To search the minimum structural requirement of tricyclic isoxazole analogues (1~30) as new class potent antidepressant, thee-dimensional quanti- tative-structure relationship (3D-QSAR) models between substituents ($R_1{\sim}R_5$) of tricyclic isoxazoles and their antidepressant activity against medetomidine-induced loss of righting were performed and discussed quantitatively using comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indies analysis (CoMSIA) methods. The correlativity and predictability ($r^2$=0.484 and $q^2$=0.947) of CoMSIA-2 model were higher than those of the rest models. The inhibitory activity against medetomidine-induced loss of righting was dependent on electrostatic field (43.4%), hydrophobic field (35.3%), and steric field (21.2%) of tricyclic isoxazoles. From the CoMSIA-2 contour maps, it is predicted that the antidepressant activity of potent antidepressants against medetomidine-induced loss of righting will be able to increase by the substituents ($R_1{\sim}R_5$) which were in accord with CoMSIA field.
In this work, an aerothermodynamic calculation model for cooled axial flow turbine blades with trailing edge ejection is suggested and a mean line performance analysis of a turbine stage with nozzle cooling is carried out. A unique model regarding the interaction between coolant and main gas is proposed, while existing correlations are adopted to predict viscous loss and blade outflow angle. The interactions considered are the heat transfer from main gas to coolant and the temperature and pressure losses by the mixing of two streams due to the trailing edge coolant ejection. For a stator blade without ejection, trailing edge loss calculated by the trailing edge analysis is compared with that calculated by loss correlation. The effect of heat transfer effectiveness of coolant passage on the mixing loss is analyzed. For a model turbine stage with nozzle cooling, parametric analyses are carried out to investigate the effect of main design variables(coolant mass flow ratio, temperature and ejection area) on the stage performance.

As climate change and environmental pollution become one of the biggest global issues today, new renewable energy, especially solar photovoltaic (PV) system, is getting great attention as a sustainable energy source. However, initial investment cost of PV system is considerable, and thus, it is crucial to predict electricity generation accurately before installation of the system. This study analyzes the loss ratio of solar photovoltaic electricity generation from the actual PV system monitoring data to predict electricity generation more accurately in advance. This study is carried out with the following five steps: (i) Data collection of actual electricity generation from PV system and the related information; (ii) Calculation of simulation-based electricity generation; (iii) Comparative analysis between actual electricity generation and simulation-based electricity generation based on the seasonality; (iv) Stochastic approach by defining probability distribution of loss ratio between actual electricity generation and simulation-based electricity generation ; and (v) Case study by conducting Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS) based on the probability distribution function of loss ratio. The results of this study could be used (i) to estimate electricity generation from PV system more accurately before installation of the system, (ii) to establish the optimal maintenance strategy for the different application fields and the different season, and (iii) to conduct feasibility study on investment at the level of life cycle.
In order to investigate the analytical uncertainties associated with sampling and analysis of major greenhouse gaseous pollutants(carbon dioxide and methane), we attempted to quantify their adsorptive loss due to the contact with the container wall(such as Tedlar bag and vial). Using the GC/FID method, some basic experimental parameters(such as reproducibility and method detection limit) have been evaluated as part of the essential QA/QC The reproducibilities of carbon dioxide and methane were estimated as 2.02 and 0.2%, respectively. In addition, method detection limits were measured as 0.61 and 0.06 ng, respectively. A test of sample loss rate has also been made for Tedlar bag and vial by assessing the absolute amount of sample loss on the wall. By transferring the samples contained in Tedlar bag to various sizes of Tedlar bags, we measured differences in the absolute loss quantity due to such transfer. In addition, we also examined such loss mechanism as a function of elapsed time and light penetration rate for vial. As results, carbon dioxide and methane have shown about 2% of sample loss due to such contact. It is also noticed that the amount of loss with vial surface is lower than that of Tedlar bag. Therefore, field collection of greenhouse gases using various container types should be made more cautiously to minimize the possibility of sample loss and bias related to such loss.
The actual magnetic induction waveform of cores in electrical machines is not sinusoidal i.e. higher harmonics are always included. Thus the core loss in actual electrical machines is different from the core loss which is measured by the standard method, because the waveform of magnetic induction should be sinusoidal in the standard testing method. Core loss analysis under higher harmonic induction is always important in electric machine design. In this works we measured the core loss when a hysteresis loop has only one period of an ac minor loop of higher harmonic frequency, depending on the position of the ac minor loop of relative to the fundamental harmonic frequency. From this experiment, the core loss P(B/sub 0/f/sub 0/, B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/)) under a higher harmonic magnetic induction B/sub h/ could be expressed by the linear combination the core loss at fundamental harmonic frequency P/sub c/(B/sub 0/, f/sub 0/), the core loss of ac minor loop at zero induction region of the major hysteresis loop P/sub cL/ (B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/), and the core loss of an ac minor loop in the high induction region of the major hysteresis loop P/sub cH/ (B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/) i.e., P/sub c/, (B/sub 0/, f/sub 0/, B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/)=P/sub c/ (B/sub 0/, f/sub 0/,)+(n-1)[k₁(B/sub 0/) P/sub cL/ (B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/)+(1-k₁(B/sub 0/)) P/sub cH/ (B/sub h/, nf/sub 0/)]. This will be useful formula for electrical machine designers and one of effective methods to predict core loss including higher harmonic induction.
Basel II advanced measurement approaches for operational risk need to estimate the frequency and severity distribution of operational losses. Due to lack of internal loss data, the estimation is impossible in many cases and so external loss data might be used by scaling on asset or gross income. To get around lack of loss data, scenario analysis combined with loss distribution approach can be useful in calculating the capital charge of operational risk. However, scenario based loss distribution approach requires much time and effort. Instead we may apply the analytic hierarchy process to measure operational risk of financial institutions. The analytic hierarchy process combined with loss distribution approach is to estimate the capital charge of operational risk in other areas based on the operational VaR in an area with sufficient loss data. AHP provides a tool for timely measurement of operational risk in this rapidly changing global environment.
The authors analyzed harmonic current based loss of a high temperature superconducting (HTS) DC model cable. The loss in HTS DC cable is generated due to the variation of magnetic field caused by harmonic current in a HVDC transmission system. The authors designed and fabricated two meters of HTS DC model cable for verification of real loss characteristic. In this paper, the loss characteristics caused by harmonic current in the HTS DC model cable are analyzed using commercial finite element method software package. The loss of the HTS DC cable is much less than the loss of the HTS AC cable but the loss should be considered to decide a proper capacity of cooling system.
In this paper, the influence of inverter switching harmonics on iron loss and PM loss of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is numerically investigated by Finite Element Method (FEM). In particular, nonlinear FEM is applied for a multi-layered PM Synchronous Motors (PMSMs), Interior buried PMSM (IPMSM) and PM assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor (PMa-SynRM), which are adoptively designed and compared for Electric Vehicle (EV) propulsion. In particular, iron loss and PM eddy-current loss under the real current waveform including the carrier harmonics from inverter switching are numerically analyzed with nonlinear FEM by considering the skewed stator structure employed for minimizing spatial harmonics.
This paper introduces a simple core loss calculation method for output filter inductor in pulse width modulation (PWM) DC-AC inverter. Amorphous C-core (AMCC-320) is used to analyze the core loss. In order to measure core loss of the output filter inductor and validate the proposed method, a single-phase half-bridge inverter and a calorimeter are used. By changing switching frequency and modulation index (MI) of the inverter, core loss of the AMCC-320 is measured with the lab-made calorimeter and the results are compared with calculated core loss. The proposed method can be easily extended to other core loss calculation of various converters.
