Determination of Road Image Quality Using Fuzzy-Neural Network (퍼지신경망을 이용한 도로 영상의 양불량 판정)

  • The confidence of information from image processing depends on the original image quality. Enhancing the confidence by an algorithm has an essential limitation. Especially, road images are exposed to lots of noisy sources, which makes image processing difficult. We, in this paper, propose a FNN (fuzzy-neural network) capable oi deciding the quality of a road image prior to extracting lane-related information. According to the decision by the FNN, road images are classified into good or bad to extract lane-related information. A CDF (cumulative distribution function), a function of edge histogram, is utilized to construct input parameters of the FNN, it is based on the fact that the shape of the CDF and the image quality has large correlation. Input pattern vector to the FNN consists of ten parameters in which nine parameters are from the CDF and the other one is from intensity distribution of raw image. Correlation analysis shows that each parameter represents the image quality well. According to the experimental results, the proposed FNN system was quite successful. We carried out simulations with real images taken by various lighting and weather conditions and achieved about 99% successful decision-making.

Power generation characteristics of thermoelectric module for waste heat energy harvesting (폐열에너지 하베스팅을 위한 열전모듈 발전특성 연구)

  • Recently, due to limitation of $CO_2$ gas emission and increase of demand to reduce energy consumption, lots of researches are conducted to harvest wasted heat energy with a thermoelectric module to produce electricity by Seebeck effect. This study was conducted to analyze characteristics of the thermoelectric module to apply for a heat energy harvesting device. Thermoelectric module composed of bismuth telluride was tested with various temperature conditions to analyze thermoelectric behavior of the module. Power generation efficiency of the thermoelectric module for various temperature condition was analysed with both experimental and theoretical methods. From the results, an optimum condition to harvest wasted heat energy with the thermoelectric module more efficiently was proposed.

Anti-inflammatory Effect of MeOH Extracts of the Stem of Polygonum multiflorum in LPS-stimulated Mouse Peritoneal Macrophages

  • Polygoni multiflori Ramulus (PM), the stem of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. has been widely used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of lots of diseases. In macrophages, nitric oxide is released as an inflammatory mediator and has been proposed to be an important modulator of many pathophysiological conditions in inflammation. In the present study, it was investigated that the inhibitory effects on NO and proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and the mechanism of down-regulation of immune response by 85% methanol extracts of PM in mouse (C57BL/6) peritoneal macrophages. Extracts of PM (0.1, 1 mg/ml) suppressed NO production and showed inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines like TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6 and it attenuated iNOS and COX-2 expression via down-regulation of NF-${\kappa}$B activation. The present results indicate that the 85% methanol extracts of PM has an inhibitory effect on the production of NO through down-regulation of iNOS expression in LPS stimulated mouse peritoneal macrophages and therefore may be beneficial in diseases which related to macrophage-mediated inflammatory disorders.

A study on the ice and snow loading condition in Taebaek and Sabuk area in Gangwon province for the construction of KEPCO 765kV transmission lines (한전 765 kV 송전선로 건설을 위한 강원도 태백.사북지역 착빙설 하중조건 검토)

  • Some part of the route in KEPCO 765kV transmission line being constructed passes through a high mountain area which is 800m above the sea level (Taebaek, Sabuk area in Gangwon province). This area is the top part of Taebaek mountains corresponding to the backbone of korean peninsula and has lots of snow during the winter season because the winter seasonal wind gone up along the mountainside of Taebaek Mts. meets open air of the East sea. KEPCO has experienced 63 faults of T/L between 1968 and 1993 in this area, which is a very serious problem. Especially 154kV Hwang-Ji T/L fault in 1990, 2 was a unprecedented case which needs to be analyzed carefully to take proper measures. After reviewing ice and snow loading conditions and analyzing the fault of Hwang-Ji T/L, we're going to determine the revisement of ice and snow loading condition in this area to increase reliability of 765kV transmission line.

  • It becomes necessary for engine manufactures to verify whether lots of engines on test bed during shop test are in compliance with NOx Technical Code for marine diesel engines more efficiently on the basis of engine group test concept which contains parent engine and member engines since all the engines are not needed to take NOx measurement. In addition, it becomes more obliged to consider parameters which affect NOx emission level and describe these parameters in NOx technical file as engine information and settings to define engine operation range with tolerance to make sure the engines are still in compliance with NOx emission limit on board after shop test. During preparation of engine group test for 4-stroke marine diesel engines, we evaluated NOx emission value under different engine operating conditions and found that there are certain parameters, for example, Charge air temperature and Max. cylinder pressure which have influence on NOx emission level. The NOx emission shall be satisfied with NOx technical code by means of controlling such parameters.

  • There is a problem to be solved for improvement of durability and safety supervision. When you do the waterproofing and anticorrosive work of main concrete from the design stage, the material and method of construction need to be correctly applied to appropriate circumstance conditions. Epoxy have mostly been used for concrete water tank structure. Lately, lots of subjects on adaption of polyurea resin waterproofing and anticorrosive are under discussion. Then, we attempt to approach by evaluating and comparing every capabilities with another waterproofs in this study. Performance evaluation items include the adherence performance, the imprint of seal performance, temperature dependence performance, promotion weatherizing ability, inner chemical performance, drinking water eruptive performance. Through the experiment analysis, we found that the polyurea resin waterproofing membrane is dominantly superior to other waterproofs. According to this study, we suggest the polyurea resin waterproofing membrane as a new waterproofing material for concrete structure.

  • High speed precision machines have been introduced to the CNC industry in order to improve productivity, shorten the appointed date of delivery and reduce the prime cost. High speed machines have more functions then general machines, and they were proved in performance. The production and sales of the high speed machines have been increased not only in domestic market but also all over the world. Accordingly, machines are faster, there are lots of problems to be solved. One of the most difficult problems is the thermal displacement on the main spindle due to generated heat while the spindle is rotated in high speed. Since the thermal displacement directly effects the quality of the machined parts, utmost efforts to minimize the thermal displacement have to be given from the beginning of designing machines. In practice, variety of methods are attempted and practiced to minimize the thermal displacement such as design of symmetrical frame, adoption of high speed bearings, application of compensation system using non-contact sensor and use of forced circulating lubrication system with oil cooler. Even if these variable methods have been practically used in the industrial field, generated heat has not been perfectly prevented. Hence, in this paper, the characteristics of thermal displacement were investigated when several kinds of oil were tested for a high speed machine with forced circulating lubrication system within the same atmosphere and under the same conditions.

  • Tube hydroforming process is generally consisted with pre-bending, preforming and hydroforming processes. Among forming defects which may occur in tube hydroforming such as buckling, wrinkling and bursting, the wrinkling and bursting by local instability under excessive tensile stress mode were mainly caused by thinning phenomenon in the manufacturing process. Thus the accurate prediction and suitable evaluation of the thinning phenomenon play an important role in designing and producing the successfully hydroformed parts without any failures. In this work, the formability on hydroformed part for automobile, i.e. engine cradle, was evaluated using finite element analysis. The initial tube radius, loading path with axial feeding force and internal pressure, and preformed configuration after preforming process were considered as the dominant process parameters in total tube hydroforming process. The effects on these process parameters could be confirmed through the numerical experiments with respect to several kinds of finite element simulation conditions. The degree of enhancement on formability with each process parameters such as initial tube radius, loading path and preform configuration were also compared. Therefore, it is noted that the evaluation approach of the formability on hydroformed parts for lots of industrial fields proposed in this study will provide one of feasible methods to satisfy the increasing practical demands for the improvement of the formability in tube hydroforming processes.

  • For the comfortable housing life, an urban environment should give comfort and pleasantness to people living in house and in city. There are lots of environmental conditions in city affecting house and life and most of all the noise pollution have been become factor that makes people's life hard without need to say. Recently researches have been performed to create comfortable urban environment and a study on the evaluation of urban environmental sounds is now undergoing. This study aimed to analyse the subjective characteristics through the subjective evaluation to the sounds measured with physical parameters and eventually to find out evaluation method for urban environmental sounds. Vocabularies applied to previous studies were used for the subjective evaluation and sound sources recorded in specific places were presented with picture at the same time.

  • Recently, in forest areas of Gyeonggi-Do where golf courses are developed indiscriminately due to the rapid increase in demand, two and three golf courses are being concentrated and combined to develop and it's occurring lots of problems. This study therefore, aims to examine their problems and propose environment-friendly improvements of combined development, by analyzing laws related to golf course's location and the current location status. The results of this study are as followings; Firstly, when analyzing related laws, it was found that unified standards should be established in relation to regulation of the external conditions of golf course sites and individual index. Secondly, standards of a proper separated distance are needed, when developing golf courses. Thirdly, we need to preferentially preserve areas where should be protected environmentally, and establish criteria approving golf courses built close to the boundary of a buffer area only, by introducing the concepts of a buffer area based on the UNESCO MAB. Lastly, we have to set up criteria considering Network elements for maintaining the connectivity of the ecosystem.
