  • In this paper, an efficient LP method ofr discrete harmonic spectra is proposed and discussed. A new efficient LP method is a combination of recursive and frequency selective LP. While the recursive LP provides better spectral matching in spectral hills, frequency selective LP eliminates numerical instability and improves spectral matching when the harmonics are confined in the low frequncy region. The proposed LP method is applied to the HILN coder. Simulation results using a verification model(VM) software for real audio signals show a definite trend of significant improvement.

  • Hybrid rocket combustion displays low frequency instability(LFI, 10~30Hz) at a certain condition. Vortex shedding in the post-chamber is suspected to cause the occurrence of LFI. This study focused on the visualization of flow image using light emissions from high temperature combustion gas. Results shows that combustion pressure oscillates at a frequency of about 18 Hz, which is in phase with oscillations of light emission. Since LFI is not a property of thermo-acoustic instability, this result suggested there exists a physical coupling of pressure fluctuations with light emissions proportional to chemical reaction. Also POD analysis shows that dominant symmetric spatial modes in the stable combustion shift suddenly into asymmetric spatial pattern with the appearance of LFI. Especially, the appearance of mode 3 is a typical change of flow dynamics in unstable combustion representing a rotational fluid motions associated with vortex shedding.

  • The objective of this study is to obtain the unstable characteristics of the high-speed two-dimensional jet impinging normally onto a flat plate. The study is based on the feedback model and the experiment of the frequency characteristics of the impinging tones. Using the experimental data for the tonal frequencies of the impinging tones the convection speed of the unstable jet is obtained along with all the other features. Three kinds of unstable modes are clarified: asymmetric $A_{1}$ and $A_{2}$ and symmetric S. The condition for the excitation of each mode is found in terms of Strouhal number and Reynolds number. The convection speed is estimated and discussed in comparison with existing theoretical models. It is found that the convection speed increases with frequency when the mode is asymmetric, but decreases when it is symmetric. In addition, the characteristics of the high-speed impinging jet are compared with the low-speed impinging jet.

  • Combustion instability is a common phenomenon in a ducted flame burner and is known as accompanying low frequency oscillation. This is due to the interaction between unsteady heat release rate and sound pressure field, that is, thermoacoustic feedback. In Rayleigh criterion, combustion instability is triggered when the heat additions is in phase with acoustic oscillation. A Rijke type burner with a pre-mixed flame is built for investigating the effect of Reynolds number and equivalence ratio on thermoacoustic oscillation. In addition, the effect of wall temperature is presented. The results suggest that the frequency of max. oscillation is dependent on Reynolds number and equivalence ratio whereas its magnitude is not a strong function of these two parameters. On the other hand, the wall temperature distribution has much strong effects on the oscillation, even creates different mode of acoustic resonance.

  • A study was performed to understand self-excited pressure fluctuations in the lean premixed flames and to evaluate the effect of Helmholtz resonator on the pressure fluctuations. As low-frequency pressure fluctuations have been reported to cause fatal damage to the combustor and the entire system, Helmholtz-type resonators, which reduce the damage by low-frequency pressure fluctuation in the combustor, are attached to the channel of unburned mixture flow. It is found that the range of low-frequency pressure fluctuations of flame mode 2 is narrowed by the attachment of Helmholtz resonators. From this result, if Helmholtz-type resonators are applied to actual gas turbine combustor, it is confirmed that Helmholtz resonators attached on the fuel discharge hole are also effective for narrowing the range of flame mode 2

  • In this paper, a theoretical study of low frequency non acoustic instability, the $L^*$ instability, of a solid rocket motor is investigated. The $L^*$ stability criterion is determined by analysing the $L^*$ stability curves of two very distinct propellants for five different geometrical combustors. The $L^*$ instability of two extreme fuels showed totally different behavior in terms of operating pressure of the combustor. A parametric study on the stability for different chamber volume and different throat area keeping constant $L^*$ is conducted and analyzed. It was found that one of the main parameters, the non-dimensional critical characteristic time, requires an enough margin from the critical $L^*$ stability curve.

  • Combustion instability by thermoacoustic feedback incite strong low frequency noise and vibration which damage the system and provoke the environmental problems. Therefore, it is necessary to control the thermoacoustic oscillation. In the way of controlling the instability, active control method using adaptive algorithm is applied. In this study, active noise control method using anti-sound technique is selected, whose principle is cancelling the noise with the addition of opposite phase sound. At first, simulation is performed to confirm the stability of controller, and after that control of combustion instability is carried out to get cancellation of 20-30dB SPL.

  • Negative Bias Temperature Instability (NBTI) in Eximer Laser Annealing (ELA) based Low Temperature polysilicon (LTPS) Thin-Film Transistors (TFT) was investigated. Even though NBTI is generally appeared in devices with thin gate oxide, the TFT with gate oxide thickness of 120 nm, relatively thick, also showed NBTI effect and dynamic NBTI effect is dependent on operational frequency.

  • The hot-firing tests of a subscale gas generator were successfully performed to investigate the effect of injector shape variation on its discharge coefficient. The test results showed that discharge coefficient of liquid oxygen injectors was enhanced significantly. However, the combustion instability of low-frequency fluctuation occurred at low and design pressure conditions.
