실내배양에서 해산 녹조 납작파래 (Enteromorpha compressa)의 생장에 미치는 광도와 염분 및 온도와 염분의 복합효과 (Combined Effects of Irradiance-Salinity and Temperature-Salinity on the Growth of Enteromorpha compressa (Chlorophyta) in Laboratory Culture)

  • The effects of environmental factors on the growth of Enteromorpha compressa germlings from Daeyulri (34$^{\circ}$36'N; 127$^{\circ}$47'E), the southern cost of Korea were examined in laboratory culture through combinations of irradiance and salinity and temperature and salinity. They showed a maximum growth rate at 125 $\mu$E.m-2.s-1 and 32$\textperthousand$ of irradiance and salinity combination, and at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 32% of temperature and salinity combination. Optimal parameters for the growth of germlings were 15$^{\circ}C$, 125 $\mu$E.m-2s-1 and 32$\textperthousand$. The germlings of E. compressa were survived in a wide range of irradiance, temperature and salinity levels, even though they had relatively low irradiance optimum. In the field E. compressa occurred commonly during autumn and spring seasons and disappeared in summer, except for particular habitats. This may be caused by the salinity and water temperature of this area rarely drop below 26$\textperthousand$ and 8$^{\circ}C$ during winter. A broad tolerance to environmental and rapid growth of germlings made them a wide geographical distribution over the world and a survival in both the upper and lower intertidal zones.

동해 울산만에서 계절적 강우변화와 담수기원 오염원이 염분구배 및 유역별 대장균 분포에 미치는 영향 (Distributional characteristics of Escherichia coli based on seasonal rainfall variations and extension of freshwater pollutant sources by salinity gradients at Ulsan Bay of Korea facing East Sea)

  • 울산만에서 강우에 의한 염분구배 및 환경요인이 분변계 대장균의 계절적, 지역적 분포에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해, 2013년 2월부터 2015년 11월까지 계절 조사를 총 12회 수행하였다. 아울러 울산만 내측과 외측의 염분구배 및 지리학적 특성을 기반으로 13개 정점을 3개의 구역(I, II, III)으로 나누어 평가하였다. 조사기간 중 수온과 염분은 각각 $8.5-26.1^{\circ}C$와 13.5-34.4 psu의 범위, 엽록소-a는 $0.4-74.0{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$, 투명도는 0.5-10.0 m로 변화하였다. 특히 염분농도는 2014년 춘계, 하계, 추계 울산만 내측의 구역 I에서 낮은 농도로 관찰되었고, 만 외측의 구역 III으로 갈수록 증가하였다 (one-way ANOVA, p < 0.05). 아울러, 해역의 염분구배는 대장균의 분포에도 영향을 미쳤고, 특히 태화강의 영향을 강하게 받는 구역 I에서 가장 높게 관찰되었고, 다음으로 구역 II, 구역 III순으로 나타났다. 대장균 개체수는 투명도(r = -0.36; p < 0.05)와 더불어 염분과 음의 상관성(r = -0.53; p < 0.01)이 확인되었고, 이는 육상기원의 대장균이 해역으로 유입될 경우 염분이 낮은 환경에서 보다 유리하게 증식한다는 것을 의미한다. 결과적으로 울산만 내만에서는 잦은 집중강우(< 50 mm)로 인한 육상기원 오염원이 하천 및 태화강으로 유입되어 울산만 최내측인 구역 I에서 현저하게 영향을 미쳤고, 염분구배에 따라서 대장균 개체수도 희석되어 만 외측으로 향할수록 낮게 나타나는 것을 파악하였다.

A numerical study on the dispersion of the Yangtze River water in the Yellow and East China Seas

  • A three-dimensional numerical model using POM (the Princeton Ocean Model) is established in order to understand the dispersion processes of the Yangtze River water in the Yellow and East China Seas. The circulation experiments for the seas are conducted first, and then on the bases of the results the dispersion experiments for the river water are executed. For the experiments, we focus on the tide effects and wind effects on the processes. Four cases of systematic experiments are conducted. They comprise the followings: a reference case with no tide and no wind, of tide only, of wind only, and of both tide and wind. Throughout this study, monthly mean values are used for the Kuroshio Current input in the southern boundary of the model domain, for the transport through the Korea Strait, for the river discharge, for the sea surface wind, and for the heat exchange rate across the air-sea interface. From the experiments, we obtained the following results. The circulation of the seas in winter is dependent on the very strong monsoon wind as several previous studies reported. The wintertime dispersion of the Yangtze River water follows the circulation pattern flowing southward along the east coast of China due to the strong monsoon wind. Some observed salinity distributions support these calculation results. In summertime, generally, low-salinity water from the river tends to spread southward and eastward as a result of energetic vertical mixing processes due to the strong tidal current, and to spread more eastward due to the southerly wind. The tide effect for the circulation and dispersion of the river water near the river mouth is a dominant factor, but the southerly wind is still also a considerable factor. Due to both effects, two major flow directions appear near the river mouth. One of them is a northern branch flow in the northeast area of the river mouth moving eastward mainly due to the weakened southerly wind. The other is a southern branch flow directed toward the southeastern area off the river mouth mostly caused by tide and wind effects. In this case, however, the tide effect is more dominant than the wind effect. The distribution of the low salinity water follows the circulation pattern fairly well.

  • In order to control of water quality in Jeju harbor, variation of physical oceanographic environments was estimated using material cycle model. It is composed of the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model for the simulation at water flow and material cycle model for the simulation of water quality. The three dimensional hydrodynamic model simulation of the circulation and mixing in Jeju Harbor has been conducted forced by Sanzi River Discharge, Tidal elevation, wind and Solar heat in case of August and November, 2000 and February and May, 2001, respectively. The results of numerical model and observation show that the model can produce realistic results of current in the harbor. The monthly variation of velocity pattern are not so much changed are found In Jeju Harbor. The residual current was forced by temperature, salinity, density, wind and tidal current. The residual current of August, 2000 are the strongest among four month. It can be explained that the density effect can be important role in residual current at Jeju Harbor. As the results of salinity distribution simulation, very low concentration of all levels were simulated in August, 2000. The flowrate of Sanzi river was investigated 77,760 ㎥ /d in August, 2000. Therefore, pollutant loadings from Sanzi river should be considered for water quality management in Jeiu harbor.

말백합의 연령별 여과율에 미치는 수온과 염분의 영향 (The Influence of Water Temperature and Salinity on Filtration Rates of the Hard Clam, Meretrix petechialis)

  • 본 연구는 말백합, Meretrix petechialis의 기초 생리, 생태학적 정보를 파악하기 위한 일환으로 수온 및 염분의 변화가 이들의 여과율에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 파악하고자 수행되었다. 말백합은 전라북도 김제시 거전리 갯벌에서 채집하였고, 먹이생물은 Phaeodactylum tricornutum(KMCC B-128)을 실내에서 단일종 배양하여 사용하였으며, 여과율 측정은 Coughlan(1969)의 간접측정법을 사용하였다. 먹이생물의 농도는 혈구계산판을 이용하여 광학현미경하에서 직접 계수하였다. 전체적인 실험과정은 Shin and Lim(2003)과 동일하였다. 수온별 말백합의 여과율 변동의 경우 연령에 관계없이 $25-30^{\circ}C$에서 대체적으로 높은 여과율을 나타내었고, 전반적으로 $5^{\circ}C$에서 최소 여과율을 나타내는 경향이었다. 염분별 말백합의 여과율 변동의 경우 전반적으로 20-35 psu의 염분구간에서 비교적 높은 여과율을 나타내는 경향이었다. 연령별 여과율 변동의 경우 대체적으로 연령이 낮을수록 건중량당 여과율은 상대적으로 높은 경향이었다. $Q_{10}$ 값의 경우 전반적으로 낮은 수온 구간($5-15^{\circ}C$)에서 높은 값을 나타내는 경향이었다.

새만금 하구역의 이화학적 환경요인에 따른 수질 평가 (The Evaluation of Water Quality in Coastal Sea of Saemangeum by Chemical Environmental factors)

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate chemical water quality by hourly monitoring(25hr) of Saemangeum esturary. For this study, we selected 2 sites like a Mangyong Bridge(St. 6) and Dongjin Bridge(St. 7). Inflow of salt water was not detected during low tide(maximum 553, 508cm) of all stations, while the salinity rises were detected in spring tide(750cm). When 602m of maximum tide was reached, salinity concentration was increased at St. 7, while there was no change in St. 6. Therefore, We know that salinity variation is greatly influenced by tide height at survey site. Also, significant variance of salinity(p<0.05) was found between St. 6 and St. 7 because dike construction made the flood tide move into the Dongjin river. Total suspened solids(TSS) concentration was increased because of the river runoff at St. 6, and also the turbulance and resuspension according to salt intrusion at St. 7. During the high tide, the water discharge from the sea seemed to dilute the nutrient but to elevate TSS concentration in St. 7. Silicate and nitrate concentrations in the studied site were decreased by the mixing of sea water, whereas the evident trend of phosphate concentration was not found. This result can be explained by the phosphorus condition. Phosphorus exists inactive when it is affected by hydrated iron and adsorbed onto suspended matters. Compared to the environmental conditions of the St. 6 and St. 7, physical factors such as temperature, dissolved oxygen and TSS have statistically no significant difference(p<0.001), but nutrient concentrations were higher at St. 6 than St. 7. It could be suggested from these results that it is important to control the discharge of fresh water by sewage treatment plants located in St. 6 for water quality management.

제주도 사질 조간대 공극수중 영양염류의 시·공간적 변화 (Temporal and Spatial Variation of Nutrient Concentrations in Shallow Pore Water in Intertidal Sandflats of Jeju Island)

  • To examine temporal and spatial variation in salinity and nutrients in the shallow pore water of intertidal sandflats, we measured salinity and nutrient concentrations (dissolved inorganic nitrogen [DIN], phosphorus [DIP], and silicate [DSi]) in pore water of the intertidal zone along the coastline of Jeju Island at two and/or three month intervals from May 2009 to December 2010. Geochemical parameters (grain size, ignition loss [IL], chemical oxygen demand [COD], and acid volatile sulfur [AVS]) in sediment were also investigated. The surface sediments in intertidal sandflats of Jeju Island were mainly composed of sand, slightly gravelly sand and gravelly sand, with a range of mean grain size from 0.5 to 2.5 ${\O}$. Concentrations of IL and COD in sediment were higher along the eastern coast, as compared to the western coast, due to differences in biogenic sediment composition. Salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore water were markedly different across time and space during rainy seasons, whereas concentrations were temporally and spatially more stable during dry seasons. These results suggest that salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore water depend on the advective flow of fresh groundwater. We also observed an imbalance of the DIN/DIP ratio in pore water due to the influence of contaminated sources of DIN. In particular, nutrient concentrations during rainy and dry seasons were characterized by high DIN/DIP ratios (mean-127) and low DIN/DIP ratios (mean-10), respectively, relative to the Redfield ratio (16) in offshore seawater. Such an imbalance of DIN/DIP ratios in pore water can affect the coastal ecosystem and appears to cause outbreaks of benthic seaweed along the coastline of Jeju Island.

거친대추멍게(Ascidiella aspersa: Ascidiacea, Phlebobranchia, Ascidiidae)의 알 발육에 미치는 수온과 염도의 영향 (Effects of Temperature and Salinity on Egg Development of Ascidiella aspersa (Ascidiacea, Phlebobranchia, Ascidiidae))

  • 본 연구는 거친대추멍게(Ascidiella aspersa)의 알 발육과 유생 부착에 미치는 수온과 염도의 영향을 파악하고자 실시하였다. 거친대추멍게 알 발육과 유생 부착 실험은 12개의 수온 조건(6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, $28^{\circ}C$,과 2개의 염도 조건(30, 34 psu)에서 진행하였다. 거친대추멍게 알의 부화율과 발육률은 염도에 관계없이 수온이 높아짐에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 최적 수온 범위 이후 감소하는 경향을 보였으며 부화 및 발육을 위한 최적 수온은 $20{\sim}22^{\circ}C$의 범위를 보였다. 저온 발육임계수온은 30 psu와 34 psu에서 각각 $1.5^{\circ}C$$1.8^{\circ}C$로 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 부착률은 염도에 관계없이 $16{\sim}22^{\circ}C$의 최적 수온 범위를 보였으며 부착시간은 수온이 증가함에 따라 지속적으로 증가하였다. 결과적으로 거친대추멍게의 최적 발육 및 생존 수온은 염도 조건에 관계없이 $20{\sim}22^{\circ}C$ 범위를 보였다. 본 연구결과는 국내 양식장에서의 거친대추멍게에 의한 경제적 피해가 증가하고 있는 시점에서 거친대추멍게의 분포 및 발생시기를 예측하고 확산 방지 및 방제 방안을 구축하는 데 활용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

동해 재분석 자료에 나타난 북한한류의 계절 및 경년변동성 (Seasonal and Interannual Variability of the North Korean Cold Current in the East Sea Reanalysis Data)

  • Analyzing the results of East Sea Regional Ocean Model using a 3-dimensional variational data assimilation scheme, we investigated spatial and temporal variability of the North Korean Cold Current (NKCC) in the East Sea. The climatological monthly mean transport of the NKCC clearly shows seasonal variation of the NKCC within the range of about 0.35 Sv ($=0^6m^3/s$), which increases from its minimum (about 0.45 Sv) through December-January to March, decreases during March and May, and then increases again to the maximum (about 0.8 Sv) in August-September. The volume transport of the NKCC shows interannual variation of the NKCC with the range of about 1.0 Sv that is larger than seasonal variation. The southward current of the NKCC appears often not only in summer but in winter as well. The width of the NKCC is about 35 km near the Korean coast and its core is located under the East Korea Warm Current. The North Korean Cold Water (NKCW), characterized by low salinity and low temperature, is located both under the Tsushima Warm Water and in the western side of the maximum southward current of the NKCC that means the NKCC advects the NKCW southward along the Korean coast. It is revealed that the intermediate low salinity water, formed off the Vladivostok in winter, flows southward to the south of $37^{\circ}N$ through $2{\sim}3$ paths; one path along the Korean coast, another one along $132^{\circ}E$, and the middle path along $130^{\circ}E$. The path of the intermediate low salinity varies with years. The reanalysis fields suggest that the NKCW is advected through the paths along the Korean coast and along $130^{\circ}E$.

역삼투 담수화 시설의 생산단가 절감을 위한 저 염도 지하 기수 개발 (Development of minimum-salinity feedwater for reduction of unit production cost of reverse-osmosis desalination plants)

  • 역삼투 해수 담수화 공법의 주요 단점으로 여겨지고 있는 에너지 소비량을 줄이기 위한 방편으로 해안선을 통하여 바다로 유출되는 담수 지하수를 활용하여 낮은 염도의 원수를 확보하는 방안을 제시하였다. 저 염도 지하 염수는 담수화 비용 뿐 아니라 표류 해수 취수의 알려진 단점을 극복하는 데도 유리하다. 지하 염수의 염도는 해안선을 통하여 바다로 유출되는 담수 지하수량의 영향을 크게 받는다. 본 연구에서는 담수화 시설에 필요한 수량을 최저 염도로 충족시킬 수 있는 지하 염수 관정의 위치 및 양수량 분포를 산정할 수 있는 최적 전산설계모델을 개발하였다. 해안 지역에서 지하 염수를 개발하면 대수층으로 해수가 추가 침투하여 다른 사용자의 지하수 관정을 오염시킬 수 있다. 본 모델은 지하 염수 관정의 최적 설계 시에 기존 지하수 관정을 해수 침투로부터 보호할 수 있도록 구성되었다.
