  • When a mobile robot performs in unknown environments, a location identification is an essential task. In this paper, we propose a location identification system that uses a sensor space without additional devices on the robot. Also the sensor space consists of a matrix of CDS sensor; when a robot was positioned on the CDS sensor, we can estimate the coordinate of the location by sensing a light. Based on KS illumination standard, experiments are performed in various environments. By evaluating the experimental results, we can show that the proposed system can be applicable to the location identification system of a moving robot.

  • This paper proposes a new system to maximize efficiency of Air Base Protection Operations through the development of location identification software. The Wibro-based location identification system for Air Base Protection Force offers Blue Ground Force digitalized character message which is not exposed to enemy. Also, it is possible to automatically provide the location of Blue Ground Force to Air Base Ground Operations Center. The test result proves that this system is very helpful when Air Base Protection Force executes Air Base Protection Operations.

  • The purpose of the present work is to establish a method for predicting the location and depth of a crack in a circular cross section beam by only considering the frequencies of the cracked beam. An accurate knowledge of the material properties is not required. The crack location and size is identified by finding the point of intersection of pulsation ratio contour lines of lower vertical and horizontal modes. This process is presented and numerically validated in the case of a simply supported beam with various crack locations and sizes. If the beam has structural symmetry, the identification of crack location is performed by adding an off-center placed mass to the simply supported beam. In order to avoid worse diagnostic, it was demonstrated that a robust identification of crack size and location is possible if two tests are undertaken by adding the mass at the left and then right end of the simply supported beam. Finally, the pulsation ratio contour lines method is generalized in order to be extended to the case of rectangular cross section beams or more complex structures.

  • The road name address is a two-dimensional location marking method for naming each road and assigning a number to each building. However, the road name address only shows the necessary parts for administrative and legal acts, and it does not properly display the main characteristics of various roads and non-residential areas. This has become more and more difficult to standardize different location identification methods, merely as a separate location identification method. This paper proposes road-based 3D location identification code to overcome the difficulties of integrating different location identification methods in Korea and to overcome the limit of 2D plane. This is a method to integrate various location identification methods based on roads and to identify spatial coordinates. It is a study on 3D digital coding of the land suitable for the 4th Industrial Revolution era.

  • We investigate the role of contact location information on the perception of local features during contour following in a virtual environment. An absolute identification experiment is conducted under force-alone and force-plus-contact-location conditions to investigate the effect of the contact location information. The results show that the participants identify the local features significantly better in terms of higher information transfer for the force-plus-contact-location condition, while no significant difference was found for measures of the efficacy of contour following between the two conditions. Further data analyses indicate that the improved identification of local features with contact location information is due to the improved identification of small surface features.

  • This paper is concerned with a protection system for the mentally handicapped, which is utilizing a GPS receiver and mobile communications. The protection system consists of a location notification equipment, a location identification and management server, and a cell phone of guardian. The location notification equipment is made up of a GPS receiver, a CDMA communication module and a microprocessor. The equipment transfers the location of the mentally impaired to the location identification and management server when the handicapped gets out of a certain bound of the designated facility. The server marks the handicapped's location on the map in the server and also notifies the guardian's cell phone of the locations. With applying the proposed protection system to social welfare organizations related to the mentally handicapped, it is expected to efficiently contribute to the promotion of the handicapped's welfare.

  • Recently, because of complex cultural space, underground space are becoming larger. Therefore, the demand for location-based services is growing. VLC (Visible Light Communication) is based on the LED lighting infrastructure so that suitable LBS (Location-based service) is possible for the targeted places in indoor space. To experiment with indoor LBS by VLC, we measure the identification distance according to variable angles between LED and photo diode. We send the different ASCII code for each LED light, then we found the maximum identification distance is 1.75m from LED lights. From the results of this experiment, we show that indoor navigation is possible.

  • This study relates to the development of a wearable device that can identify a personal location using low-power GPS and IMU based on energy harvesting. The energy harvesting technology using a piezoelectric device was applied for the development of personal location identification, and made it possible to acquire precise personal location data using GPS and IMU. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that GPS and IMU data were normally received. The personal location identification device can be prepared for an accident by identifying a personal location in a disaster area, etc., and the user will be able to use it easily regardless of time, place, and environment. It is expected that it can be used in various fields such as leisure and health care.

  • Existing city-level boundary nodes identification methods need to locate all IP addresses on the path to differentiate which IP is the boundary node. However, these methods are susceptible to time-delay, the accuracy of location information and other factors, and the resource consumption of locating all IPes is tremendous. To improve the recognition rate and reduce the locating cost, this paper proposes an algorithm for city-level boundary node identification based on bidirectional approaching. Different from the existing methods based on time-delay information and location results, the proposed algorithm uses topological analysis to construct a set of candidate boundary nodes and then identifies the boundary nodes. The proposed algorithm can identify the boundary of the target city network without high-precision location information and dramatically reduces resource consumption compared with the traditional algorithm. Meanwhile, it can label some errors in the existing IP address database. Based on 45,182,326 measurement results from Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Hangzhou in China and New York, Los Angeles and Dallas in the United States, the experimental results show that: The algorithm can accurately identify the city boundary nodes using only 20.33% location resources, and more than 80.29% of the boundary nodes can be mined with a precision of more than 70.73%.
