  • The traditional four-step demand model has limits in that it cannot reasonably reflect the logistic characteristics of freight transportation system. This is likely to cause problems when estimating the effects of logistics facilities. In order to enhance the reliability and availability of the freight demand estimation procedure it is needed to develop freight demand model which takes into account the logistic characteristics of firms. In the late 1990s, a number of researches on freight demand model considering logistics behaviors began in Europe while a few studies in the area have been conducted recently in Korea. This paper reviews recent advances of the freight model developments in the context of logistic behavior consideration. The main topics include 1) commodity classification, 2) P/C(Production- Consumption) estimation, 3) logistics network representation, 4) logistics chain model, and 5) commodity flow survey. In addition, this paper proposes future direction of the freight demand models with respect to the consideration of logistics characteristics.

  • This research explores and develops digital transformation factors influencing the logistics service-provider sector in Thailand while also examining the impact sustainability factors associated with digital transformation. Divided into two parts, Part one of the theoretical study framework covers 21 factors relating to logistics, including drivers, objectives, implications, and success factors. The second part concerns 23 factors associated with logistics sustainability, including economic, environmental, and social aspects. This quantitative empirical research was conducted using an online questionnaire instrument, and a structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used to test the proposed model. The findings from 545 samples collected between August and November 2020 from respondents working in logistics service-provider companies in Thailand show that digital transformation drivers and objectives seem likely to impact success factors and implications in digital transformation positively. Digital transformation success factors also positively impact logistics sustainability. In comparison, logistics sustainability has a significant impact on Thailand's logistics service-provider sector's economic, environmental, and social aspects. Lastly, this research highlights the significance of digital transformation success factors and extends the current knowledge about digital transformation factors and their potential impact on logistics sustainability.

  • A cold chain logistics (CCL) model for chilled food (-1℃ to 8℃) distributed in China was developed in this study. The CCL model consists of a distribution center (DC) and distribution target points (DT). The objective function of the CCL model is to minimize the total distribution routes of all distributors. To find the optimal result of the objective function, the hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) approach is proposed. The HGA approach was constructed by combining the improved K-means and genetic algorithm (GA) approaches. In the case study, three scenarios were considered for the CCL model based on the distribution routes and the available distance, and they were solved using the proposed HGA approach. Analysis results showed that the distribution costs and mileage were reduced by approximately 19%, 20% and 16% when the proposed HGA approach was used.

  • It is an element certainly required for the cost reduction of a company that forward and reverse logistics chain are unified and constitutes a resource closed-loop supply chain (CLSC). In this study, the inventory control which unifies inventory of distribution centers (DCs) of forward logistics and processing center of reverse logistics in the CLSC environment is proposed. The inventory system model for newly-constructed CLSC considers the JIT(Just-In-Time) delivery from the processing center to the manufacturer, including the making of decisions on whether to wait for the arrival of end-of-life products or to back-order necessary products for manufacturer when the supply of end-of-life products at the processing center via the returning center is insufficient for the demands of the manufacturers. The validity of the proposed model was verified using the genetic algorithm (GA). In order that a parameter might investigate the effect which it has on a solution, the simulation was carried out for priGA(priority-based GA) on three kinds of parameter conditions. Moreover, mhGA(modified hybrid GA) to which a parameter is adjusted for every Study on Reducing Logistics Costs and Inventory Control System according to facilities integration in the Closed-Loop Supply Chain Environment generation, the simulation was carried out to a four-kind numerical example.

  • As today's business environment has become more and more competitive, forward as well as backward flows of products among members belonging to a supply chain have been increased. The backward flows of products, which are common in most industries, result from increasing amount of products that are returned, recalled, or need to be repaired. Effective management for the backward flows of products has become an important issue for businesses because of opportunities for simultaneously enhancing profitability and customer satisfaction from returned products. Since third party logistics service providers (3PLs) are playing an important role in reverse logistics operations, they should perform two simultaneous logistics operations for a number of different clients who want to improve their logistics operations for both forward and reverse flows. In this case, distribution networks have been independently designed with respect to either forward or backward flows so far. This paper proposes a mixed integer programming model for the design of network integrating both forward and reverse logistics. Since the network design problem belongs to a class of NP-hard problems, we present an efficient heuristic algorithm based on genetic algorithm (GA), of which the performance is compared to the lower bound by Lagrangian relaxation. Finally, the validity of proposed algorithm is tested using numerical examples.

  • The development of technology related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the growth of the online market due to pandemic are continuing the growth of the logistics market for product delivery. If it is difficult to deliver the product directly to the customer during delivery, storage and delivery using the unmanned courier box are being carried out. However, existing storage boxes are not actively used due to lack of usability even though they have the advantage of storing goods and delivering non-face-to-face. In addition, existing courier boxes are not prepared for cold chain transportation. The unmanned delivery storage device with ICT cold chain technology should be developed to prepare for the transition to non-face-to-face society, to improve logistics efficiency and meet user's requirements. Also, it is necessary to consider the measures to reduce the safety problems that may occur during the use and maintenance of the automatic system. This study conducted a model-based analysis for the development of unmanned delivery storage devices with ICT cold chain technology, and conducted a study to derive the system development specifications that meet the requirements and secure safety and apply them to the development process.
