In mobile computing environments, queries based on the location of mobile clients (MCs) may cause different results. We say that the data of these results are location dependent data (LDD). Location-dependent queries to LDD need to be processed in conjunction with the geographical distance. The efficiency of query processing may also be increased by LDD relationship, etc. But there is the problem of fuzziness about how the distance used in location-dependent queries is evaluated and the data regions are organized. In this paper, we quantify the fuzziness of a location-dependent fuery on LDD. And we propose data regions for LDD, called LDD regions, by relationship of accessed data and the degree of distance between data objects and MCs' locations. In simulation studies we show that the number of database access for location-dependent queries, which have several settings on MCs' favor and two granularity of regions, can be smaller in proposed LDD regions than that in geographical regions.
To conserve the usage of energy, indexing techniques have been developed in a wireless mobile environment. However, the use of interleaved index segments in a broadcast cycle increases the average access latency for the clients. In this paper, we present the broadcast-based location dependent data delivery scheme (BBS) for dynamic range queries. In the BBS, broadcasted data objects are sorted sequentially based on their locations, and the server broadcasts the location dependent data along with an index segment. Then, we present a data prefetching and caching scheme, designed to reduce the query response time. The performance of this scheme is investigated in relation to various environmental variables, such as the distributions of the data objects, the average speed of the clients, and the size of the service area.

In this paper, we propose a new estimation method based on a weighted linear regression framework to obtain some estimators for unknown parameters in a two-parameter Rayleigh distribution under a progressive Type-II censoring scheme. We also provide unbiased estimators of the location parameter and scale parameter which have a nuisance parameter, and an estimator based on a pivotal quantity which does not depend on the other parameter. The proposed weighted least square estimator (WLSE) of the location parameter is not dependent on the scale parameter. In addition, the WLSE of the scale parameter is not dependent on the location parameter. The results are compared with the maximum likelihood method and pivot-based estimation method. The assessments and comparisons are done using Monte Carlo simulations and real data analysis. The simulation results show that the estimators ${\hat{\mu}}_u({\hat{\theta}}_p)$ and ${\hat{\theta}}_p({\hat{\mu}}_u)$ are superior to the other estimators in terms of the mean squared error (MSE) and bias.
Indexing techniques are used to implement selective tuning in wireless environments Indices are broadcast together with data to help mobile clients locate the required information. As a result, clients stay in doze mode most of the time. The drawback of this solution is that broadcast cycles are lengthened due to additional index information. In location-aware mobile services(LAMSs), it is important to reduce the query response time, since a late query response nay contain out-of-date information. In this paper, we present a broadcast-based spatial query processing method (BBS) designed to support k-NN query processing. In the BBS, broadcasted data objects are sorted sequentially based on their locations, and the server broadcasts the location dependent data along with an index segment. The performance of this scheme is investigated in relation to various environmental variables, such as the distributions of the data objects, the average speed of the clients and the size of the service area.

We present a survey of contributions that defined the nature and extent of robust statistics for the last 50 years. From the pioneering work of Tukey, Huber, and Hampel that focused on robust location parameter estimation, we presented various generalizations of these estimation procedures that cover a wide variety of models and data analysis methods. Among these extensions, we present linear models, clustered and dependent observations, times series data, binary and discrete data, models for spatial data, nonparametric methods, and forward search methods for outliers. We also present the current interest in robust statistics and conclude with suggestions on the possible future direction of this area for statistical science.
The results of location-dependent queries(LDQ) generally depend on the current locations of query issuers. Many mechanisms, e.g. broadcast scheme, hoarding, or racking policy, have been developed to improve the system peformance and provide better services, which are specialized for LDQs. Considering geographical adjacency of data and characteristics oi target area, caching policy and broadcast scheme affect the overall performance in LDQ. For this reason, we propose both the caching policy and broadcast scheme, which these features are reflected in. Based on the adjacency of data in LDQ, our broadcast scheme use Hilbert curve to cluster data. Moreover, in order to develop the caching policy suitable for LDQ on urban area, we apply the moving distance of a MH(Mobile Host) to our caching policy We evaluate the performance of the caching policy measuring the workload of MHs and the correctness of LDQ results and the performance of the broadcast scheme measuring the average setup-time of MHs in our experiments. Finally, we expect that our caching policy Provides more correct answers when executing LDQ in focal cache and leads significant improvement of the performance of MHs. It also seems quite probable that our broadcast scheme leads improvement of battery life of the MH.
The Voronoi diagram (VD) is the most suitable mechanism to find the nearest neighbor (NN) for mobile clients. In NN query processing, it is important to reduce the query response time, since a late query response may contain out-of-date information. In this paper, we study the issue of location dependent information services (LDISs) using a VD. To begin our study, we first introduce a broadcast-based spatial query processing methods designed to support NN query processing. In further sections, we introduce a generic method for location-dependent sequential prefetching and caching. The performance of this scheme is studied in different simulated environments. The core contribution of this research resides in our analytical proof and experimental results.
In ubiquitous spaces, a user wants to be provided with a VOD service while moving one space to another freely. Since the traditional VOD system is dependent on user location, the VOD server transmits video data to a single client during a session. If the user moves to another space, he/she should close the old session and make a new request for the same video. However, the location-aware VOD system supports user mobility by closing and opening the session automatically. That is, the VOD system automatically perceives the movement of a user and allows the server to change the data flow so that a client near the user can receive the video data. This paper proposes a location-aware VOD service architecture and a session handoff scheme to provide a mobile user with continuous video delivery and implements a location-aware VOD prototype system based on Jini and Java. In experiment, we show that the proposed handoff scheme has a smaller handoff delay than the other handoff scheme.
We propose a vehicle-mounted, location-aware mobile digital signage system that can be used for public transportation through mobile communication. This paper proposes the installations of the LED display panels at the backside of the bus., which display traffic information to cars behind the bus. Information to be displayed would include, but is not limited to, road information, public commercials and private commercials. We propose the system architecture and further implement the prototype of mobile digital signage system for demonstration. The system is based on the Client-Server system. Each bus has a client terminal which detects the current location by a GPS receiver and sends its location information to the server using mobile communication function. The terminal device receives advertisements and traffic information from the server and displays it to the large LCD or LED panel installed at the inside and outside of the bus. We use the Android smartphone as a client system, which inherently equipped with GPS and mobile communication function. GPS detects the location of bus and reports its geo-location data to the traffic information center server via a wireless communication network. On the server side, we developed a specially designed control server, where it communicates with the other traffic information center and updates and manages the databases contents being displayed by each position. The server contains location dependent variable information and returns selected information back to the vehicle in real time. Spatial database is used to process location based data. Server system periodically receives the real time traffic information from the road information center database. And it process the information by bus location and bus line number. In this paper, we propose a mobile digital signage service and explain the system implementation of this service.

Mobile Crowdsourcing (MCS) has become an emerging paradigm evolved from crowdsourcing by employing advanced features of mobile devices such as smartphones to perform more complicated, especially spatial tasks. One of the key procedures in MCS is to collect answers from mobile users (workers), which may face several security issues. First, authentication is required to ensure that answers are from authorized workers. In addition, MCS tasks are usually location-dependent, so the collected answers could disclose workers' location privacy, which may discourage workers to participate in the tasks. Finally, the overhead occurred by authentication and privacy protection should be minimized since mobile devices are resource-constrained. Considering all the above concerns, in this paper, we propose a lightweight and privacy-preserving answer collection scheme for MCS. In the proposed scheme, we achieve anonymous authentication based on traceable ring signature, which provides authentication, anonymity, as well as traceability by enabling malicious workers tracing. In order to balance user location privacy and data availability, we propose a new concept named current location privacy, which means the location of the worker cannot be disclosed to anyone until a specified time. Since the leakage of current location will seriously threaten workers' personal safety, causing such as absence or presence disclosure attacks, it is necessary to pay attention to the current location privacy of workers in MCS. We encrypt the collected answers based on timed-release encryption, ensuring the secure transmission and high availability of data, as well as preserving the current location privacy of workers. Finally, we analyze the security and performance of the proposed scheme. The experimental results show that the computation costs of a worker depend on the number of ring signature members, which indicates the flexibility for a worker to choose an appropriate size of the group under considerations of privacy and efficiency.
