Rainfall forecasting is an important issue that is applied in many areas, such as agriculture, flood warning, and water resources management. In this context, this study proposed a statistical and machine learning-based forecasting model for monthly rainfall. The Bayesian Gaussian process was chosen to optimize the hyperparameters of the Stacked Long Short-term memory (SLSTM) model. The proposed SLSTM model was applied for predicting monthly precipitation of Seoul station, South Korea. Data were retrieved from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) in the period between 1960 and 2019. Four schemes were examined in this study: (i) prediction with only rainfall; (ii) with deseasonalized rainfall; (iii) with rainfall and minimum temperature; (iv) with deseasonalized rainfall and minimum temperature. The error of predicted rainfall based on the root mean squared error (RMSE), 16-17 mm, is relatively small compared with the average monthly rainfall at Seoul station is 117mm. The results showed scheme (iv) gives the best prediction result. Therefore, this approach is more straightforward than the hydrological and hydraulic models, which request much more input data. The result indicated that a deep learning network could be applied successfully in the hydrology field. Overall, the proposed method is promising, given a good solution for rainfall prediction.
Vibration-based structural health monitoring is used to ensure the safety of structures by installing sensors in structures. The peak picking method, one of the applications of vibration-based structural health monitoring, is a method that analyze the dynamic characteristics of a structure using the peaks of the frequency response function. However, the results may vary depending on the person predicting the peak point; further, the method does not predict the exact peak point in the presence of noise. To overcome the limitations of the existing peak picking methods, this study proposes a new method to automate the modal analysis process by utilizing long short-term memory, a type of recurrent neural network. The method proposed in this study uses the time series data of the frequency response function directly as the input of the LSTM network. In addition, the proposed method improved the accuracy by using the phase as well as amplitude information of the frequency response function. Simulation experiments and lab-scale model experiments are performed to verify the performance of the LSTM network developed in this study. The result reported a modal assurance criterion of 0.8107, and it is expected that the dynamic characteristics of a civil structure can be predicted with high accuracy using data without experts.
The aerodynamic force is a significant component that influences the stability and safety of structures. It has unstable properties and depends on computer precision, making its long-term prediction challenging. Accurately estimating the aerodynamic traits of structures is critical for structural design and vibration control. This paper establishes an unsteady aerodynamic time series prediction model using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. The unsteady aerodynamic force under varied Reynolds number and angles of attack is predicted by the LSTM model. The input of the model is the aerodynamic coefficients of the 1 to n sample points and output is the aerodynamic coefficients of the n+1 sample point. The model is predicted by interpolation and extrapolation utilizing Unsteady Reynolds-average Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulation data of flow around a circular cylinder, square cylinder and airfoil. The results illustrate that the trajectories of the LSTM prediction results and URANS outcomes are largely consistent with time. The mean relative error between the forecast results and the original results is less than 6%. Therefore, our technique has a prospective application in unsteady aerodynamic force prediction of structures and can give technical assistance for engineering applications.
Solar photovoltaic can provide electrical energy with only radiation, and its use is expanding rapidly as a new energy source. This study predicts the short and long-term PV power generation using actual converter output data of photovoltaic system. The prediction algorithm uses multiple linear regression, support vector machine (SVM), and deep learning such as deep neural network (DNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). In addition, three models are used according to the input and output structure of the weather element. Long-term forecasts are made monthly, seasonally and annually, and short-term forecasts are made for 7 days. As a result, the deep learning network is better in prediction accuracy than multiple linear regression and SVM. In addition, LSTM, which is a better model for time series prediction than DNN, is somewhat superior in terms of prediction accuracy. The experiment results according to the input and output structure appear Model 2 has less error than Model 1, and Model 3 has less error than Model 2.
Linear polarization resistance (LPR) testing of soils has been used extensively by a number of water utilities across Australia for many years now to determine the condition of buried ferrous water mains. The LPR test itself is a relatively simple, inexpensive test that serves as a substitute for actual exhumation and physical inspection of buried water mains to determine corrosion losses. LPR testing results (and the corresponding pit depth estimates) in combination with proprietary pipe failure algorithms can provideauseful predictive tool in determiningthe current and future conditions of an asset. Anumber of LPR tests have been developed on soil by various researchers over the years1), but few have gained widespread commercial use, partly due to the difficulty in replicating the results. This author developed an electrochemical cell that was suitable for LPR soil testing and utilized this cell to test a series of soil samples obtained through an extensive program of field exhumations. The objective of this testing was to examine the relationship between short-term electrochemical testing and long-term in-situ corrosion of buried water mains, utilizing an LPR test that could be robustly replicated. Forty-one soil samples and related corrosion data were obtained from ad hoc condition assessments of buried water mains located throughout the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. Each sample was subjected to the electrochemical test developed by the author, and the resulting polarization data were compared with long-term pitting data obtained from each water main. The results of this testing program enabled the author to undertake a comprehensive review of the LPR technique as it is applied to soils and to examine whether correlations can be made between LPR testing results and long-term field corrosion.
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has been used to measure and monitor plant growth, vegetation cover, and biomass from multispectral satellite data. It is also a valuable index in forest applications, providing forest resource information. In this research, an approach for monitoring forest change using MODIS NDVI time series data is explored. NDVI difference-based approaches for a specific point in time have possible accuracy problems and are lacking in monitoring long-term forest cover change. It means that a multi-time NDVI pattern change needs to be considered. In this study, an efficient methodology to consider long-term NDVI pattern is suggested using a harmonic model. The suggested method reconstructs MODIS NDVI time series data through application of the harmonic model, which corrects missing and erroneous data. Then NDVI pattern is analyzed based on estimated values of the harmonic model. The suggested method was applied to 49 NDVI time series data from Aug. 21, 2009 to Sep. 6, 2011 and its usefulness was shown through an experiment.

In this study, we used artificial intelligence algorithms for the prediction of dissolved oxygen in Jindong Bay. To determine missing values in the observational data, we used the Bidirectional Recurrent Imputation for Time Series (BRITS) deep learning algorithm, Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), a widely used time series analysis method, and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep learning method were used to predict the dissolved oxygen. We also compared accuracy of ARIMA and LSTM. The missing values were determined with high accuracy by BRITS in the surface layer; however, the accuracy was low in the lower layers. The accuracy of BRITS was unstable due to the experimental conditions in the middle layer. In the middle and bottom layers, the LSTM model showed higher accuracy than the ARIMA model, whereas the ARIMA model showed superior performance in the surface layer.
The solar energy is purity and infinity. Solar power converter were used to convert the electrical energy from the solar arrays to a stable and reliable power source. So many countries research this solar energy system The photovoltaic system is construct many solar cell array. In this paper, new implementation solar system was showed buck converter that V-I curve produced. This system can be used to study the short-term and long-term performances of solar cell and efficiency. This system is a far more cost effective and reliable replacement for field and outdoor flight testing. Study of buck converter, analysis and control series or parallels connection characteristics of solar cell way.
This study aims at empirically verifying whether long memory properties exist in returns and volatility of the financial time series and then, empirically observing influential factors of long-memory properties. The presence of long memory properties in the financial time series is examined with the Hurst exponent. The Hurst exponent is measured by DFA(detrended fluctuation analysis). The empirical results are summarized as follows. First, the presence of significant long memory properties is not identified in return time series. But, in volatility time series, as the Hurst exponent has the high value on average, a strong presence of long memory properties is observed. Then, according to the results empirically confirming influential factors of long memory properties, as the Hurst exponent measured with volatility of residual returns filtered by GARCH(1, 1) model reflecting properties of volatility clustering has the level of $H{\approx}0.5$ on average, long memory properties presented in the data before filtering are no longer observed. That is, we positively find out that the observed long memory properties are considerably due to volatility clustering effect.

The aim at this study has the stochastic hydrological analysis for the annual mean discharge and monthly discharge which were observed at Lobith of River Rhine in the Netherlands from 1901 to 1972. After this study was analysed by computer IBM 370 and Hewlett Parkard 9800, the results were as follows; 1.When 72 data was divided into two groups of subsample data as 36 data, they do not have their properties to be non-homogeneous and inconsistent due to F-test and t-test. 2.The credit limits of the serial correlation coefficient was fluctuated $\pm$0. 231 which was shown in Fig. 3. at significant level 99% by Anderson's test. 3.The correlogram at short term was shown to be no short-term persistence as Fig. 3. 4.Since the correlogram at long term has displayed that Hurst's coefficient was 0.6144 between 0.6 and 0.7, it was to be no long-term persistence. 5.The stochastic model with annual discharge of this River Rhine was shown with $\chi$t=2195+483. 8 $\varepsilon$t as $\chi$t=$\mu$+oet and $\varepsilon$t=$_1$ø$\varepsilon$t-$_1$+ζt where t=1,2,3,..., ζt is an independent series with mean zero and variance (1-ø2), $\varepsilon$t is the dependent series, and 4' is the parameter of the model. 6.The serial correlation coefficient of monthly discharge was explained as $\chi$$_1$ = 0.34 . sin(6-$\pi$t+$\pi$) as Fig.4. and the River Rhine has no large fluctuation and smoothly changed during that time.
