A Combined Lookup Table and PI-type Controller for Temperature Control of Thermal Process

  • This paper presents a combined lookup table technique and PI-type controller. The purpose of the designed controller is applied to control the nonlinear system as thermal process. The proposed controller is easy and convenient to design based on a commercial controller. The performances of the proposed controller were studied using the thermal plant model under temperature control. The experimental results included demonstrate the good performance of the proposed controller.

QPSK 복조기를 위한 반송파 복구 회로 설계 (Design of Carrier Recovery Loop for QPSK Demodulator)

  • In order to resolve problems according to the phase error in QPSK demodulator of the digital communication systems. The demodulator requires carrier recovery loop which searches for the frequency and phase of the carrier. In this paper the complexity of implementation is reduced by the reduction into half of the number of the multiplier in filter structure of the conventional carrier recovery loop, and as the drawback of NCO of the conventional carrier recovery loop wastes a amount of power for the structure of lookup table , We designed the structure of combinational logic without the lookup table. In the comparison with dynamic power of the proposed NCO, the power of NCO with the lookup table is 175㎼, NCO with the proposed structure is 24.65㎼. As the result, it is recognized that about one eight of loss power is reduced. In the simulation of carrier recovery loop designed QPSK demodulator, it is known that the carrier phase is compensated.

  • The CORDIC algorithm can be implemented very simple H/W, but needs a lot of latency to compute trigonometric function. The RA(Redundant Arithmetic) resolves this problem, but also has difficulty to determine the directions of micro-rotations. The pre-computed direction of micro-rotation algorithm relieves the RA of this matter. In this paper, we proposed the modified the pre-computed algorithm adopted with a table-lookup. Instead of reducing H/W complexity, its performance and calculation errors are improved.

Finding Declinations Using Lookup Tables and Bilinear Interpolation in the Application of Digital Magnetic Compass

  • This paper describes Declination interpolation method in the application of Digital Magnetic Compass(DMC) with small capacity memory for relatively low-priced system. The purpose of this study is to find accurate declination values using Declination Lookup Table(DLT) and Secular Variation Table(SVT) with the Bilinear interpolation method having four points data only. World Magnetic Model with Gauss coefficients produced by NOAA is used in the calculation of DLT and SVT at desired years. To verify the applicability of the proposed method, the simulation tests and the error analysis are carried out in this work. As results from tests, the interpolation error is within 0.01 degree that is much enough to implement high accurate DMC comparing with commercial DMCs on the market. In summary, the declination interpolation method, proposed in this study, can be useful in the application of DMC.

  • This paper describes some field multiplication algorithm over GF($2^m$) on 8-bit processor. Through performance comparisons among algorithm, we show that our proposal is faster than existing algorithms. The proposed algorithm save 26.38% of running time compared with naive comb multiplication algorithm which is a kind of lookup-table (LUT) based algorithm. With the proposed algorithm, a scalar multiplication over GF($2^{163}$) can be computed within 1.04 secs on 8-bit MICAz sensor mote.

고속의 라우터를 위한 병렬 IP 주소 검색 기법 (A Parallel IP Address Lookup Scheme for High-Speed Routers)

  • 인터넷에서 IP 패킷을 목적지로 전달하는 라우터는 목적지의 주소에 따라서 다음 홉을 결정하는 IP 주소를 검색하는 과정을 수행한다. 패킷을 전달하는 과정에서 주소 검색은 고속의 라우터의 설계에 중요한 요인이다. 본 논문에서는 이미 하드웨어로 구현된 간접 IP 주소 검색 칩셋의 변경 없이 고속의 라우터의 설계를 위해서 여러 개의 검색 엔진으로 구성된 병렬 주소 검색 기법을 제안한다. 또한, 라우터 시스템 전체 포워딩 테이블에 존재하는 IP 프리픽스 엔트리를 각각의 검색 엔진에 분할하는 규칙을 제시한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 주소 검색 기법의 성능은 IP 프리픽스에 대한 포워딩 정보를 저장하는데 필요한 메모리의 양과 포워딩 테이블을 구성하기 위해 필요한 메모리 접근 횟수로 평가하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 기법은 한 개의 검색 엔진을 사용하였을 때에 비해서 네 개의 검색 엔진을 사용할 경우, 하드웨어 로직의 도움으로 약 35%의 메모리 양의 감소와 80%의 메모리 접근 횟수의 감소를 보여준다.

High Performance IP Address Lookup Using GPU

  • Increasing Internet traffic and forwarding table size need high performance IP address lookup engine which is a crucial function of routers. For finding the longest matching prefix, trie-based or its variant schemes have been widely researched in software-based IP lookup. As a software router, we enhance the IP address lookup engine using GPU which is a device widely used in high performance applications. We propose a data structure for multibit trie to exploit GPU hardware efficiently. Also, we devise a novel scheme that the root subtrie is loaded on Shared Memory which is specialized for fast access in GPU. Since the root subtrie is accessed on every IP address lookup, its fast access improves the lookup performance. By means of the performance evaluation, our implemented GPU-based lookup engine shows 17~23 times better performance than CPU-based engine. Also, the fast access technique for the root subtrie gives 10% more improvement.

IP 주소 검색에서 블룸 필터를 사용한 다중 해싱 구조 (Multiple Hashing Architecture using Bloom Filter for IP Address Lookup)

  • 라우터의 포워팅 성능을 향상시키기 위해 많은 IP 주소 검색 알고리즘들이 연구되어 오고 있다. 기존에 제안된 블룸 필터를 이용한 IP 주소 검색 구조는 프리픽스 길이별로 블룸 필터 및 해시 테이블을 따로 가지고 있어 구현이 복잡하며, 프리픽스 길이 별 해시 테이블의 개수를 줄이기 위하여 프리적스의 복사가 불가피한 단점을 지닌다. 멀티 다중 해시 테이블을 이용한 병렬 해싱 구조는 프리픽스의 길이별로 해시 테이블을 구성하고, 다중 해싱 함수를 사용하여 모든 프리픽스 길이에 대하여 병렬 검색하는 구조로서 검색 성능이 뛰어나나 병렬 검색 구조이므로 구현이 또한 복잡하다. 본 논문에서는 단일 블룸 필터에 다양한 길이의 프리픽스를 모두 저장하는 통합 블룸 필터와 단일 테이블에 모든 길이의 프리픽스를 모두 저장하는 통합 다중-해시 테이블을 사용하여 구현이 간단하면서도 검색성능이 뛰어난 새로운 IP 주소 검색 구조를 제안한다. 실제 백본 라우터에서 쓰이는 데이타를 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과 $15000{\sim}220000$개의 엔트리를 갖는 라우팅 테이블에 대하여 평균 1.04-1.17번의 메모리 접근으로 IP 주소검색이 가능함을 보였다.

4D Lookup Table Interpolating을 이용한 단위 전지 방전 시험 기반 열전지 성능 예측 (Performance Estimation Based on 4D Lookup Table Interpolating and Unit Cell Discharge Tests for Thermal Battery)

  • For comparison to the Li-ion battery, evaluating a thermal battery must consider additional variables. The first one is the temperature difference between the battery and its unit cell. Thermal batteries and their unit cells have a temperature difference that is caused by the thermal battery activation mechanism and its shape. The second variable is the electrochemical reaction steps. Most Li-ion batteries have a constant electrochemical reaction at the electrode, and battery voltage is affected when the concentration of Li ions is changed. However, a thermal battery has several steps in its electrochemical reaction, and each step has a different potential. In this study, we used unit cell discharge tests based on interpolating a 4D lookup table to estimate the performance of a thermal battery. From the test results, we derived an estimation algorithm by interpolating the table, which is queried from specified profile groups. As a result, we found less than a 5 percent difference between estimation and experiment at the 1.3 V cut-off time.
