Characterization of Human Foamy Virus Integrase Mutant (인간 포미바이러스 인테그라제 돌연변이의 특성)

  • Human foamy virus (HFV) integrase mediates integration of viral c-DNA into cellular DNA. In this process, HFV integrase recognizes its own viral DNA specifically and catalyzes insertion of viral c-DNA. In order to study catalytic domains and residues, three deletion mutants and two point mutants of HFV integrase were constructed and analyzed with respect to enzymatic activities. The C-terminal deletion mutant showed decreased enzymatic activities while the N-terminal deletion mutant lost the activities completely, indicating that the N-terminal domain is more important than the C-terminal domain in enzymatic reaction. The point mutants, in which an aspartic acid at the 164th position or a glutamic acid at the 200th position of the HFV integrase protein was changed to an alanine, lost the enzymatic activities completely. However, they were well complemented with other defective deletion mutants to recover enzymatic activities partially. Therefore, these results suggest that the aspartic acid and glutamic acid at the respective 164th and 200th positions are catalytic residues for enzymatic reaction.

Modification of Solid Models Independent of Design Features (디자인 피쳐에 의존하지 않는 솔리드 모델의 수정)

  • With the advancements of the Internet and CAD data translation techniques, more CAD models are transferred from a CAD system to another through the network and interoperability is getting a common word in the CAD industry. However, when a CAD model is translated for an incompatible system into a neutral format such as STEP or IGES, its precious feature information is lost. When this feature information is lost, the advantage of feature based modeling is not valid any longer, and modification for the model is purely dependent on geometric and topological manipulations. However, the capabilities of the existing methods to modify these feature-independent models are limited as the modification involves a topological change in the model. To address this issue, we present a volumetric method to modify the solid models in neutral format. First, this method selectively decomposes the solid model to separate the portion of interest called feature volume. Next, the designer modifies the feature volume without concerning a topological change. Finally, the feature volume is united with the original solid model to complete the modification process. The results of test cases are presented to attest the usefulness of the proposed method.

A Study on the Affecting Factors and Effects of Switching Costs in On-line shopping mall (온라인 쇼핑몰 전환비용의 영향 요인과 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Long-term customer retention strategies with switching cost is very important for gaining a competitive advantage in on-line shopping mall environment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the affecting factors of switching cost in terms of on-line shopping mall's quality and the effects of it on customers' behavior moderating commitment. According to the result, information quality and customized information were found to be significantly related to social switching cost, and also royalty program and product differentiation were found to be significantly related to lost benefit cost and procedural cost respectively. When it comes to the relationship between switching cost and commitment, results shows that social switching cost is not significantly related to affective commitment. Lost benefit cost and procedural cost, however, were found to be significantly related to affective commitment and calculative commitment respectively. Finally, affective commitment was found to bolster repurchase intention and control negative WOM, and calculative commitment was found to bolster both repurchase intention and negative WOM.

  • Dental clinicians often encounter cases wherein the patient's lost molar area was neglected and left untreated for an extended period of time, thereby causing the extrusion of opposite molars and occlusal disharmony as well as occlusion in the anterior teeth and consequently resulting in anterior displacement in the area. Clinicians normally carry out prosthetic treatment via occlusal plane lifting when such becomes absolutely necessary due to the lack of sufficient space needed for prosthetic therapy aimed at proper anterior and lateral induction. In this case report, we examined occlusal disharmony and VDO loss in a patient who had lost his molars and had not received prosthetic treatment for an extended period of time. We treated the maxillary area with dental implant prosthetics and Kennedy Class I RPD and the mandibular area with residual natural tooth-based implant placement and dental implant prosthetics. The patient reported treatment outcomes that were deemed satisfactory both functionally and aesthetically.

Effects of Different Restoration Practices on Nutrient Loss from Sediments after a Forest Fire in Two Watersheds

  • The loss of nitrogen and phosphorus from sediments in two watersheds, one naturally regenerating and one artificially planted, in Sacheon-myun, Gangneung-si, Gangwon Province, were measured two years after a forest fire in 2000. Sediment losses occurred five times in the course of the year. In the artificially planted watershed, $50{\sim}140$ times more nitrogen and $54{\sim}139$ times more phosphorus were lost with sediments during heavy rains, from July to August, than in the naturally regenerating watershed. When the typhoon Rusa struck the country, 1,389 times more nitrogen and 1,647 times more phosphorus were lost from the artificial watershed. In spite of the limited scope of this study, these results suggest that artificially planted watersheds are extremely vulnerable to catastrophic natural disasters such as typhoons. Elevated loss of nutrients in the artificially planted watershed might have resulted from the mechanized silvicultural practices employed immediately after the fire. To maximize soil preservation, the timing and necessity of plantation practices should be reconsidered, and rapidly regenerating vegetation should be protected to promote nutrient uptake and to mitigate nutrient loss from burned forests.

  • The interpolation of the missing AIS dynamic data can be used for predicting the lost data of the ship's state which is able to product the valuable information for analyzing and investigating the maritime accidents. The previous research proposed some interpolating methods however there exists some problem, firstly, the interpolated parameters such as COG, SOG, HDG weren't described sufficiently and accurately as in AIS message, secondly, each method is only suitable to some kinds of given AIS data, finally at heavy wind and current area, the parameters of AIS dynamic change quickly in short time, therefore, the modelling of the variation of ship's dynamic based on the physical characteristic is very difficult, in these cases the time-series and numerical method are usually better. This research proposes the other method through numerical analysis which can be suitable for many different kinds of the lost data, parameters are interpolated sufficiently, beside that this model is appropriate to all variation in short time interval. All the given AIS dynamic are regarded as the functions to time, then curves are established for fitting all data. Experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of this approach, the interpolation results show this approach can be applied well in practice.

Changes in Profiles of Major Proteins in Encysting Acanthamoeba castellanii

  • The life cycle of Acanthamoeba is comprised of two distinct stages, tropho-zoite and cyst. During periods of stress, trophozoites undergo cellular differentiation into cyst. In order to understand the cellular differentiation, ore followed changes in profiles of major proteins by 2D-PAGE and ubiqui-tinated proteins by immunoblotting with anti-ubiquitin (Ub) monoclonal antibody (mAb) as a probe. We observed 51 proteins present in trophozoite were lost with the encystment. We found that 43 proteins within 24 h, and 8 proteins in 96 h of encystment. Among them, 17 proteins were staine with anti-Ub mAb. In cysts, 16 proteins including 2 anti-Ub mAb-reactive proteins were newly synthesized. Four proteins were newly detected in 24 h-cyst and disappeared in 96 h-cyst, one protein was synthesized in 24-96 h-cyst and disappeared in 168 h-cyst, and 11 proteins appeared upon en-cystment and were present in all cyst stages. We identified a cyst specific 33 kDa protein as subtilisin-like serine proteinase by N-terminal sequencing. Identification of these proteins lost and newly synthesized with encystment would improve our understanding of cysting protozoan parasites.

  • This paper deals with the economic value analysis of meteorological forecasts for a hypothetical inventory decision-making situation in the pharmaceutical industry. The value of Asian dust (AD) forecasts is assessed in terms of the expected value of profits by using a decision tree, which is transformed from the specific payoff structure. The forecast user is assumed to determine the inventory level by considering base profit, inventory cost, and lost sales cost. We estimate the information value of AD forecasts by comparing the two cases of decision-making with or without the AD forecast. The proposed method is verified for the real data of AD forecasts and events in Seoul during the period 2004~2008. The results indicate that AD forecasts can provide the forecast users with benefits, which have various ranges of values according to the relative rate of inventory and lost sales cost.

  • As the amount of flash memory being used in embedded device is increased and embedded devices become more important in many computing environments, embedded file system security becomes more important issue. Moreover embedded devices can be easily stolen or lost because of it's high portability. If the lost embedded device has very important information, there's no means to protect it except data encryption. For improving embedded devices' security this paper propose design and implementation of flash cryptographic file system. For this purpose YAFFS is used. By the modified YAFFS cryptographic file system, the security of embedded devices can be improved.

Proposing a New Method for Calculating Reactive Power Service Charges using the Reactive Power Market

  • With the advent of electric power systems moving from a vertically integrated structure to a deregulated environment, calculating reactive power service charges has become a new and challenging theme for market operators. This paper examines various methods for reactive power management adopted throughout various deregulated foreign and domestic markets and then proposes an innovative method to calculate reactive power service charges using a reactive power market in a wholesale electricity market. The reactive power market is operated based on bids from the generating sources and it settles on uniform prices by running the reactive OPF programs of the day-ahead electricity market. The proposed method takes into account recovering not only the costs of installed capacity but also the lost opportunity costs incurred by reducing active power output to increase reactive power production. Based on the result of the reactive OPF program, the generators that produce reactive power within the obligatory range do not make payments whereas the generators producing reactive power beyond the obligatory range receive compensation by the price determined in the market. A numerical sample study is carried out to illustrate the processes and appropriateness of the proposed method.
