  • As the increasing HIF(High Impedance Fault) with the arc cannot be easily detected for the low fault current magnitude compared to actual load in distribution line. However, the arcing current shows that the magnitude varies with time and the signal is asymmetric. In addition, discontinuous changes occur at starting point of arc. Considering these characteristics, wavelet transformation of actual current data shows difference between before and after the fault. Althogh raw data(detail coefficient) of wavelet transform may not be directly applied to HIF detection logic in a device, there are several developing methods of HIF monitoring data using the original wavelet coefficients. In this paper, a simple and effective developing methods of HIF monitoring data were analized by using the signal data through an actual HIF experiment to apply them to economic devices. The methods using the sumation of the wavelet coefficient squares in one cycle of the fundamental frequency as the energies of the wavelet coefficeits and the sumation of the absolute values were compared. Besides, the improved method which less occupies H/W resouces and can be applied to field detection devices was proposed. and also Verification of this HIF detection method through field test on distribution system in KEPCO power testing center was performed.

  • A low cost YBCO oxide powder was employed as a starting precursor for MOD process. YBCO oxide is advantageous over metal acetates or TFA salts which are popular starting precursors for conventional MOD-TFA process because that YBCO oxide precursor is cheap and easy to control molar ratio. YBCO thin films were prepared by this oxide-precursor-based MOD process and annealing condition was optimized. The YBCO thin film annealed at below $780^{\circ}C$ shows no transport $I_c$ and poor microstructure. Raman spectroscopic study of YBCO thin film indicates that YBCO thin film prepared at below $780^{\circ}C$ contains a number of imperfections such as non-superconducting $BaCuO_2$ phase, cation disorder, etc. However, the YBCO thin film treated at above $800^{\circ}C$ shows improvement in microstructure and current transport properties. • This study reviews the current status of Korean first graders, their experience with early care and education (ECE) programs, and their participation in private and after-school education. The research also examines how school adjustment during the first grade is related to family income, types of ECE programs, and participation in private and after-school education. Using the first year data of the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010, this study analyzes 752 first graders who attended only one of two types of ECE programs (child care centers or kindergartens), after which two 25% income extremes were examined. The analysis demonstrates that children from low-income households attended child care centers more often, while children from high-income households attended kindergartens more often. For both low-income and high-income groups, child care centers had a lower starting age and longer attendance periods than did kindergartens. High-income household children started attending ECE programs earlier, experienced more private and after-school education, and received a larger number of private and after-school educational lessons. For the second research purpose, children from low-income families showed better peer relations in school adjustment, while children attending child care centers showed better teacher relations than children attending kindergartens. Children with after-school education also exhibited better peer relations. These findings show the importance of government support for early learning, especially for low-income families and offer a foundation for developing private education polices for early childhood before and after school entry.

  • The use of structural control devices to minimize structural response to seismic/dynamic excitations has attracted increased attention in recent years. The use of magnetorheological (MR) dampers as a control device have captured the attention of researchers in this field due to its flexibility, adaptability, easy control, and low power requirement compared to other control devices. However, little attention has been paid to the effect of configuration and number of dampers installed in a structure on responses reduction. This study assesses the control of a five-story structure using one and two MR dampers at different stories to determine the optimal damper positions and configurations based on performance indices. This paper also addresses the fail-safe current value to be applied to the MR damper at each floor in the event of feedback or control failure. The model is mathematically simulated in SIMULINK/MATLAB environment. Linear control strategies for current at 0 A, 0.5 A, 1 A, 1.5 A, 2 A, and 2.5 A are implemented for MR dampers, and the response of the structure to these control strategies for different configurations of dampers is compared with the uncontrolled structure. Based on the performance indices, it was concluded that the dampers should be positioned starting from the ground floor, then the 2nd floor followed by 1st and rest of the floors sequentially. The failsafe value of current for MR dampers located in lower floors (G+1) should be kept at a higher value compared to dampers at top floors for effective passive control of multi-story structures.

  • The Earth's ionosphere is an area where part of the upper atmosphere is ionized and exists in a plasma state that affects radio waves. It is a field that has been studied for a long time as it directly affects real life in relation to communications. Depending on the altitude, it is divided into D, E, and F layers depending on the main ions that make up the electron density. The density of the neutral atmosphere is very large compared to the electron density, so it should be described as plasma taking that effect into account. It is an area where influences from outside the ionosphere are directly reflected, starting from the sun and extending to the earth's surface, and is a field that involves complex and diverse areas of research. In this paper, we explain the process by which the Earth's upper atmosphere is ionized to form the ionosphere and introduce the characteristics of the ionosphere at low and mid-latitudes. In addition, we introduce the research that domestic researchers have participated in related to the ionosphere to date and hope that it will be used to promote exchange in the field of ionospheric research in the future.

  • Patent and utility indicate international competitiveness in the knowledge-based society of the $21^{st}$century where both the quantity and quality of the nation's scientific intelligence and innovative technology represent key criteria to evaluate its strength. Thus, discerning the trends of patents is inevitable for further development. This research is centered on apprehending the technological current of the functional clothing of Korea, through an analysis of patents and utility models. The number of patent applications in Korea was low until the mid-1990s. However, it began to grow rapidly in the 2000s and the number of patents surpassed the number of utility starting in 2006. The technological level of invention in this field has been turned into a higher level. The IPC code with the strongest application was the field related to temperature controllable clothing (A41D 13/005), followed by surgeon or patient apparel related fields (A41D 13/12), and reflective or luminous safety devices (A41D 13/01).The main technological idea was to give functionality that could protect the human body from various hazards and represents the goal of various applied techniques. About 66% of domestic patent applications belong to individuals; however, the proportion of corporate or institutional applications(including universities) remains poor. Consequently, more systematic and long-term support for research on patents is required.

  • It has been widely accepted that open phase may separate one of the power lines from power supply which is mainly caused by fuse melting, malfunction for source circuit breaker, contact failure, and disconnection under normal operating conditions, and is considered a kind of failure mode during disconnection of neutral wires as well. When open phase occurs, unequal voltage between phase might happen in the unbalanced load connected each phase, and further, depending on conditions of load, malfunction by providing low voltage. Moreover, load could be burned or overheated with overvoltage, which, in turn, can be a contributor to starting fires. Accordingly, in order to clearly overcome these problems, the current study aims to introduce the theory of uninterruptible power open phase compensation device, meaning that unbalanced power automatically restores balanced power and provides continuously the power supply without blackout, and verify it through simulation and experiments.

  • Current high-resolution IR spectroscopy at ground-based observatories made it possible to observe $3-{\mu}m\;CH_4$ emission lines from the atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn, and Titan through narrow atmospheric windows avoiding the counterparts of telluric $CH_4$ absorptions if proper Doppler shifts betwen Earth and these planetary objects are provided. We are also expecting low-resolution (R~300) infrared spectra of Jupiter from the upcoming observations by JUNO's infrared $2-5{\mu}m$ spectrograph during the encounter with Jupiter approximately starting from July 4, 2016. Although the spectral resolution is not enough to resolve the $3-{\mu}m$ P, Q, R branch lines of CH4, the gross envelopes of the P, Q, R branches should yield information on rotational temperatures. The rotational temperatures are useful because theycan be regarded as local temperatures, as discussed by Kim et al. (2014). Since the $3-{\mu}m\;CH_4$ emission is mostly formed at micro-bar pressure levels, the derived rotational temperatures represent the local temperatures near the hompause of Jupiter. We discuss possible sciences from the derived homopause temperatures in the auroral and non-auroral regions of Jupiter.
