The present study has tested most of loss models previously published in the open literature and found an optimum set of empirical loss models for a reliable performance prediction of centrifugal compressors. In order to improve the prediction of efficiency curves, this paper recommends a modified parasitic loss model. Predicted performance curves by the proposed optimum set agree fairly well with experimental data for a variety of centrifugal compressors. The prediction method developed through this study can serve as a tool for preliminary design and assist the understanding of the operational characteristics of general purpose centrifugal compressors.
The demand for multimedia service using Ka-band satellite communication are growing rapi이y. So, in this paper, we have analyzed rain attenuation with typical model, and proposed prediction model of rain attenuation in high frequency(over 20[GHz]). Path loss model by rain attenuation is based upon rain rate of representative region(6 cities). Proposed prediction model of rain attenuation and parameter of satellite link can be available for the Ka-band satellite communication.
This paper presents the d-q axis equivalent circuit model of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) which includes the iron loss resistance. The model is implemented to be able to run in real-time on the FPGA-based HIL simulator. Power electronic devices are removed from the motor control unit (MCU) and a separated controller is interfaced with the real-time simulated motor drive through a set of proper inputs and outputs. The inputs signals of the HIL simulation are the gate driver signals generated from the controller, and the outputs are the winding currents and resolver signals. This paper especially presents iron loss prediction which is introduced by means of comparing the torque calculated from d-q axis currents and the desired torque; and minimizing the torque difference. This prediction method has stable prediction algorithm to reduce torque difference at specific speed and load. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
This paper presents the result of the Water Erosion Prediction Project(WEPP) watershed scale model's application for prediction of sediment yield from a watershed which is comprised of hillslopes and channels and analyses of the soil loss from hillslopes and channels with crop practice and shape. To evaluate the model's application, the model is applied to a watershed that comprised of six hillslope and one channel, and the result was a good agreement with the observed values. The soil loss from hillslope was increased as the hills lope was under fallow conditions and slope length was longer. The soil loss from the channel was increased at the downstream for the concentration of flow.

Crop minimization of the top and bottom ends of hot rolled plate, in a plate, in a plate mill, has been investigated. The existing model to determine the edging pattern at the finishing rolling pass was not reasonable to get high width accuracy and rolling yields. New models including width prediction have been formulated by using neural network model of back propagation learning algorithm and statistical analysis based on the actual production rolling data to give the optimal pattern for minimizing trimming loss. Using these models, at a given rolling condition of broadside pass and finishing pass and the permissible condition of width variation, it was possible to minimize crip at the top and bottom ends according to optimum procedure in plate mill. An application to improve the plan view pattern reduced width variation by 23% and crop length by 30% on average with an effective fishtail crop shape.
The power loss of large-capacity systems using single-phase inverters has attracted considerable attention. In this study, optimal switching sequence model prediction control at a low switching frequency is proposed to reduce the power loss in a high-power inverter system, and a compensation method that can be utilized for model prediction control is developed to reduce errors in accordance with sampling values. When a three-level, single-phase inverter using a switching frequency of 600 Hz and a sampling frequency of 12 kHz is adopted, the power factor is improved from 0.95 to 0.99 through 3 kW active power control. The performance of the controller is also verified.
The purpose of this study was to estimate of soil loss form hillslope using WEPP(Water Erosion Prediction Project) model. WEPP model was developed for predicting soil erosion and deposition, fundamentally based on soil erosion prediction technology. The model for predicting sediment yields from single storms was applied to a tested watershed. Surface runoff is calculated by kinematic wave equation and infiltration is based on the Green and Ampt equation. Governing equations for sediment continuity, detachment, deposition, shear stress in rills, and transport capacity are presented. Tested watershed has an area of 0.6ha, where the runoff and sediment data were collected. The relative error between predicted and measured runoff was $-16.6{\sim}2.2%$, peak runoff was $-15.6{\sim}2.2%$ and soil loss was $-23.9{\sim}356.5%$.
In the present study, we studied the method of predicting the on-design and on-design point performance of axial flow fan with adjustable pitch blades. With the change of stagger angle of axial flow fan with adjustable pitch blade, flow rate and pressure can be changed. Because of this merit adjustable pitch fans are used in many industrial facility. When changing stagger angle or estimating the performance at a wide range of off-design condition, incidence angle changes greatly as the flow rate changes. Therefore, the deviation angle at the blade exit is estimated by the correlation considering the effects of blade design, incidence angle variation. In the loss model, we used known pressure loss model for blade boundary layer and wake, secondary flow, endwall boundary layer and tip leakage flow. The results of modified deviation angle model and experiment were compared for the usefulness of the modified model.
Sound transmission characteristics are investigated on the corrugated steel and aluminium extruded panels used for railway vehicles. Sewell-Sharp-Cremer(SSC) model, equivalent orthotropic plate model and equivalent mass law are applied to predict the sound transmission loss. The predicted values of the sound transmission loss are compared with the measured values. The reliability and the limitation of the prediction models are investigated. For the corrugated panels and honeycomb panels, the coincidence and local resonance severely deteriorate the sound insulation performance around the corresponding frequency bands. The result of the study shows that the equivalent orthotropic plate model and the SSC model can be used as good prediction models, if the coincidence frequency or local resonance frequency is correctly applied.
As the real-time multimedia applications through Internet increase, the bandwidth available to TCP connections is oppressed by the UDP traffic, result in the performance of overall system is extremely deteriorated. Therefore, developing a new transmission protocol is necessary. The TCP-friendly algorithm is an example meeting this necessity. The TCP-friendly (TFRC) is an UDP-based protocol that controls the transmission rate based on the available round transmission time (RTT) and the packet loss rate (PLR). In the data transmission processing, transmission rate is determined based on the conditions of the previous transmission period. If the one-step ahead predicted values of the control factors are available, the performance will be improved significantly. This paper proposes a prediction model of transmission rate control factors that will be used for the transmission rate control, which improves the performance of the networks. The model developed through this research is predicting one-step ahead variables of RTT and PLR. A multiplayer perceptron neural network is used as the prediction model and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used for the training. The values of RTT and PLR were collected using TFRC protocol in the real system. The obtained prediction model is validated using new data set and the results show that the obtained model predicts the factors accurately.
