  • Seoul suffers from over congestion of outdoor signage. Signage is on everywhere including on windows, on entrance way, on every available space on the building wall. The excessiveness is up to the point that decorating surface of a building is almost meaningless and most signage is lost in each other's profuse presence. The competition to attract more attention is resulting in bigger, brighter, and more stimulating signage. As the result, outdoor signage of Seoul have lost its intended function to provide useful information and befallen to be viewed as visual pollution. As it is an important visual element of city view, the outdoor signage also serves important role of delivering needed information in proper way to enhance convenience of city life. At the same time, it is a very important marketing tool that is essential to economic activity. Outdoor signage also holds enormous potential to act as a visual and structural element to improve city view just as a beautiful architecture does. However, outdoor signage that does not consider the harmony with its surrounding environment can only be treated as visual pollution. The effort of Seoul to better the city view by improving the outdoor signage started at Jong-ro area. By reforming outdoor signage, the streets of Jong-ro achieved much more harmonious and aesthetically pleasing city view. The study went through analysis of current status and characteristics of outdoor signage of Cheonho-dong Rodeo Street, Gangdong district to suggest detailed design solution to reform the roadside view and to revitalize the street.

  • This study was designed to develop non-thermal pasteurized fresh apple juice by applying pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment. The effect of non-thermal PEF treatment on physicochemical and sensory properties of apple juice was examined by measuring changes in vitamin C contents, colors, flavors and sensory properties. Color of PEF and heat treated apple juices was not significantly different from each other. Vitamin C content of PEF treated apple juice was close to that of fresh apple juice, but was much higher than that of heat treated apple juice. Heat treated apple juice lost 70% of flavor components, whereas PEF-treated apple juice lost only 15%. Sensory scores of PEF treated apple juice were significantly higher than heat-treated one in flavor, taste and overall acceptability. In conclusion, PEF treated apple juice had superior physico-chemical and sensory properties to heat-treated one.

  • This study focuses on an M/M/1 queue with an attached continuous-type inventory. The customers arrive into the system according to the Poisson process, and are served in their arrival order; i.e., first-come-first-served. The service times are assumed to be independent and identically distributed exponential random variable. At a service completion epoch, the customer consumes a random amount of inventory. The inventory is controlled by the traditional (s, S)-inventory policy with a generally distributed lead time. A customer that arrives during a stock-out period assumed to be lost. For the number of customers and the inventory size, we derive a product-form stationary joint probability distribution and provide some numerical examples. Besides, an operational strategy for the inventory that minimizes the long-term cost will also be discussed.

  • As the industrialization and urbanization are advanced rapidly, the apartment housing has been in excessive supply. Also, the apartment housing that offers modern people a comfortable life has been the typical housing type in Korea. Meanwhile, people today have lost their morality and communities have been dissolved because of a sudden social change. But the lost morality can be recovered when the communities are established. As more increasing in the residents' demands, it is enlarging of residents' interests and participations in pursuit of quality of life. In this process, residents' participation has occurred of their free will not only in offline communities but also online communities. For developing of IT technology, people using internet have exceeded 75% and development of online communities in apartment housing have boundless potentialities despite in a delicate situation that is at the same time and same space. The purpose of this study is that examine the possibilities and directions of participation, as it attempts to grasp the present conditions and problems of online community. In the study, we searched the word, apartment housing, on portal site to apprehensive the status of residents' voluntary participation on online community. According to research, residents' voluntary participation on online community was divided into three frames, such as remodeling, planed resident and designing friendship. Finally we found out resident's contents of communication and structure of their participation by these frames. As a result, participation on online community helps residents who have been not take part in offline community because of limited time in spite of difficulty of lasting participation. From now on, it will have possibility to increase and revitalize new communities on the purpose.

  • Patients who lost molars from dental caries or periodontitis have difficulty in maintaining their vertical dimension because their incisors and premolars also show vertical tooth movement. Missing posterior molars leads to occlusal interference and collapse of occlusal plane due to extrusion of opposite teeth and tipping of adjacent teeth. When this condition persists over long time, mandible moves forward, so it causes mobility and labioversion of upper incisors. This progress cannot be stopped spontaneously and the situation gets worse and worse. Therefore, for a patient with pathologic teeth migration caused by chronic periodontitis, interdisciplinary approach which is including periodontal treatment, orthodontic teeth alignment and prosthetic restoration of missing molars is required. This case report shows successful multidisciplinary approach to a patient who lost vertical dimension due to severe dental caries and periodontitis.

  • A cloud service customer has no other way but to wait for his lost data to be recovered by the cloud service provider when the data was lost or not accessible for a while due to the provider's system failure, cracking attempt, malfunction, or outage. We consider a solution to address this problem that can be implemented in the cloud client's domain, rather than in the cloud service provider's domain. We propose a high level architecture and scheme for successfully retrieving data units even when several cloud storages are not accessible at the same time. The scheme is based on a clever way of partitioning and partial overlapping of data for being stored on multiple cloud storages. In addition to providing a high level of data availability, the scheme makes it possible to re-encrypt data units with new keys in a user transparent way, and can produce the complete log of every user's data units accessed, for assessing data disclosure, if needed.

  • We performed the conservation treatment for Bigyeokchinjeonnoe (A kind of time bomb in the Joseon Dynasty) excavated from Hwawangsanseong Fortress in Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do Province. Part of the Bigyeokchinjeonnoe has been lost; we did not restore the lost part so that one can observe the inside through it. The results of X-ray investigation and C. T (Computed Tomography) scan proved the generation of many blowholes around the molding line during the casting process; a hole in the casting mold to maintain inner mold during casting was identified on the surface and traces of fortifying this part with iron plate were also identified. The main ingredients of the blue corrosion on the surface were identified as O, Fe, P, Si and Al by SEM/EDS analysis. The result of XRD analysis identified the blue corrosion as vivianite [Fe3(PO4)2·8H2O]. The metal structure clarified its material was gray cast iron.

  • 1. "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" is a medical book that was published and edited by Naeuiwon(內醫院) under the king's command in the Joseon Dynasty in 1607. 2. It includes the contents but doesn't a preface and an epilogue. And several medical treatments and herb medicines of diseases from emergency are noted in the original text of "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)". The book is composed of two volume and 181 pages. 3. A number of cultural properties and medical books were lost and all people of the nation were suffered from poverty and diseases during Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592. Then some books of Korean translation of Chinese classics were edited under the king's command with the intention of recompiling the lost books and easy application of medical knowledge for the people. 4. "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" admit several books and notes the reference books at the beginning or the end. This book has 37 kinds of reference books, and those are "Boncho(本草)", "Uihakgangmok(醫學綱目)", "Uihakimmun(醫學入門)", "Deukhyobang(得效方)", "Uihakjeongjeon(醫學正傳)", "Dan-gyebang(丹溪方)" and so on in the main. 5. "Gugupbang(救急方)"(in the Sejo Dynasty) is similar to "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" in aspect of helping the people with convenient contents. But it is a point of difference that the composition and contents of "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" are more centering about the medical prescriptions than those of "Gukupbang(救急方)". 6. "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" is very similar to the "Gukupmun救急門" in the "Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)" in the contents and construction of the list. "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" was published during the writing of "Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)", so it has a deep meaning that "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" is a condensed version of easy application for the civilian by regulating already established section. 7. It seems that "Eonhaegukupbang(諺解救急方)" has continuous influences in the part of emergency in the "Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)"

  • One of the important processes in device-to-device communication is the discovery of proximate devices. In order to perform precise discovery of devices, the distance information among all the device pairs should be gathered by each device sending a discovery signal in turn and the other devices receiving the signal. However, periodic discovery signal transmission by every device might require too long discovery period or too large resource for discovery. Above all, some discovery information might be lost due to several practical reasons and it may take substantial amount of time to obtain all the necessary information. In this paper, we propose a proximate-device-discovery method using partial discovery information in order to reduce the resource for discovery and support the cases in which some discovery information can be lost. We also discuss discovery probabilities with partial discovery information.

  • This experiment was conducted to find out the minimum size of pores through that Zeolite particles moved vertically out with percolated solution in the sand column and to estimate whether they were lost through the pores in the field sandy soil. The results were as follows. 1. The amount of Zeolite loss through sand columns was increased in the order of the columns filled with $2{\sim}1>1{\sim}0.5>0.5>0.25mm$ sand particles. 2. The Zeolite particles lost through columns filled with $1{\sim}0.5$ and $0.5{\sim}0.25mm$ sand were clay fraction. 3. The pore sire that clay fraction of Zeolite mineral could migrate through was determined to be above $150{\mu}m$ and Jangchon subsoil was presumed to have possibility of Zeolite loss in consideration of its pore size distribution. 4. The suitable particle size of Zeolite for application in sandy soil was presumed to be above $2{\mu}m$.
