An Empirical Study on the Logistics Barriers of Three Countries in Northeast Asia

  • Purpose - This research focuses on the analysis of logistics barriers in Korea, China and Japan facing the barriers of overseas-expanded manufacturers with other countries. With the tree countries are emerging as the biggest trade partners in Northeast Asia, their logistics barriers are applied with similar verification methods of preceding researches such as Carter(1997). Research design, data and methodology - Collecting the statistics data from the three countries' overseas-expanded manufacturers, t-verification was performed in order to analyze average value and verify any significance. Additionally, multiple regression analysis was used to analyze any influence on the relationship in Korean logistics barrier and Chinese and Japanese expansion to Korean market. Results - Statistics suggested that three countries' logistics barriers are significantly differentiated by each verification categories, and Korean barrier negatively affected Chinese and Japanese manufacturers coming into Korean market. Conclusions - As a result of multiple regression analysis of the influencing relationship between Korea's logistics barrier and Chinese and Japanese companies coming into Korean market, all of the Korean barriers are affecting the companies as an obstructive factor, and it is proved to be statistically meaningful. Therefore, in order to reduce Chinese and Japanese companies' cost burden, it is necessary that not only reasonable charge system and taxation support but also comprehensive measure establishment reduce Korea's logistics barriers. However, since this research has a limitation in samples and shows a period of 5 years in the three nations' trade barriers, continuous and complementary researches are necessary in order to develop certain objectivity.

  • Over the past decades the concept of Third-Party Logistics(TPL) has generated considerable interest in American and European industries. It involves outsourcing logistics activities that have traditionally been performed within an organization. The functions performed by the third-party logistics can encompass the entire logistics process or, more commonly, selected activities with that process. Increasing corporate emphasis on such concepts as reengineering and supply chain management has led many companies to consider the use of such third-party logistics. This study examines the possibility of applying existing American research of the third-party logistics to Korean companies and investigates the criteria for the use of third-party logistics in Korea. To design the model and generate the hypotheses, this study conducted a comprehensive literature survey on the third-party logistics. To test the hypotheses, this study collected data from 229 companies from the public companies in Korea through a questionnaire survey and conducted descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS for Windows Ver. 7.5 package. This study is hoped that it may contribute to the understanding and introducing of the third-party logistics in the fields of the firms. But there were some restrictions that the respondents were not covered all kinds of firms. These and other major findings from this study imply that existing American studies may be applicable the Korean companies and that this study may complement the deficiencies of the existing studies. Thus, the summary of the literature review, the research model and hypotheses, and empirical findings in this study will provide useful ideas for future research and deep insights for successful logistics management.

스마트폰 구매 시 이동통신사 선정에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석 (The Analysis of the Factors Influencing Telecommunication Service Providers Selection on Purchase of Smart Phones)

  • 스마트폰은 우리의 생활에 필수적인 상품으로 자리잡았다. 기술이 개발되고 이동통신 시장이 포화상태로 접어듬에 따라, 고객이 스마트폰을 구매하는데 있어서 이동통신사 선정 요인을 이해하는 것은 중요해졌다. 이러한 선정요인을 파악하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 요인 분석과, 이항 로지스틱스 회귀분석을 사용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서는 우선 이동통신사 선정에 영향을 미치는 요인을 기존의 연구문헌을 참고하여 고객만족, 전환장벽, 전환유인의 3가지 범주로 구분하였다. 본 논문에서는 이 주제와 관련한 9가지의 가설을 제시하고 수집된 설문데이터에 대하여 요인 분석 및 이항 로지스틱스 회귀분석을 이용하여 가설을 검정하고자 하였다, 분석결과 데이터품질, 요금만족도, 기업이미지, 신규계약부담, 단말기 유인, 타사업자 매력의 6가지 요인이 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다.

수출기업과 물류기업의 역량이 수출성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Logistics and Export Firm's Competitiveness on Export Performance)

  • 세계경제가 글로벌화 되면서 무역의 중요성은 점점 커져가고 있다. 특히, 우리나라 경제에 있어 무역은 매우 중요한 부분이다. 이러한 무역의 경쟁력을 개선하고 수출성과에 중요한 영향을 미치는 요인 중 하나는 물류기업의 역량과 자원이다. 하지만 대부분의 연구들은 물류기업의 역량이 수출성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해서는 연구가 부족했었다. 이에, 물류기업의 역량이 수출성과 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 이를 위해서 조절회귀분석을 통해 물류기업의 역량이 조절효과를 가지는지 분석하였다. 연구결과, 물류기업이 보유한 자원수준이 높을수록 수출기업의 해외지향성과 수출성과 간의 정(+)의 관계를 더욱 강하게 해주는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 물류기업이 보유한 자원수준이 조절변수로서의 역할을 하고 있음을 보여 주었다. 그리고 물류기업이 수출제조기업을 위해 제공하고 있는 물류서비스역량이 수출기업이 가진 역량과 시너지 효과를 내는 것으로 나타났다. 물류기업이 제공하는 양질의 서비스가 수출기업의 역량과 수출성과와의 정(+)의 관계를 더욱더 강하게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 결국, 물류기업과 수출기업 모두, 물류서비스와 물류기업의 자원이 수출기업의 역량과 함께 수출성과에 매우 중요한 요인임을 인식할 필요가 있다.

물류성과지표가 우리나라 수출입 물동량에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Logistics Performance Index on Korea's Import and Export Cargo)

  • This study aims to investigate the relationship between cargo volume and logistics performance index published by World Bank which indicate countries' logistics performance. In this study, the results were derived through panel regression analysis consisting of variables such as gross domestic product, geographical distance, population, and LPI using container export/import volume and bulk export/import volume as dependent variables. As a result of the empirical analysis, it was found that Korea's container volume was affected by the overall level of logistics, in particular, was deeply related to the logistics infrastructure, while bulk volume was not related to the logistics level or was less influential.

  • This study probes the necessity of establishing a logistic free zone in Port of Busan. It considers the economic effects of establishing the logistic free zone of Busan Port, and suggests policy prescriptions for introducing the free zone system and improving the logistics functions of Busan Port. Using input-output table data, the regression analysis was able to provide a quantitative prediction on effects of making the Busan Port a tariff-free zone. Influence for the regional economy due to the enforcement of the free zone system this research found that a strong positive effects should be expected on the Busan regional economy once the logistic free zone would be set up at the Port of Busan. The positive economic effects on Busan regional industries might be further strengthened if the value-added logistics function of Busan Port could be supplemented by linking to the hinterland of Busan Port.

Factors Affecting Logistics Capabilities for Logistics Service Providers: A Case Study in Vietnam

  • This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting Logistics capabilities for Logistics Service Providers in Vietnam. Researchers inherited and developed based on previous research to focus on analyzing and evaluating dynamics, measuring Logistics capabilities, and the factors affecting Logistics capabilities for Logistics Service Providers. The logistics capabilities Model is used based on three factors: customer demand management capability, innovation capability, and information management capability. The empirical analysis used data from the survey data of l90 managers of Logistics Service Providers in Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Hanoi with reliable tools (SPSS 26.0 software). The data were analyzed by frequencies, percentages, means, Pearson's Linear Correlation Coefficient, exploratory factor analysis, and multi-linear regression model based on the survey data. The research results identified the following factors affecting Logistics capabilities for Logistics Service Providers: innovation capability has the strongest impact on Logistics capabilities; customer demand management capability has the following strong effects on Logistics capabilities; and finally, information management capability that affects Logistics capabilities. There is also a positive relationship between all factors and Logistics capabilities. Several recommendations are further suggested to enhance to improve Logistics capabilities for Logistics Service Providers in Vietnam.

  • This paper presents an aspect-oriented approach to simulation design and analysis in system design phase for integrated logistics system simulation. The integrated logistics system composed of AS/RS (Automated Storages and Retrieval System), AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicle System), STVs (Sorting Transfer Vehicle System) and Conveyor System is designed by using the aspect-oriented approach and UML (Unified Modeling Language). The multi-factorial design of experiments and regression analysis are used for design parameters of the system and Evolution Strategies is used to verify each parameter. Aspect-oriented approach for the integrated logistics system simulation shows the advantages of code reusability, extendible, modulation, easy improvement and a better design technique.

Performance Improvement of Freight Logistics Hub Selection in Thailand by Coordinated Simulation and AHP

  • This paper presents a two-phase quantitative framework to aid the decision making process for effective selection of an efficient freight logistics hub from 8 alternatives in Thailand on the North-South economic corridor. Phase 1 employs both multiple regression and Pearson Feature selection to find the important criteria, as defined by logistics hub score, and to reduce number of criteria by eliminating the less important criteria. The result of Pearson Feature selection indicated that only 5 of 15 criteria affected the logistics hub score. Moreover, Genetic Algorithm (GA) was constructed from original 15 criteria data set to find the relationship between logistics criteria and freight logistics hub score. As a result, the statistical tools are provided the same 5 important criteria, affecting logistics hub score from GA, and data mining tool. Phase 2 performs the fuzzy stochastic AHP analysis with the five important criteria. This approach could help to gain insight into how the imprecision in judgment ratios may affect their alternatives toward the best solution and how the best alternative may be identified with certain confidence. The main objective of the paper is to find the best alternative for selecting freight logistics hub under proper criteria. The experimental results show that by using this approach, Chiang Mai province is the best place with the confidence interval 95%.

Critical Factors Affecting the Choice of Logistics Service Provider: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

  • The trend of globalization leads an increased need for international freight transportation and accelerates the development of the international logistics industry. The objective of this paper is to identify the critical factors that affect the choice of logistics service provider (LSP). The data sample was collected through a questionnaire, responded by 218 companies that outsource logistics services. The analysis uses descriptive statistics; exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and regression analysis were conducted with SPSS. The role of capabilities, customer service, and company reputation were evaluated and tested. Our findings show that capabilities and customer service have a considerable impact on the choice of LSP. The findings also indicate that company reputation do not have significant impact on the choice of LSP. They also showed that the capabilities is the variable that has the most significant effect on the choice of LSP. An implication of this study is that the competition should not only focus on pricing, but should be extended to improving enterprises capabilities, i.e., upgrading human resources, modernizing the modes of transportation, expanding business geographically and developing new technologies. Our study provides LSP managers with insights into how to meet customer expectations in the competitive logistics service sector.
