Design of Square Patch Reflectarray Antenna with U-type Slot (U자형 슬롯을 갖는 정사각형 패치 리플렉트어레이 안테나의 설계)

  • The microstrip reflectarray antenna is rapidly becoming an attractive alternative solution to the traditional parabolic reflector antenna. However, the bandwidth of the microstrip reflectarray using the single layer structure is very narrow. To obtain wide bandwidth characteristic, the microstrip reflectarray using the multi-layer structure has been used, but it has some disadvantages such as high cost and complicated design. In this paper, to obtain low cost and wide bandwidth, the microstrip reflectarray antenna composed of square patch with two U-slots using the single-layer structure is proposed. The proposed antenna demonstrate radiation efficiency closed to 55.5 % and 1 dB gain bandwidth over 14 % at 12.5 GHz.

  • This paper proposes a simulation design for feeding probe with the CMM(Cylindrical Magneto Material) structure for broad bandwidth of a dipole type antenna. In order to ensure low frequency bandwidth, the magnetic material with high relative permeability was considered in design calculation. It was confirmed that the broad bandwidth was independent on the relative permeability value and depended on the control of distance($r_m$) between magnetic material and feeding probe, and of magnetic material thickness($t_m$). Furthermore, an antenna size with the CMM was miniaturized about 18 % comparison with its size without the CMM.

  • This paper presents a theoretical study of transmission performance for an optical duobinary transmitter employed a Mach-Zehnder modulator and a electrical low pass filter at 40Gbps optical communication links. It depends on the bandwidth of the low pass filter in the transmitter, the optical filter and the filter in the receiver. Also, each filter affected to the various parts of the optical power spectrum. By optimizing the bandwidth of each filter, we could control the side robes and the ripples and improve the dispersion tolerance of the transmission system.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is software that learns large amounts of data and provides the desired results for certain patterns. In other words, learning a large amount of data is very important, and the role of memory in terms of computing systems is important. Massive data means wider bandwidth, and the design of the memory system that can provide it becomes even more important. Providing wide bandwidth in AI systems is also related to power consumption. AlphaGo, for example, consumes 170 kW of power using 1202 CPUs and 176 GPUs. Since more than 50% of the consumption of memory is usually used by system chips, a lot of investment is being made in memory technology for AI chips. MRAM, PRAM, ReRAM and Hybrid RAM are mainly studied. This study presents various memory technologies that are being studied in artificial intelligence chip design. Especially, MRAM and PRAM are commerciallized for the next generation memory. They have two significant advantages that are ultra low power consumption and nearly zero leakage power. This paper describes a comparative analysis of the four representative new memory technologies.

PCB-Embedded Antenna for 80 GHz Chip-to-Chip Communication

  • We propose a printed circuit board (PCB)-embedded antenna for millimeter-wave chip-to-chip communication. The antenna is 0.18 mm in height which is 1/20 wavelength at 80 GHz. In order to realize such a low profile, a zeroth-order resonator antenna with a periodic array of four unit cells is employed, and its geometry is optimized to cover an 8-GHz bandwidth from 76 to 84 GHz. With this;the antenna is capable of radiating in a direction parallel to the board length despite the short distance between the ground and the radiator. Simulation and measurement results show that the optimized design has low reflection coefficients and consistent radiation patterns throughout the target bandwidth.

A Study on Efficient Use of Dual Data Memory Banks in Flight Control Computers

  • Over the past several decades, embedded system and flight control computer technologies have been evolved to meet the diverse needs of the mobile device market. Current embedded systems are at the heart of technologies that can take advantage of small-sized specialized hardware while still providing high-efficiency performance at low cost. One of these key technologies is multiple memory banks. For example, a dual memory bank can provide two times more memory bandwidth in the same memory space. This benefit take lower cost to provide the same bandwidth. However, there is still few software technologies to support the efficient use of multiple memory banks. In this study, we present a technique to efficiently exploit multiple memory banks by software support. Specifically, our technique use an interference graph to optimally allocate data to different memory banks by an optimizing compiler. As a result, the execution time can be improved upto 7% with the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents contour simplification method and a regional hierarchical segmentation algorithm based on PSNR for the transmission of image in mobile communication, of which available bandwidth is very limited. It first takes into account the global information and produces a coarse segmentation, that is, with a small number of regions. Then, each segmented region has different quality. Thus, the region with low quality is selected by PSNR and improved by introducing regions corresponding to more local information. It is able to improve the subjective quality of image and reduce contour information. In addition, contour simplification method is proposed for the efficient lossless chain coding. The proposed method can be applied to the applications such as mobile communications and videotelephone through PSTN, of which the available transmission bandwidth is very limited.

  • This paper presents a new transient overvoltage blocking device (TOBD) for info-communication facilities with low power and high frequency bandwidth. Conventional protection devices have some problems such as low frequency bandwidth, low energy capacity and high remnant voltage. In order to improve these limitations, thehybrid type TOBD, which consists of a gas tube, avalanche diodes and junction typefield effect transistors (JFETs), was designed and fabricated. The TOBD differs from the conventional protection devices in configuration, and JFETs were used as an active non-linear element and a high speed switching diode with low capacitance limits high current. Therefore the avalanche dilde with low energy capacity are protected fromthe high current, and the TOBD has a very small input capacitance. From the performance test using combination surge generator, which can produce $1.2/50\mus\;4.2kV_{max}\; 8/20\mus\; 2.1kA_{max}$, it is confirmed that proposed TOBD has an excellent protection performance in tight clamping voltage and limiting current characteristics.

Reliable Distributed Lookup Service Scheme for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

  • Mobile Ad hoc networking is an emerging technology and in these days many applications are being developed to run on these networks. In these networks lookup services are very important because all nodes do not have same resources in term of memory and computing power. Nodes need to use different services offered by different servers. Reliable and efficient scheme should be available for lookup services due to limited bandwidth and low computing power of devices in mobile ad hoc networks. Due to mobility and rapid change in network topology, lookup mechanism used in wired network is not appropriate. Service discovery mechanism can be divided into two main categories Centralized and Distributed. Centralized mechanism is not reliable as there is no central node in these networks. Secondly centralized mechanism leads toward single point failure. We can handle the service discovery mechanism by distributing server's information to each node. But this approach is also not appropriate due to limited bandwidth and rapid change in network. In this paper, we present reliable lookup service scheme which is based on distributed mechanism. We are not using replication approach as well due to low bandwidth of wireless networks. In this scheme service discovery mechanism will be handled through different lookup servers. Reliability is the key feature of our proposed scheme.

  • A 12GHz low-noise amplifier, a single gate GaAs MESFET mixer, and a low-pass filter have been fabricated for DBS receiver applications by using MIC technology. Each subsystem contains DC block with symmetric line and ship capacitor, respectively. The frequency converter with chip capacitor exhibits a 20-23 dB conversin gain with a RF bandwidth of 11.581-11.981 GHz and an IF bandwidth of 581-981MHz. Rf bandwidth of 12.1GHz and an IF banewidth of 1GHz.
