  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceiver's social value, hair style, and hair color of object person on image perceptions. For social value variable, materialism and traditionalism were investigated. Subjects were 343 women in Seoul. Perceiver's materialism gave a significant influence on perception of elegance. The less materialistic group evaluated the hair style of object person more elegant than the more materialistic group. The more traditional group evaluated bright brown hairs less pretty than the less traditional group. This means that traditional people have less preferable image on bright brown hairs compared to the black and dark brown hair as it is different from Korean traditional hair color. Medium straight hair styles were evaluated lowest in preference and individuality. Short straight hairs were evaluated as the most elegant style and medium permanent hairs as the least elegant one. Long wavy hairs were evaluated highest in femininity, and straight hairs were evaluated lower in prettiness and activity than wavy hairs. The bright brown hairs were evaluated as the most individual color, and black was the least one. The bright brown was perceived lowest in elegance. Black and dark brown of the short straight hair style were perceived much more elegant than the bright brown of the same style, and black long wavy hairs were evaluated highest in femininity. The present findings provide that social value, hair style, and hair color are significant characteristics when perceiving women's image.

  • Expression of woman characters in fusion traditional dramas plays a role of making the progress of dramas not bigoted and new. Especially, woman characters have a high weight as a heroine by an increase in their image in fusion traditional dramas. Expression of characters harmonizing modern with tradition has also given a help in reflecting a trend of the present times. Hair style and face makeup of woman characters in fusion traditional dramas are in the process of fusionization getting an effect from postmodernism. They are expressing the hair style of symbolization modern elements of hair style to traditional hair styles. They also expressed a neutral image with faded hair styles in the shaggy cut style and dye of neoplaticism. Neo-hippie style was changed into the style of naturalism and nationalism and the hair style braided in various branches as the one of Indians was changed into a primitive and national feature. It is producing a new style by permitting even a long-hair permanent wave hair style. Expression of straight hair style, a long-hair shaggy & bulging wave style and a hair style of neoplaticism, was distinguished. In the side of face makeup, they expressed its luxurious and splendid style by attaching great importance to its luster and are exposing images of characters by a smoky makeup emphasizing eye lines. Their face makeup was almost never separated from present dramas as using pearl shadow in a glossy lips makeup and color, which made it possible to express it more dramatically in fusion traditional dramas than in present dramas. In the event of the makeup element of fusion traditional dramas permitting diversity, the character makeup of fusion traditional dramas made a foundation to show people diverse elements of makeup by mix & match a present elements and past elements of historical research, which made it possible to express a unique makeup or a special makeup. Diverse makeup expressions were limited by reflection of illumination even in the existing videos. Therefore, 'Fusion' made it possible to express it more freely in fusion traditional dramas than in present dramas.

  • An analysis method for the determination of methylendedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and its metabolite methylendedioxymethamphetamine (MDA) in hair by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was proposed. For MDMA and MDA analysis, hair samples were incubated in MeOH (1% HCl), derivatized with trifluoroacetic anhydride and assayed by GC/MS. Hair of 18 subjects for drug abuse was analyzed for MDMA and MDA. Calibration curves for the determination of MDMA and MDA in hair showed a good linearity at a concentration range from 0.5 ng to 250 ng ($r^2$=0.999) The extraction recovery was determined from hair blanks at 50, 100 ng. The percentage of recovery were found to be 96.08∼103.48 with CV value of 1.62∼3.89. The concentrations of MDMA and MDA ranged 1.14∼38.06 ng/mg and 0.07∼3.91 ng/mg, respectively in 18 hair samples from MDMA abusers. The ratio of MDMA to MDA ranged from 9.65∼28.46 in all specimen. Hair analysis for MDMA is a useful method for identification of long-term drug abuser.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences and interaction effects in impression formation according to eyeglasses, earrings, hair length, and clothing color worn by woman in Her 20s. A quasi-experimental method was used for this study. The experimental design was a $3{\times}2{\times}2{\times}4$(eyeglasses${\times}$earrings${\times}$hair length${\times}$clothing color) factorial design. The model of stimulus photographs was a woman with an oval shape face in her late twenties. She wore a tailored collared jacket with a white dress shirt. The subjects were 362 female college students. First, the women wearing glasses were found to be more potent but gave more negative impressions in terms of loveliness, politeness, and attractiveness than the women without glasses. Second, the women wearing earrings were perceived to have higher individuality, attractiveness, potency, loveliness, and elegance than the women without earrings. Third, the women with short hair were evaluated to have higher individuality, potency, and elegance, and to have lower loveliness, politeness, and attractiveness than the women with long hair. Fourth, the red clothes were perceived to have the higher individuality, loveliness, and attractiveness than the dark red or grey clothes. The light grey clothes were considered as the most elegant and the dark grey clothes were shown to have low attractiveness. Fifth, the women wearing the horn-rimmed glasses with short hair were evaluated to have high individuality. The women wearing glasses with short hair were evaluated lower in loveliness than those with long hair. The women with short hair, wearing glasses without earrings were evaluated very low in attractiveness.

  • Shaping realistic hairstyles for digital characters is a difficult, long and tedious task. The lack of appropriate interaction metaphors enabling efficient and simple, yet accurate hair modeling further aggravates the situation. This paper presents 3D interaction metaphors for modeling virtual hair using haptic interfaces. We discuss user tasks, ergonomic aspects, as well as haptics-based styling and fine-tuning tools on an experimental prototype. In order to achieve faster haptic rates with respect to the hair simulation and obtain a transparent rendering, we adapt our simulation models to comply with the specific requirements of haptic hairstyling actions and decouple the simulation of the hair strand dynamics from the haptic rendering while relying on the same physiochemical hair constants. Besides the direct use of the discussed interaction metaphors in the 3D modeling area, the presented results have further application potential in hair modeling facilities for the entertainment industry and the cosmetic sciences.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hair-style (straight and wave), hair-length(short, medium, and long), and type of hat design (no-hat, beret, cloche, bowler, and capeline) on impression formation. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The 7-point semantic differential response scales were designed. Thirty stimuli color pictures of various combination of hair length, hair style, and type of hat design were manipulated by computer drawing. The subjects were 360 undergraduates living in Seoul, Kyunggi and Kyungnam. The experimental design was composed of 3 factorial designs. The result of the study can be summarized as follows; Impression factor of the stimulus consisted of the 5 different dimensions (attractiveness, gracefulness, activity, concentration of attention, cuteness). Hair style greatly affected gracefulness. On the other hand, hair length made remarkable effects on attractiveness, concentration of attention, and cuteness. In addition, it has been found that the type of hat design significantly influenced on all the factors except attractiveness as independent variables. In regarding the effect of interaction between each variable, the combination of hair style and hair length had significant effects on gracefulness. In the impression formation of cuteness, the combination of hair length and type of hat design were more significant.
