  • In this paper, we propose the development of a smart space security device that can be opened and closed remotely using IoT. Existing space security devices can control opening and closing by breaking hardware or only using button devices or replicated keys. The recent COVID-19 crisis has created several applications for non-contact devices. In this study, we propose the development of a small space security device that has the function of unlocking through an app without touching the device. By transferring the control authority to a smartphone, device that cannot be opened or closed by only operating hardware at the user's option. It is convenient and hygienic because it can be opened and closed using an app without touching the locking device. Multiple security is possible because security can be released using an app after user authentication by fingerprint recognition and pattern input on a smartphone. If the user wishes, after using the app security, the security is released by directly touching a button installed in the safe or space or opening it with a key. In addition, by adding an inactive function to the app, it is designed so that the door of the safe cannot be opened when the key is lost or the small safe is lost. This study is expected to be able to effectively expand the security system by applying variously to objects that require security.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to develop a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device, and to conduct a feasibility test. Design: A technical note. Methods and results: In this study, we developed a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. The sit-to-stand transfer assistive device allows the user to transfer the weight from a sitting position to a standing position while shifting the weight forward by grabbing and pulling a support stand. Ten healthy adults participated in the feasibility test of the device. Each participant used the developed sit-to-stand transfer assistive device and investigated supplementation through a brief interview. As a result of the feasibility test, the opinion was that the device could assist the sit-to-stand transfer to some extent. There were opinions that it needed a function to adjust the height of the knee protective plate in the sitting position according to the user's physical characteristics. Because of the inconvenience of operating the lock device for fixing the position and adjusting inclination, there was an opinion that the improvement for a locking device is needed. There were opinions that it would be better to reduce the size of the device due to its inconvenience of portability. Conclusion: In this study, we developed the sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. In addition, it is considered that the upgrade of the device is necessary for the future since there are supplementary opinions on some points.

  • In this paper, we present the design of Q-band LC VCO and injection locking buffer for 77 GHz automotive radar sensor using 130 nm RF CMOS process. To improve the phase noise characteristic of LC tank, the transmission line is used. The negative resistance by the active device cross-coupled pair of buffer is used for high output power, with or without oscillation of buffer. The measured phase noise is -102 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency and tuning range is 34.53~35.07 GHz. The output power is higher than 4.1 dBm over entire tuning range. The fabricated chip size is $510{\times}130\;um^2$. The power consumption of LC VCO is 10.8 mW and injection locking buffer is 50.4 mW from 1.2 V supply.

  • Measuring magnetic fields with a SQUID sensor always requires preliminary adjustments such as optimum bas current determination and flux-locking point search. A conventional magnetoencephalography (MEG) system consists of several dozens of sensors and we should condition each sensor one by one for an experiment. This timeconsuming job is not only cumbersome but also impractical for the common use in hospital. We had developed a serial port communication protocol between SQUID sensor controllers and a personal computer in order to control the sensors. However, theserial-bus-based control is too slow for adjusting all the sensors with a sufficient accuracy in a reasonable time. In this work, we introduce programmatic control sequence that saves the number of the control pulse arrays. The sequence separates into two stages. The first stage is a function for searching flux-locking points of the sensors and the other stage is for determining the optimum bias current that operates a sensor in a minimum noise level Generally, the optimum bias current for a SQUID sensor depends on the manufactured structure, so that it will not easily change about. Therefore, we can reduce the time for the optimum bias current determination by using the saved values that have been measured once by the second stage sequence. Applying the first stage sequence to a practical use, it has taken about 2-3 minutes to perform the flux-locking for our 37-channel SQUID magnetometer system.

  • An actuator latch device of a hard disk drive is installed for locking an actuator to hold a magnetic head parked in a parking zone. Applying an external force to the drive, the head can move away from the parking zone and destroy data on the disk. A magnet latching mechanism is used to prevent the actuator from moving when the computer is not in use. A permanent magnet holds the actuator when the head is in the parking zone. When the computer is turned on, the actuator has to overcome the latch magnet in order to move. A stronger latch magnet will hold the actuator adequately, but the actuator will not be released when unlocking is required. A breakthrough solution is needed to improve the reliability of the drive without any deterioration of its performance. In order to obtain the idea for resolving this technical contradiction, we analyse patents for actuator latch device of a hard disk drive. A practical way for solving contradictions in product development using TRIZ is proposed in this paper.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate displacement of the mandibular condyle after orthognathic surgery using a condylar-repositioning device. Methods: The patient group comprised 20 adults who underwent bimaxillary surgery between August 2008 and July 2011. The degree of condylar displacement was measured by pre- and postoperative tomographic analysis using centric relation bite and a wire during surgery. A sur vey assessing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sound, pain, and locking was performed. The 20 tomographs and surveys were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and McNemar's test, respectively. Results: No significant changes were observed in the anterior, superior, or posterior joint space of the TMJ (p > 0.05). In addition, no significant change was observed in TMJ sound (p > 0.05). However, TMJ pain and locking both decreased significantly after surgery (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Due to its simplicity, this method may be fea sible and useful for repositioning condyles.

  • This study was performed to clarify the mechanism of clicking sound and locking on temporomandibular joint and to determine the radiographic findings of them by using computed tomogram. Through the preliminary study with cadavers, the proper scanning condition and the correlatonship between the anatomy of cadaver and computed tomogram had been determined. The subjects were consisted of 10 controls and 16 patients having clicking sound or locking on temporomandibular joint. By using Hitachi-W500 as computed tomographic device, direct axial views and sagittal views reformed according to the changes in window setting and using the non-linear fraction were taken and analyzed by visual method and measuring the attenuation numbers. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The density of the anterior band of meniscus showed isodense to the surrounding muscles in normal. 2. In patient group, affected side showed increased radiopaque area anterior to condyle and underneath articular eminence as the feature of anteriorly displaced meniscus on axial and sagittal views. 3. In patient group, the condyle was rotated postero-laterally in affected side. 4. Non-linear fraction highlightened the feature of anteriorly displaced meniscus.

  • We have developed a wearable device that can convert sensor data into real-time step counts and activity levels. Sensor data on gait were acquired using a triaxial accelerometer. A test was performed according to a test protocol for different walking speeds, e.g., slow walking, walking, fast walking, slow running, running, and fast running. Each test was carried out for 36 min on a treadmill with the participant wearing a portable gas analyzer (K4B2), an Actical device, and the device developed in this study. The signal vector magnitude (SVM) was used to process the X, Y, and Z values output by the triaxial accelerometer into one representative value. In addition, for accurate step-count detection, we used three algorithms: an heuristic algorithm (HA), the adaptive threshold algorithm (ATA), and the adaptive locking period algorithm (ALPA). A regression equation estimating the energy expenditure (EE) was derived by using data from the accelerometer and information on the participants. The recognition rate of our algorithm was 97.34%, and the performance of the activity conversion algorithm was better than that of the Actical device by 1.61%.
