  • This paper is devoted to investigate the feasibility of using a medium power ground-based laser to produce a torque on LEO satellites of various shapes. The laser intensity delivered to a satellite is calculated using a simple model of laser propagation in which a standard atmospheric condition and linear atmospheric interaction mechanism is assumed. The laser force is formulated using a geocentric equatorial system in which the Earth is an oblate spheroid. The torque is formulated for a cylindrical satellite, spherical satellites and for satellites of complex shape. The torque algorithm is implemented for some sun synchronous low Earth orbit cubesats. Based on satellites perigee height, the results demonstrate that laser torque affecting on a cubesat has a maximum value in the order of $10^{-9}$ which is comparable with that of solar radiation. However, it has a minimum value in the order of $10^{-10}$ which is comparable with that of gravity gradient. Moreover, the results clarify the dependency of the laser torque on the orbital eccentricity. As the orbit becomes more circular it will experience less torque. So, we can conclude that the ground based laser torque has a significant contribution on the low Earth orbit cubesats. It can be adjusted to obtain the required control torque and it can be used as an active attitude control system for cubesats.

  • BLDCMs are widely used in many industries. In certain specialized areas, they need to have high efficiency, high power rate and produce a low volume of noise, etc. In this study, a new type of slotless BLDCM is proposed that has no cogging torque, low iron loss and low volume as compared to commonly used BLDCMs. With a high performance magnet and coreless compact winding structure similar to those employed in linear synchronous motors, motor volume is reduced. The proposed motor has been put been through various experiments arid has demonstrated acceptable results for industry applications.

  • The control method of programmable dynamometer for overall test of machine is to load the reference torque which is computed from torque transducer into motor under test. But the torque information detected from torque transducer have a lot of noise when the load torque of moter is a small quantity or changing. Thus, torque transducer must have a low pass filter to detect a definite torque information. But The torque delay generated by filter with torque transducer occur a torque trouble for meter torque of programmable dynamometer. The proposed system improved the problem of the torque measuring delay with torque transducer, and the load torque is estimated by the minimal order state observer based on the torque component of the vector control induction meter. Therefore, the torque controller is not affected by a load torque disturbance.

  • This paper proposes a sensorless speed control based on a novel extension of the torque producing flux (active flux) observer for the surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSM) without additional high frequency signal injection. From the estimated torque producing flux, the rotor position and speed can be calculated at low speed due to their independency. Therefore, no rotor position sensor is required. Two approaches of the torque producing flux observer are presented and compared. The results show the stability and robustness of the expansion of the torque producing flux observer at low speed for the SPMSM.

  • This paper proposes a novel current-sensorless maximum torque per ampere control for a surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with low-resolution position sensor. A direct axis current is estimated from the mathematical model of the permanent magnet synchronous motor and the phase angle between direct and quadrature axis voltage commands is controlled to adjust the estimated direct axis current to zero, thus a maximum torque per ampere control can be achieved. The proposed method is suitable for low cost applications with slow dynamic response characteristics.

  • Electric machines for office automation device such as printer and scanner have been required the low noise and vibration performance. Many researches about the low noise and vibration of polygon mirror scanner motor have been also progressed. The noise and vibration of polygon mirror scanner motor can be classified by aerodynamic, structural and electromagnetic. Electromagnetic noise and vibration can be occurred by high cogging torque and nonsinusoidal back EMF. To improve the cogging torque and back EMF characteristic, we apply unequal air-gap. To analyse characteristic of a polygon mirror scanner motor, two dimensional finite element method is used. To minimize the cogging torque of a polygon mirror motor, Kriging based on latin hypercube sampling (LHS) is utilized. As a result, the cogging torque and torque ripple improved while maintaining the back EMF and average torque.

  • This study proposes a method for compensating for the commutation torque ripple of delta-connected brushless DC motors with low inductance based on a current predictions. At the commutation instant, a phase current at the next sampling period is predicted and compared with the reference phase current to determine whether torque ripples will occur or not. If the predicted current cannot reach the reference phase current, the reference current is modified and the relevant voltage reference is produced to reduce the torque ripple. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experimental results. The commutation torque ripple has been decreased by 17.7% at 1,000 rpm and 80% load conditions.

  • In this paper, a noncontact type torque meter using silicone rubber to measure the exact torque value and reduce a vibration and a noise, was developed. When planetary gear speed reducer runs, torque, RPM etc.. of motor change according to load or speed change. So, it needs a device to detect load's change or to diagnose the state of thewhole drive department by monitoring these result values. The noncontact type torque meter using silicone rubber that we're trying to develop this time is low-cost and can measure RPM and torque value simply. Also, it caculate a power using this value and indicate them on screen.

  • Minimizing the backlash of gears and reducers is important for their proper and precise functioning. In this study, an automatic backlash measuring system was developed for the mass production and quality control of a military-grade reducer. The developed automatic backlash measurement system eliminates human error during the backlash measurement process. It also reduces the manufacturing time and digitizes the backlash number. The system was tested for an aircraft machine gun control reducer that required low-torque and high-precision conditions. The test results show that the torque range was 0.820-4.788 Nm. The maximum torque error is less than 0.231 N·m at 2.943 N·m, and 1.2 arcmin of the maximum backlash error with ± 0.3 arcmin of repeatability. The developed system satisfies all required conditions: torque of 1-3 Nm, torque accuracy within ± 0.5 N·m, and backlash accuracy of ± 3 arcmin.
