet have more yellowish yolk color than the control egg although there was no difference in egg shell thickness.   • Intake of soy protein the fisk factors associated with cardiovascular disease in postmenopausal women. This study was designed to effects of isoflavone supplementation on serum lipids in 16 hyperlipidemic postmenopausal women . For this purpose, an intervention study was conducted for 12 weeks. Subjects were healthy, free-living women consuming habitual diets with 0.3g/d of isoflavone. Food and nutrient intake was obtained by 24-hr recall method and anthropometric measurement were made. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total serum cholesterol. HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were determined before and after the isoflavone supplementation. The results were summarized as follows. The average age, hight, weight and BMI of the subject were 65.3 years, 151.4 cm, 62.2 kg and 27.1, respectively. The systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were not reduced significantly with isoflavone supplementation. Total cholesterol (p<0.001), HDL-C(p<0.05), and LDL-C(p<0.01) were significantly increased after isoflavone concentration. In conclusion, isoflavone supplementation was not effective to modify risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

작약의 메탄올 추출물로부터 항고지혈 활성성분의 분리 (Isolation of Hyperlipidemic Substances from Methanol Extract of Paeoniae Radix)

  • We previously showed that a methanol extract of Paeoniae radix decreased total cholesterol level in rats with hyperlipidemia. In order to isolate the active ingredient(s), the methanol extract of Paeoniae radix was fractionated with chloroform/methanol(4:1) solution and isolate into soluble part and insoluble part of the the methanol extract. Above two parts were tested on the experimentally induced hypercholesterolemia in rats for the lowering effect of serum lipoprotein contents. Hyperlipidemia was induced on male Wistar rats by feeding high choleserol diet for 7 days. After oral administration of above samples for 4 weeks, serum lipid profile was verified on these rats by measuring total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol. The chloroform/methanol(4:1) soluble part and insolule part showed lowering activity of total cholesterol level and triglyceride level at 4 week point significantly(p<0.01 and p<0.05) compare with the control group and the soluble part was more effective.

심혈관질환 예측을 위한 저밀도 대 고밀도 지단백 콜레스테롤 비(LDL : HDL-cholesterol ratio)의 적정기준에 관한 연구 (Assessment of the Optimum LDL : HDL-cholesterol(LDL : HDL-C) Ratio for Predicting CHD)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to determine the optimum low-density lipoprotein : high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL : HDL-C) ratio for predicting coronary heart disease(CHD) in Korean people. Methods: It was analyzed this data of 5,431 adults who had undergone health examinations in a hospital in Gyeonggi-do between January 2006 and December 2007. The covariation of the coronary risk factors such as age, HbA1C, systolic blood pressure(SBP), and waist-to-stature ratio(WSR) were analyzed by using logistic regression analysis. Results: The LDL : HDL-C ratio in the male and female groups was mostly distributed between 1.5 and 4.0. The LDL : HDL-C ratio was the most significant cholesterol-related parameter influencing CHD (male: B = .306, p = .054, female : B = .940, p = .010), followed by LDL-C and total cholesterol. It was observed a sharp increase in the odds ratios for LDL : HDL-C ratios of 2.25 - 2.50(male) and 2.00 - 2.25(female). A significant difference was observed in both male(2.25 : $x^2$ = 2.494, p = .072) and female(2.00 : $x^2$ = 413.742, p = .000) groups. Conclusion: The risk level of CHD was set to 2.25 for males and 2.00 for females. Therefore, the optimum LDL : HDL-C ratio for Koreans should be far lower than that for the people in western countries.

Cholesterol Removal and Flavor Development in Cheddar Cheese

  • This study was carried out to find a cholesterol removal rate, flavor development and bitter amino acid productions in Cheddar cheese treated with $\beta$-cyclodextrin (CD): 1) Control (no homogenization, no $\beta$-CD), and 2) Milk treatment (1000 psi milk homogenization, 1% $\beta$-CD). The cholesterol removal of the cheese was 79.3%. The production of short-chain free fatty acids (FFA) increased with a ripening time in both control and milk treated cheese. The releasing quantity of short-chain FFA was higher in milk treated cheese than control at 5 and 7 mo ripening. Not much difference was found in neutral volatile compound production between samples. In bitter-tasted amino acids, milk treatment group produced much higher than control. In sensory analysis, texture score of control Cheddar cheese significantly increased with ripening time, however, that in cholesterol-reduced cheese decreased dramatically. Our results indicated that the cheese made by $\beta$-CD treated milk with low pressure homogenization showed an effective cholesterol reduction and a rapid cheese ripening, while no capture of flavor compounds by $\beta$-CD.
