  • Air pollution monitoring has attracted a lot of interests because it affects directly to the human life quality. The most of the current air pollution monitoring stations use the expensive and bulky instruments and are only installed in the specific area. Therefore, it is difficult to install them to as many places as people need. In this work, we constructed a low price and small size Radio Frequency(RF) sensor system to solve this problem. This system also had the measurement range similar to the ones used in the air pollution forecast systems. This system had the sensor unit to measure the air quality, the central processing unit for air quality data acquisition, the power unit to supply the power to every units, and the RF unit for the wireless transmission and reception of the data. This system was easy to install in the field. We also added a GPS unit to track the position of the RF-sensor in real time by wireless communication. For the various measurements of the air pollution, we used CO, $O_3$, $NO_2$ sensors as gas sensors and also installed a dust sensor.

  • The EAST ICRF system operating space has been extended in power and phase control with a low-level RF system for the new double-strap antenna. Then the multi-step power and periodic phase scanning experiment were conducted in L-mode plasma, respectively. In the power scanning experiment, the stored energy, radiation power, plasma impedance and the antenna's temperature all have positive responses during the short ramp-ups of PL;ICRF. The core ion temperature increased from 1 keV to 1.5 keV and the core heating area expanded from |Z| ≤ 5 cm to |Z| ≤ 10 cm during the injection of ICRF waves. In the phasing scanning experiment, in addition to the same conclusions as the previous relatively phasing scanning experiment, the superposition effect of the fluctuation of stored energy, radiation power and neutron yield caused by phasing change with dual antenna, resulting in the amplitude and phase shift, was also observed. The active control of RF output facilitates the precise control of plasma profiles and greatly benefits future experimental exploration.

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna is proposed for the RF power harvester system as well as RFID tag. The proposed antenna operates as the passive and active RFID tag antenna in the UHF and microwave band, respectively. In addition, to charge the battery of an active RFID tag in the microwave band, it harvest the RF signal for tagging from the passive RFID tag antenna in the UHF band. The proposed antenna operates in the UHF band (917~923.5 MHz) and microwave band (2.4~2.45 GHz). In order to obtain the dual-band operation, the dipole structure and meander parasitic elements are proposed as the ${\lambda}/2$ and $1{\lambda}$ dipole antenna, respectively. The radiating dipole structure in the microwave band acts as the coupled feed for the meander parasitic elements in the UHF band. The impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 2) of the proposed antenna covers 917~923.5 MHz (UHF band) and 2.4~2.45 GHz (Microwave band). Measured total efficiencies are over 45 % in the UHF band and over 70 % in the microwave band. Peak gains are over 0.18 dBi and 2.8 dBi in the UHF and microwave band with an omni-directional radiation pattern, respectively.

  • These days, research has been made for a variety of internet of things (IoT) technologies over industrial fields. The current research trend includes the effective adoption of the IoT technologies. But, most IoT researches assume a relatively complicated structure, which consists of sensor devices, gateway, network server, and application server. Of course, the structure has distinct merits in the aspects of flexibility and expandability. However, the complicated structure causes the system implementation overhead including high-cost implementation, and hinders the practical usage of IoT in the industry areas, which require a small-size network. In this paper, we propose a novel IoT system architecture, which guarantees the small-size network and the low-cost implementation. Also, we implement the infrastructure, which includes the RF433-based sensor network, the ARDUINO-YUN based gateway, and the application server using Apache/PHP/MySQL (APM) package. Finally, we present the effective power management scheme among these components.

  • A network is an important portion of communications in these days. Because of many inconveniences of a wired-network, wireless solutions have been studied for many years. One of the results of those efforts is IEEE 802.11, wireless LAN. This paper briefly summarizes wireless LAN and specially focuses on the design of a network processor for the wireless LAN system. The processor has 16-bit instruction set suitably selected for network processing and low-power consumption. It is implemented and verified with a wireless LAN system model. The wireless LAN system is modeled in RTL excluding the RF module. The processor can be used in many wireless systems as a controller and utilized as a test module for the research of low-power schemes.

  • The probability of an oscillation occurrence in M/W frequency conversion repeaters is low on account of the different operating frequency of the input and output signals. The probability of interference caused by the M/W frequency conversion repeaters to other systems is also low because the systems are used in the line-of-sight. Therefore M/W frequency conversion repeaters are generally used for retransmitting the signal received from base station to the islands. This paper describes the design and implementation of analog predistorter for M/W frequency conversion repeaters in mobile communications. The M/W repeaters convert IF frequency of 1010+/-10MHz to RF frequency of 11GHz. A predistorter can be designed for the M/W repeater operating in either IF or M/W frequency. In this paper IF predistorter operated in 1010MHz is designed and implemented because a M/W predistorter operated in 11GHz is difficult to implement. The IF predistorter can linearize RF modules in the repeater followed by IF stages. The performance test results show that the implemented analog predistorter improves ACPR of 10dB at the output power of 25dBm with the signal frequency of 10.805GHz.

  • In this paper, we show the implementation of the low-cost RF transceiver module for parking control system. Super regenerative receiver scheme was adopted for this module due to its simplicity, low-cost, low power consumption and small number of components to improve reliability of the systems. For improving communication error rate by collision and in-band noise, dual-channel hopping scheme was adopted. Testing prototypes under the environment of simultaneous transmissions, we verified that the designed scheme is able to improve the success rate of data transmission of wireless parking control system cost effectively.

  • Low pressure radio-frequency glow discharges are investigated using theoretical modeling and various experimental diagnostic methods. In the calculations, global models and transformer models are developed to understand the chemical kinetics as well as the electrical properties such as the effective collision frequency, the heating mechanism and the power transferred to the plasma electrons. In addition, Boltzmann equation solver is used to compensate the effect of the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) shape in the global model, and the general expression of energy balance for non-Maxwellian electrons is developed. In the experiments, a number of traditional plasma diagnostic methods are used to compare with calculated results such as Langmuir probe, optical emission spectroscopy (OES), optical absorption spectroscopy (OAS) and two-photon absorption laser-induced fluorescence (TALIF). These theoretical and experimental methods are applied to understand several interesting phenomena in low pressure ICP discharges. The chemical and physical properties of low pressure ICP discharges are described and the applications of these methods are discussed.

  • Design and fabrication issues for an L-band GaAs Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit(MMIC) Voltage Controlled Oscillator(VCO) as a component of Personal Communications Systems(PCS) Radio Frequency(RF) transceiver are discussed. An ion-implanted GaAs MESFET tailored toward low current and low noise with 0.5mm gate length and 300mm gate width has been used as an active device, while an FET with the drain shorted to the source has been used as the voltage variable capacitor. The principal design was based on a self-biased FET with capacitive feedback. A tuning range of 140MHz and 58MHz has been obtained by 3V change for a 600mm and a 300mm devices, respectively. The oscillator output power was 6.5dBm wth 14mA DC current supply at 3.6V. The phase noise without any buffer or PLL was 93dB/1Hz at 100KHz offset. Harmonic balance analysis was used for the non-linear simulation after a linear simulation. All layout induced parasitics were incorporated into the simulation with EEFET2 non-linear FET model. The fabricated circuits were measured using a coplanar-type probe for bare chips and test jigs with ceramic packages.
