  • This paper suggests the harmonic effects on HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) power cable. HTS cable is regarded as not only one of the important countermeasure to supply high density power demand area, but also one of countermeasures greenhouse technology. However, with the development of digital society, the distribution line power is much contaminated with harmonics generated by various power electronic equipments. This paper describes how the HTS cable responds to the harmonic and increases AC losses caused by hysteresis phenomenon. EMTDC based harmonic simulation results are compared with AC loss measured values.

  • We measured the concentrations of air pollutants at several residential sites, roadside sites and industrial sites in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. And the concentration distributions of air pollutants were estimated by atmospheric dispersion model using air emissions data. Based on those results, we calculated environmental risk of air pollutants emitted in Iwate Prefecture. As a result, it was found that the surround of factories with high emissions and highly toxic chemicals and the roadsides were high risk area, benzo(a)pyrene, formaldehyde and ozone exceeded the $10^{-5}$ risk level. Moreover, we tried to use "Loss of life expectancy: LLE" for an index to explain those risk to general public intelligibly. The total LLE of the carcinogenic chemicals was about 8.6 hours. Moreover, LLE of ozone was about 9.2 hours. Ozone has a big influence compared with the carcinogenic chemicals.

  • A stochastic model for an inventory system in which depletion of stock takes place due to random demand as well as random loss of items is studied under the assumption that the intervals between successive unit demands, as well as those between successive unit losses, are independently and identically distributed random variables having negative exponential distribution with respective parameters. We have derived the steady state probability distribution of the net inventory level assuming negative exponential delivery time under the continuous review (S-1, S) inventory policy. Also we have derived the total expected cost expression and necessary conditions to be satisfied for an optimal solution.

  • It is widely recognised that changes in size and isolation of habitat patches have a negative impact on species richness and the distribution and persistence of populations. Thus, the aim of the research was to analyze the change, distribution and spatial characteristics of woodlands in an urban fringe landscape. The results indicated that there was a common trend of woodland loss across all landscape types while no new woodlands were established during 1976 and 2009. Small patches (less than 5 ha in size) were particularly vulnerable to and more likely to disappear due to human activities such as urbanisation. Changes in woodland cover were clearly observed between 1976 and 2009. Loss of many woodlands was caused by residential and infrastructural developments. As a result, woodlands were becoming smaller and more isolated. This trend probably had adverse effects on biodiversity. This woodland information can be used to identify the potential and specific needs for conservation planning in rapidly developing urban areas.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}(p-q{\geq}3)$, $q=rank(P_V)$ with a projection matrix $P_v$ under the quadratic loss, based on a sample $X_1$, $X_2$, ${\cdots}$, $X_n$. We find a James-Stein type decision rule which shrinks towards projection vector when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals and when the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-P_V{\theta}{\parallel}$ is restricted to a known interval, where $P_V$ is an idempotent and projection matrix and rank $(P_V)=q$. In this case, we characterize a minimal complete class within the class of James-Stein type decision rules. We also characterize the subclass of James-Stein type decision rules that dominate the sample mean.

  • Superconducting power cable is one of the most promising energy application of high-T$_{c}$ superconductors (HTS). A prototype HTS cable have been constructed multi-layer cable using Bi-2223 tape and tested. The AC transport losses under self field were investigated at 77K on the 19 filamentary tape and multi-layer HTS cables. And we carried out numerical analysis using bean model. The result shows that the total transport current of HTS cable in L$N_2$ was 475[A], and transport current passed through almost the outer layer (2-layer). Also, AC transport losses in outer layer of HTS cable was proportion to I$^2$ and higher than losses of inner layer. In case of Ip=Ic, calculated numerical loss density was concentrated on the edge of tape and most of loss density in cable was distributed outer layer more than inner layer. As magnetic distribution was concentrated on outer layer.r.

  • The evaluation of the temperature of the motor in operation is necessary for smaller and lighter design of motors and for the determination of insulation class. The exact loss distribution modelling is absolutely necessary for the enact evaluation of the temperature. We calculated the temperature exactly by considering the loss distribution dependent on temperature. The comparison between the calculated results and the experiments is performed to verify the validity of the analysis.

  • Partially magnetized capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) sources are investigated using a two-dimensional kinetic simulation code named EDIPIC-2D. A converging numerical solution was obtained for CCP with a 60 MHz power source, while properly capturing the dynamics of electrons and power absorption over a single RF period. The effects of magnetic fields with different orientations were evaluated. Axial magnetic fields caused changes in the spatial distribution of plasma density, affecting the loss channel. Transverse magnetic fields enhanced stochastic heating near the powered electrode, leading to an increase in plasma density while the significant E×B drift loss compensated for this rise.

  • The heat loss of a building within a wind flow field results from convection and natural ventilation. Loss from natural ventilation is much more than one from convection, and the former depends mostly on the pressure distribution at the building surface. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to calculate the pressure distribution and investigate flow phenomena, around the building with a rectangular shape in a two-dimensional turbulent flow field. The finite difference method, modelled upon the turbulence $k-\epsilon$ model, has been applied to the analysis. The results, followed by the changes of Reynolds numbers, inlet flow conditions, and building shapes, have been also obtained, respectively. Various results of the present numerical analysis coincide qualitatively well with earlier reported empirical results.

  • Multiple-harmonic electron cyclotron emissions, often known in the literature as the (n + 1∕2)fce emissions, are a common occurrence in the magnetosphere. These emissions are often interpreted in terms of the Bernstein mode instability driven by the electron loss cone velocity distribution function. Alternatively, they can be interpreted as quasi-thermal emission of electrostatic fluctuations in magnetized plasmas. The present paper carries out a one-dimensional relativistic electromagnetic particle-in-cell simulation and also employs a reduced quasi-linear kinetic theoretical analysis in order to compare against the simulation. It is found that the Bernstein mode instability is indeed excited by the loss cone distribution of electrons, but the saturation level of the electrostatic mode is quite low, and that the effects of instability on the electrons is rather minimal. This supports the interpretation of multiple-harmonic emission in the context of the spontaneous emission and reabsorption in quasi-thermal magnetized plasma in the magnetosphere.
