  • The insulation performance of the insulation currently used in building structures is reflected only during design based on initial performance and the reduction in heat insulation performance due to the degradation of long-term durability is not reflected. This study reviewed the degradation of heat insulation performance due to the durability degradation of insulating materials through the accelerated durability test. The study findings showed that the foamed polystyrene insulation bead method did not show performance degradation due to aging in the standard environmental condition and laboratory accelerated test condition but the performance is degraded in the freeze-thaw test condition. On the other hand, in the case of the extrusion method, the degradation of the heat insulation performance was less in the freeze-thaw test condition, but the rapid performance degradation was caused by the release of the internal gas at the beginning of aging. In addition, the hard polyurethane foam insulation showed better initial insulation performance than other insulation materials, but the performance was found to be degraded somewhat under laboratory accelerated test conditions and freeze-thaw test conditions.

  • For the development of flow duration curves for the management of 41 Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) units of the Nakdong River basin, first, an equation for estimating daily flow rates as well as the level of correlation (correlation and determination coefficients) was extrapolated through regression analysis of discrete (Ministry of Environment) and continuous (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation) measurement data. The equation derived from the analysis was used to estimate daily flow rates in order to develop flow duration curves for each TMDL unit. By using the equation, the annual flow duration curves and flow curves, for the entire period and for each TMDL unit of the basin, were developed to be demonstrated in this research. Standard flow rates (abundant-, ordinary-, low- and drought flows) for major flow duration periods were calculated based on the annual flow duration curves. Then, the flow rates, based on percentile ranks of exceedance probabilities (5, 25, 50, 75, and 95%), were calculated according to the flow duration curves for the entire period and are suggested in this research. These results can be used for feasibility assessment of the set values of primary and secondary standard flow rates for each river system, which are derived from complicated models. In addition, they will also be useful for the process of implementing TMDL management, including evaluation of the target level of water purity based on load duration curves.

  • In 1995, the WTO started to ease the trade barriers. Globalization has accelerated. The opening of the agricultural products market is rapidly gaining momentum with the conclusion of an FTA. The acceleration of this FTA is expected to be a threat to Korea's agriculture, and a new strategy is needed. At the beginning of the nuclear accident, mainly radioactive materials are found in the surface layer of the soil. Over time, the concentration of the plant gradually increases. After 5 years, it becomes noticeable. In March 2016, it will be five years after the nuclear accident. Radioactive contamination is very likely to occur in agricultural products produced in the Fukushima area at this time. In this period, agricultural products produced in the Fukushima region are expected to generate supply disruptions in Japan, and imports to replace them will increase. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a mid- and long-term strategy for exporting to Japan by analyzing the competitiveness of Korean agricultural products. In this study, standardization index was derived by using agricultural price ratio, TSI, export CAC. Based on this, we analyzed the competitiveness of each item in the Japanese market. The analysis shows that garlic is the most competitive product in the Japanese market. Also, strawberry, tomato, and cucumber were found to be competitive. On the other hand, Kiwi, pineapple, soybean, onion, potato, etc. As a result of the analysis, the following strategies were proposed for the export of agricultural products with high competitiveness. First, it is necessary to develop technology to suppress deterioration of export transportation quality. Second, continuous supply of local consumption pattern information is required. Third, it is necessary to expand exports by processing fresh food. Fourth, it suggested the establishment of export base and strengthening of support system.

  • In this study, long-term rainfall data with irregular spatial distribution in Seoul, Korea, were separated into individual precipitation events by the inter-event time definition of 6 hours. Precipitation washout of $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ concentrations in the air considering various complex factors were analyzed quantitatively. Concentrations of $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ in the atmosphere were lower under condition of rainfall compared to that of non-precipitation, and a noticeable difference in average $PM_{10}$ concentrations was observed. The reduction of concentrations of $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ by rainfall monitored at road-side air monitoring sites was also lower than that of urban air monitoring sites due to continuous pollutant emissions by transportation sources. Meanwhile, a relatively smaller reduction of average $PM_{10}$ concentration in the atmosphere was observed under conditions of light rainfall below 1 mm, presumably because the impact of pollutant emission was higher than that of precipitation scavenging effect, whereas an obvious reduction of pollutants was shown under conditions of rainfall greater than 1 mm. A log-shaped regression equation was most suitable for the expression of pollutant reduction by precipitation amount. In urban areas, a lower correlation between precipitation and reduction of $NO_2$ concentration was also observed due to the mobile emission effect.

  • This study discusses the sustainable development of the compact city. The problems of urban sprawl have long been recognized. Urban sprawl results from the confluence of several factors: the lure of cheap open land outside the city, advances in transportation, the ready availability of capital to buy property, the increase in the number of real estate developers and the mass production of housing. The term compact city has the opposite connotation to urban sprawl. Compact cities provide a more energy efficient and less polluting environment, because dwellers within them live closer to shops and work and can easily walk, bike or take public transport. In other words, the compact city has the objective of facilitating the integration of the different functions through the intensive development of various facilities, such as residences, commerce, businesses and of improving the efficiency of urban energy usage by decreasing the volume of traffic.

  • This study is aimed at identifying the socio-economic effects of storage of ginger in artificial caves. The gingers stored in artificial caves in Seochun, 12 sampled areas, were surveyed to get information on the socio-economic effects. The surveyed data were processed by TSP, Qbasic and B/C Ratio computer programs and analyzed the decision making criteria such as B/C ratio, NPV and IRR. The socio-economic effects of the storages of the gingers are as follows. 1. The storage benefits per ton was showed as 184,050won. 2. Considering 10% of the opportunity cost of capital, the uper limits of investments for the cave storages was analyzed as 6,784 thousand won for ginger. 3. The investment of the natural cave storages was revealed economically feasible considering the decision making criteria as B/C ratio = 1.33, NPV = 35.059 thousand won and IRR = more than 100%. The other socio-economic effects of the ginger storages was expected as ; 1. The cave storages will contribute to increase consumer's and producer's welfare through the control of supply and demand and price stability. 2. Long-term storage of ginger without damaging quality and grades will be made on account of the storage conditions as relatively low temperature, high humidity and indifferent affects from the outside climate. 3. Utilization of the underground space, the caves, for storage will maximize the land use and the sustainable environment considering the mountainous area, two third of the total national land area. 4. Construction costs of the underground storage facilities as caves are cheaper than the ground storage facilities by 15 to 20% in general. In conclusion, the underground space like natural and artificial caves are considered the most suitable for storage of ginger on account of the storage conditions as temperature, humidity and blocking the sun light. Accordingly a study on convenient utilization of new development of artificial caves should be made considering transportation and input-output of the farms. Financial support of the government should be institutionally rearranged for the successful implementation of storing farm products like ginger in natural and man-made caves.

  • Since allowable settlement of concrete slab track is about 30mm, a lot of attention must be paid to the settlement of the earthwork (reinforced trackbed, upper subgrade, under subgrade) under the concrete track. To this end, more experimental data should be accumulated through tests for these materials. In this study, we evaluate the long-term settlement of reinforced trackbed and subgrade materials using factors such as repeated loading conditions, water content, and grain size distributions in a large triaxial test and a large oedometer test. In cases in which the performance of the reinforced trackbed layer meets the design criteria, the settlement caused by train load was considerably small. But, when the water content increases in the subgrade, unexpectedly large settlement might occur for certain grain size distributions of the subgrade materials.

  • The purpose of this paper is to offer policies or laws governing the future of Korean seafood markets in view of societal marketing concept. The environment surrounding those markets is changing quickly and constantly. The proposals in this paper are meant to help the Korean seafood market coping with this swiftly changing environment. This paper sorts this changing environment in terms of institutional side and secio-economical side. The institutional side involves the enforcement of international and domestic seafood trade standards, the increase of seafood importation, the adoption of optional seafood sales system, the openness of distribution market, and the adoption of TAC system. The secio-economical side involves the development of telecommunication and transportation, and the changing of seafood consumption pattern. The forecast about the future of seafood market could be classified into three fields, that is, the production field, the distribution field, and the consumption field of seafood. In the production field of seafood, the stabilization of supply of seafood and the production management oriented seafood market could be forecasted. In the distribution field, the formulating of enforced trade standards, the dispersion of marketing function among fisher, wholesaler and retailer, the development of marketing skills, and the promotion of marketing information system could be forecasted. Finally, in consumption field, the promotion of standardization and diversification, the appearance of intellectual consumers could be forecasted. This paper seeks to offer policies or laws fur the three categories of the seafood market-the government, the fisher, and the distributor-coping with the changing environment on the above three fields, thereby benefiting the consumer's long-term welfare. For the government, this paper suggests the construction of a Seafood Transaction Information Infrastructure, a Seafood Dealer License System, and a Seafood Safety Security System. For the fishers, this paper proposes an Eco-labelling System, a Sustainable Production System, and a Real Naming System in dealing seafood. Finally, for the distributors, this paper offers a Seafood Production Controlling System, a Nature-friendly Marketing System, and a Consumer-oriented Marketing System.

  • This study focused on the state that CMS(Content Management System) is not widely implemented in Korea and many companies lack a sense of the necessity. The author proceeded as follows. First of all, the definition of CMS was mentioned. Next, the history and current state of CMS in domestic and foreign nations were proposed. And the methodology and rationales were explained to use CMS effectively. The results may be summarized as follows. First, the appropriate design should be processed. Second, value-oriented management (not technology-oriented) should be aimed. Third, feedback by publicity and responses should be activated. When a content provider adopts CMS, the provider should take special care of long-term communications and trust building with non-technical users.
