Purpose: Various studies on a light shelf are in progress, but it has the problem of glare occurrence. The present study suggested a diffusion film as the method for resolving the glare problem, and aimed to establish light shelf-related basic data by conducting the performance evaluation of a light shelf depending on the installation position of the diffusion film. Method: To carry out the light shelf performance evaluation depending on the diffusion film installation position, three cases were established: no diffusion film installation (Case 1), diffusion film installation on the reflector (Case 2), and diffusion film installation on the upper glass surface of the window for light shelf installation (Case 3); and the energy reduction performance, luminance, and luminance contrast were analyzed based on a testbed. Result: The conclusions of this study are as follows. 1) When the diffusion film was applied, the amount of light introduced through the light shelf decreased, and the average indoor illumination decreased accordingly. 2) For Case 3, the lighting energy reduction performance was identical to the lighting energy reduction efficiency of the existing light shelf; and for Case 2, it was found to be inappropriate as the lighting energy consumption increased compared to that of the existing light shelf. 3) The analysis of the glare for the cases established in this study showed that the luminance contrast was low for Case 3, and thus the glare problem could be minimized. 4) The specific angle of the light shelf could induce the glare problem by increasing the luminance depending on the external condition. 5) Based on the aforementioned contents, the installation position of the diffusion film for improving the lighting performance and glare problem of the light shelf was found to be the upper glass surface of the window for light shelf installation.

LEDs are using widely in a field of illumination, LCD LED backlight, mobile signals because they have several merits, such as low power consumption, long lifetime, high brightness, fast response, environment friendly. To achieve high performance LEDs, one needs to enhance output power, reduce operation voltage, and improve device reliability. In this paper, we have proposed that the optimum design and specialized process could improve the performance of LED chip. It was showed an output power of 7cd and input supplied voltage of 3.2V by the insertion technique of current blocking layer. In this paper, GaN-based LED chip which is built on the sapphire epi-wafer by selective MOCVD were designed and developed. After that, their performances were measured. It showed the output power of 7cd more than conventional GaN-based chip. It will be used the lighting source of a medical equipment and LCD LED TV with GaN-based LED chip.
Recently, the fields such as internet banking and electronic commerce are more and more growing due to the growth of practical use of personal computer and the progress of communication technology, So importance of information security has been increased. In fact, traditional identification systems are inherently insecure because the personal identification information can be forgotten, stolen or lost. In this paper, we propose an identification system that can decide whether the user is registered based on iris information using a mouse. The proposed system is mounted a CCD camera and an illumination device on general type mouse. Then it decides whether the user is registered after the acquired image are processed and analyzed. This system gives a PC user the advantage of low-cost and convenience without necessity preparing high-cost equipment for biometrics when using a identification system.
In order to examine the effect of $TiO_2$ on photosterilization of microorganism. Proper content of $TiO_2$, illumination time, wave length specificity and cell concentration were investigated for photosterilization of E. coli, B. subtilis and S. cerevisiae. The amount of $TiO_2$ for photosterilization of E. coli was effective in the range of $5{\sim}20\;mg%$. The sterilization time was reduced when the low wave length below 400 nth was not cut off by glass, but the catarizing effect of $TiO_2$ was similar to overall wave length. The photosterilization effects by $TiO_2$ addition was recognized among S. cerevisiae, E. coli and B. subtilis in that order. The photosterilization time of S. cerevisiae was considerably reduced at $10^4/ml$ cell concentration compared to $10^5/ml$.
Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) supported on glass are widely used as substrates in PEC studies for photovoltaic hydrogen generation applications However, high sheet resistane ($10{\sim}15{\Omega}/cm^2$) and fragileness of glass-supported TCO substrates are the obstacles to produce the large area PEC cells. Such internal sheet resistance is detrimental to efficient collection of photogenerated majority charge carriers at the photoactive material and electrolyte interface. Moreover, these TCO substrates are very expensive and consume about 40~60% cost of the devices. Hence, a low sheet resistance of the substrate is a key point in improving the performance of PEC devices. Metallic substrates coated with a photoactive material would be a good choice for efficient charge collection. Such metal substrates based photanodes are best candidate for large-scale phtoelectrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation. In this study, we report the enhanced PEC performance of $WO_3$ film on metal(chemical etched, bare) substrate. It is proposed that interface between $WO_3$ and the metal substrate is responsible for efficient charge transfer and demonstrated significant improvement in the photoelectrochmical performance. X-ray diffration and FESEM suduies reveled that $WO_3$ films are monoclinic, porous, polycrystalline with average grain size of ~50nm. Photocurrent of $WO_3$ prepared on metal substrates was measured in 0.5M $H_2SO_4$ electroyte under simulated $100mW/cm^2$ illumination.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on III-nitrides compound semiconductors have achieved a high performance device available for display and illumination sector. However, the conventional c-plane oriented LED structures are still showing several problems given by the quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE) due to the effects of strong piezoelectric and spontaneous polarizations. The QCSE results in spatial separation of electron and hole wavefunctions in quantum wells, thereby decreasing the internal quantum efficiency and red-shifting the emission wavelength. Due to demands for improvement of device performance, nonpolar structure has been attracting attentions, since the quantum wells grown on nonpolar templates are free from the QCSE. However, current device performance for nonpolar LEDs is still lower than those for conventional LEDs. In this study, we discuss the potential possibilities of nonpolar LEDs for commercialization. In this study, we characterized current-light output power relation of the a-plane InGaN/GaN LEDs structures with the variation of quantum well structures. On-wafer electroluminescence measurements were performed with short pulse (10 us) and low duty factor (1 %) conditions applied for eliminating thermal effects. The well and barrier widths, and indium compositions in quantum well structures were changed to analyze the efficiency droop phenomenon.

Dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) having high efficiency with low cost was first reported by Gr$\ddot{a}$tzel et al. Many DSSC research groups attempt to enhance energy conversion efficiency by modifying the dye, electrolyte, Pt-coated electrode, and $TiO_2$ films. However, there are still some problems against realization of high-sensitivity DSSC such as the recombination of injected electrons in conduction band and the limited adsorption of dye on $TiO_2$ surface. The surface of $TiO_2$ is very important for improving hydrophilic property and dye adsorption on its surface. In this paper, we report a very efficient method to improve the efficiency and stability of DSSC with nano-structured $TiO_2$. Atmospheric plasma system was utilized for nitrogen plasma treatment on nano-structured $TiO_2$ film. We confirmed that the efficiency of DSSC was significantly dependent on plasma power. Relative in the $TiO_2$ surface change and characteristics after plasma was investigated by various analysis methods. The structure of $TiO_2$ films was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of $TiO_2$ films was observed using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The surface elemental composition was determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Each of plasma power differently affected conversion efficiency of DSSC with plasma-treated $TiO_2$ compared to untreated DSSC under AM 1.5 G spectral illumination of $100mWcm^{-2}$.
Planetary global localization is necessary for long-range rover missions in which communication with command center operator is throttled due to the long distance. There has been number of researches that address this problem by exploiting and matching rover surroundings with global digital elevation maps (DEM). Using conventional methods for matching, however, is challenging due to artifacts in both DEM rendered images, and/or rover 2D images caused by DEM low resolution, rover image illumination variations and small terrain features. In this work, we use train CNN discriminator to match rover 2D image with DEM rendered images using conditional Generative Adversarial Network architecture (cGAN). We then use this discriminator to search an uncertainty bound given by visual odometry (VO) error bound to estimate rover optimal location and orientation. We demonstrate our network capability to learn to translate rover image into DEM simulated image and match them using Devon Island dataset. The experimental results show that our proposed approach achieves ~74% mean average precision.

Common LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp has many advantages to compare with fluorescent lamp, long life and no pollution matter like the mercury. The LED lamp is a good light source especially for shipboard lighting because of its compact structure which prevents explosion and shock. Also, low maintenance cost is expected due to its longer life time in comparison with conventional lamps. The LED lamp, however, need some estimates that change of voltage and frequency, vibration, moisture on board to definite accommodation of the LED lamp to shipboard. The purpose of this study is to compare physical properties of a fluorescent lamp with one of the common LED lamp so as to analyze accommodation of common LED lamp on board. This study was carried out in two stages. First, temperature, humidity of illumination, voltage, electric current, frequency and electric power were measured by using experimental equipments. Second, a comparative analysis of consumption electric power, annual oil charge, annual CO2 emission and lamp life time, etc of the fluorescent lamp and common LED one was made. As a result of the study, the consumption electric power of fluorescent lamp was 50% higher than one of the common LED lamp. As a result of measuring life time, it was found that life time of common LED lamp was more about 3.5 fold than one of the fluorescent lamp. Considering these results, it's thought that common LED lamp is verified that energy saving is possible and using is possible as substitute for fluorescent lamp on board.

In this paper, we implemented a real-time remote home monitoring system which we have ported the Linux OS and HTTP(Hypertext Transfer Protocol) web server. The GoAhead web server was ported using by ARM cross compiler. And then we used the analog to digital converter ADC0809 for sensing the vii able input signal at widely separated home. We have implemented linux device driver for ADC(Analog to Digital Convertor) and CGI-C(Common Gateway Interface - C language) application program using Client pull method for monitoring real-time changing data. The factor of monitoring is temperature, intensity of illumination and gas's existence. And this system has ability which check the status of out door and gas valve. We have designed the embedded web server system for home emergency monitoring in low cost.
