Design and Evaluation of Real-time GNSS Attitude Determination Systems using Low Cost Receivers (저가형 수신기를 이용한 실시간 GNSS 자세결정 시스템 설계 및 성능 평가)

  • In this paper, the real-time attitude determination based Matlab using low-cost receivers was designed and evaluated. The GNSS attitude determination system was implemented to operation in real-time by TimerCallback in MATLAB. The TTM(Transmission Time Misalignment) of U-blox receiver was confirmed through zero baseline tests and this problem was revised. The computed attitude by the high-cost NovAtel receiver was compared to the computed attitude by the low-cost U-blox receiver. As a result of this, the performance of attitude determination systems by low-cost receiver was confirmed. To determine baseline, LAMBDA and BC-LAMBDA for integer ambiguities search methods were used. To confirm suitable integer ambiguity search method in real-time attitude determination algorithm, determined baselines by two methods were compared, and it was confirmed that BC-LAMBDA is more suitable. As a result of this, the operation of real-time attitude determination system was confirmed using 3 low-cost receivers.

  • This paper presents a multi-phase ring VCO for low-cost, low-power GPS receiver. In the RF band used in GPS, L1 band is now in commercial-use and L2,L5 are predicting to be commercial-use soon. Thus Wide band PLL and Cost-effective IC solutions are required for future multi-band GPS receiver that received three types band at once. A new PLL architecture for multi-band GPS application is proposed. Ring VCO is even smaller than LC-VCO and a good alternative for low-cost solution. Proposed multi-phase ring VCO offers wide frequency range covering L1, L2, and L5 band, 20% reduction of area, 23% reduction of PLL power and can generate I/Q without extra I/Q generator.

  • The attitude determination system is indispensable for navigation, guidance and control tasks. In order to construct this system some special products that use dual frequencies or have on receiver engine with multiple antennas are used. But they are so expensive. Thus there are still strong requirements for the conventional low cost single frequency off-the-shelf receiver. This paper will propose a new technique to resolve integer ambiguity with single frequency GPS receiver and will show the problems of the attitude applications in which low cost receiver are being used. Also, based on this new technique precise attitude determination is presented.

  • We have designed and fabricated a low-cost, V-band CPW receiver chip set using GaAs PHEMT technology for the application of millimeter-wave wireless communication systems. Low noise amplifiers and down-converters were developed for this chip set. The fabricated low noise amplifier showed an S$\sub$21/ gain of 14.9 ㏈ at 60 ㎓ and a noise figure of 4.1 ㏈ at 52 ㎓. The down-converter exhibited a high conversion gain of 2 ㏈ at the low LO Power of 0 ㏈m. This work demonstrates that the GaAs PHEMT technology is a viable low-cost solution for V-band applications.

  • In this paper, we show the implementation of the low-cost RF transceiver module for parking control system. Super regenerative receiver scheme was adopted for this module due to its simplicity, low-cost, low power consumption and small number of components to improve reliability of the systems. For improving communication error rate by collision and in-band noise, dual-channel hopping scheme was adopted. Testing prototypes under the environment of simultaneous transmissions, we verified that the designed scheme is able to improve the success rate of data transmission of wireless parking control system cost effectively.

  • An attitude GPS receiver with 3 antennas obtains 3-dimensional attitude using GPS carrier phase measurement INS obtains the 3 dimensional navigation solution for IMU consisting of accelerometers and gyro. Ground-alignment process for the low -cost INS cannot be performed well due to the large sensor noise. Using the standard GPS receiver, however, continuous in-flight alignment for the INS becomes possible, and consequently, the errors in IMU sensors and navigation solution can be compensated. Especially with attitude measurement from the attitude GPS receiver, the compensation of errors in gyroscope and attitude would be done respite of the vehicle´s dynamics and their error covariance would be reduced.   • COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite), the first Korean geostationary meteorological satellite, provides free meteorological information through HRIT/LRIT(High/Low Rate Information Transmission) service. This work presents the development of data receiver circuit that is essential to the implementation of a low-cost meteorological information receiver system. The data receiver circuit processes the data units according to the specification of physical layer and data link layer of HRIT/LRIT service. For this purpose, the circuit consists of a Viterbi decoder, a sync. word detector, a derandomizer, a Reed-Solomon decoder and so on. The circuit also supports PCI express interface to pass the information data on to the host PC. The circuit was implemented on an FPGA(field programmable gate array) and its function was verified through simulations and hardware implementation.

  • A receiver architecture with low complexity for chirp spread spectrum (CSS) of IEEE 802.15.4a is proposed. To demodulate the received signal at the highest signal to noise power ratio, matched filter is generally adopted for the receiver of wireless communication systems. It is, however, not resonable to adjust the matched filter to the receiver of CSS whose objectives are low complexity, low cost and low power consumption since complexity of the matched filter is high. In this paper, we propose a new receiver architecture using differential multiplication and accumulator not matched filter for demodulation. Also, bi-orthogonal decoder implemented by only adder/subtractor is proposed. The hardware resources for implementation are reduced in the proposed receiver architecture, although bit error rate performance is low compared with the receiver architecture based on the matched filter.

  • We discussed the main issues of 10GHz Receiver packaging. High frequency structure simulations and circuit simulations for TO-CANs led to a new design for 10GHz optical receiver module packaging. The simulation results were compared to the measured laboratory data. The proposed package has low cost and easy manufacture process far mass production. Using this package, we had a good optical to electrical conversion (OE) characteristic at a data rate of 10Gbps.

  • In this paper, we propose an enhanced Timing Estimator algorithm for 2.45GHz LR-WPAN receiver. Because an expensive and highly efficient oscillator can't be used for low-cost implementation, a Timing Estimator algorithm having stable operation in the channel environment with center frequency tolerance of 80 ppm is required. To enhance the robustness to frequency offset and the stability of receiver performance, multiple delay differential filter is adopted. By utilizing the characteristic that the correlation result between the output signal of Multiple delay differential filter and reference signal is restricted on the In-phase part of the correlator output, a coherent detection scheme instead of the typical noncoherent one is adopted for Timing Estimator. The application of the coherent detection scheme is suitable for LR-WPAN receiver aimed at low-cost, low-power, and low-complexity, since it can remove performance degradation due to squaring loss of I/Q squaring operation and decrease implementation complexity. Computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieved performance improvement compared with the differential detection-based noncoherent scheme by 2dB in average.
