Abnormal condition inevitably occurs during operation of water distribution system (WDS) and requires the isolation of certain areas using isolation valves. In general, the determination of the optimal location of isolation valves considered minimization of hydraulic failures as isolation of certain areas causes a change in hydraulic states (e.g., flow direction, velocity, pressure, etc.). Water quality failure can also be induced by changes in hydraulics, which have not been considered for isolation valve system design. Therefore, this study proposes a new isolation valve system design methodology to prevent unexpected water quality failure events. The new methodology considers flow direction change ratio (FDCR), which accounts for flow direction changes after isolation of the area, as a constraint while reliability is used as the objective function. The optimal design model has been applied to a synthetic grid network and the results are compared with the traditional design approach. Results show that considering FDCR can eliminate flow direction changes while average pressure and coefficient of variation of pressure, velocity, and hydraulic geodesic index (HGI) outperform compared to the traditional design approach. The proposed methodology is expected to be a useful approach to minimizing unexpected consequences by traditional design approaches.

Aiming at high-power and long-pulse operation up to 1000 s, some improvements have been made for both 2.45 GHz and 4.6 GHz lower hybrid (LH) systems during the recent 5 years. At first, the guard limiters of the LH antennas with graphite tiles were upgraded to tungsten, the most promising material for plasma facing components in nuclear fusion devices. These new guard limiters can operate at a peak power density of 12.9 MW/m2. Strong hot spots were usually observed on the old graphite limiters when 4.6 GHz system operated with power >2.0 MW [B. N. Wan et al., Nucl. Fusion 57 (2017) 102019], leading to a reduction of the maximum power capability. With the new limiters, 4.6 GHz LH system, the main current drive (CD) and electron heating tool for EAST, can be operated with power >2.5 MW routinely. Long-pulse operation up to 100 s with 4.6 GHz LH power of 2.4 MW was achieved in 2021 and the maximal temperature on the guard limiters measured by an infrared (IR) camera was about 540 ℃, much below the permissible value of tungsten material (~1200 ℃). A discharge with a duration of 1056 s was achieved and the 4.6 GHz LH energy injected into the plasma was up to 1.05 GJ. Secondly, the fully-active-multijunction (FAM) launcher of 2.45 GHz system was upgraded to a passive-active-multijunction (PAM), for which the density of optimum coupling was relatively low (below the cut-off value). Good coupling with reflection coefficient ~3% has been achieved with plasma-antenna distance up to 11 cm for the new PAM. Finally, in order to eliminate the effect of ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) wave on 4.6 GHz LH wave coupling, the location of the ICRF launcher was changed to a port that is located 157.5° toroidally from the 4.6 GHz LH system and is not magnetically connected.

Interrill erosion dominates in forest areas, and the erosion rate in surface-disturbed areas is significantly increased by the development and expansion of rill. In this study, soil erosion experiments using simulated rainfall and inflow were performed to understand the development and the micromorphological changes of rill on steep slopes. The characteristic factors of the micromorphology, such as the rill cross section, rill volume, rill density, rill order, and rill sharpness, were analyzed according to steepness and location (upper or lower) of slope. The head-cut of the simultaneous incised rills by rainfall simulation moved rapidly upslope, and the randomly developed rills expanded deeply and widely with their connection. The rill cross section evolved to downslope gradually increased. The rill volume occupied about 78 % of the sediment volume, confirming that the contribution of the sediment from the rill erosion is greater than that of the interrill erosion. Although the rate of increase in rill order slowed as the slope increased, the total length and density of the rill generally increased. As the slope increased from 15° to 20°, the bed incision of rills became larger than the sidewall expansion, and the rill sharpness increased by 1.6 times. The runoff coefficient on the lower slope decreased by 12.3 % than that on the upper slope. It was evaluated that the subsoil exposures and formation changes by the rill expansion increased the infiltration rate. Although the sediment accompanying the rills generally increased with slope increase, it was directly influenced by the hydraulic velocity of enhanced rill with the local convergence and expansion in the process of the rill evolution.

Handling Passenger Traffic is the main challenge for designing an elevator group-control algorithm. Advanced control systems such as Hyundai's Destination Selection System(DSS) lets passengers select the destination by pressing on a selecting screen, and the systems have shown great efficiency. However, the algorithm cannot be applied to the general elevator control system due to the expensive cost of the technology. Often many elevator systems use Nearest Car(NC) algorithms based on the SCAN algorithm, which results in time efficiency problems. In this paper, we designed an elevator group-control algorithm for specific buildings that have approximate timetable data for most of the passengers in the building. In that way, it is possible to predict the destination and the location of passenger calls. The algorithm consists of two parts; the waiting function and the assignment function. They evaluate elevators' actions with respect to the calls and the overall situation. 10 different timetables are created in reference to a real timetable following midday traffic and interfloor traffic. The specific coefficients in the function are set by going through the genetic algorithm process that represents the best algorithm. As result, the average waiting time has shortened by a noticeable amount and the efficiency was close to the known DSS result. Finally, we analyzed the algorithm by evaluating the meaning of each coefficient result from the genetic algorithm.

Recently, development of maritime autonomoust surface ships and eco-friendly ships, production and evaluation research considering various marine environments is needed in the field of optimal routes as the demand for accurate and detailed real-time marine environment prediction information expands. An algorithm that can calculate the optimal route while reducing the risk of the marine environment and uncertainty in energy consumption in smart ships was developed in 2 stages. In the first stage, a profile was created by combining marine environmental information with ship location and status information within the Automatic Ship Identification System(AIS). In the second stage, a model was developed that could define the marine environment energy map using the configured profile results, A regression equation was generated by applying Random Forest among machine learning techniques to reflect about 600,000 data. The Random Forest coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.89, showing very high reliability. The Dijikstra shortest path algorithm was applied to the marine environment prediction at June 1 to 3, 2021, and to calculate the optimal safety route and express it on the map. The route calculated by the random forest regression model was streamlined, and the route was derived considering the state of the marine environment prediction information. The concept of route calculation based on real-time marine environment prediction information in this study is expected to be able to calculate a realistic and safe route that reflects the movement tendency of ships, and to be expanded to a range of economic, safety, and eco-friendliness evaluation models in the future.
In this study, a quantitative risk impact assessment is performed using an ALOHA program to identify the risks when applying ammonia as fuel for combined cycle power plants as one of the solutions of climate change. The worst and the alternative accident scenarios are established for the Sejong combined cycle power plant and the effective ranges are calculated in terms of flammability, thermal radiation, overpressure and toxicity. The analysis results show that the toxic risk is the most critical and the effective distance is highly proportional to the mixing ratio of natural gas and ammonia by showing the Pearson's correlation coefficient over 98% as 0.991, 0.987 and 0.989 for the Level Of Concern(LOC)-1, LOC-2 and LOC-3, respectively. In addition, the coefficients of linearity for LOC-1, LOC-2 and LOC-3 are calculated to 133, 70 and 29, respectively so it can be confirmed that the effective distance increases as the criterion decreases.
In this study, we propose an outlier detection method that considers the spatial distribution of intelligent compaction measurement values (ICMVs) to address the high variability of ICMVs measured continuously across an entire construction area. The proposed method initially identified cases where the CMV at a specific location decreased despite an increase in the number of compaction passes. Among these, values that significantly differed from those measured within a 1.5-m radius were classified as outliers. Applying this method to CMV data obtained from field tests, we found that it effectively excluded the influence of changes in roller operating conditions unrelated to compaction quality while considering the inherent heterogeneity of the soil. However, after removing the outliers, the coefficient of variation of CMV (21.4%-26.3%) remained higher than the 20% suggested by relevant standards. Further field tests are needed to modify the proposed outlier detection method and to establish reasonable criteria for the variability of ICMV.

Recently, the need for water supply from hydropower dams has been increasing due to drought. In order to supply water through hydropower dam, the inflow into hydropower dam should be evaluated first. Some of the hydropower dams in the Han River basin are located downstream of multipurpose dam, so it is important to analyze its own inflow of the hydropower dam. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the contribution of inflow by water source to the hydropower dam located in the Han River basin. Water use-related data provided by various domestic institutions were investigated and collected, and a location-based water supply and demand network was constructed. Unlike the existing domestic water balance analysis method, the simulation was conducted in consideration of the amount of transmission loss. The applicability of the analysis method was confirmed through the results of the fitness evaluation (NSE 0.95~0.99 and correlation coefficient 0.98~0.99) comparing the simulated flow with the observed flow at the representative point. Based on the water intake method of the facility and the release method of the remaining multipurpose dam water, a water balance analysis was performed assuming four cases, and the contribution of inflow by water sources into each hydropower dam was evaluated and presented. The research results are expected to provide various information for evaluating the water supply capacity of hydropower dams in the future.
In the recent years, the internet has become accessible without limitation of time and location to anyone with smartphones. It resulted in more convenient travel information access both on the pre-trip and en-route phase. The main objective of this study is to conduct a stationary test for traffic information web/mobile application access indexes from TCS (Toll Collection System); and analyzing the relationship between the web/mobile application access indexes and actual traffic volume on expressways, in order to analyze searching behavior of expressway related travel information. The key findings of this study are as follows: first, the results of ADF-test and PP-test confirm that the web/mobile application access indexes by time periods satisfy stationary conditions even without log or differential transformation. Second, the Pearson correlation test showed that there is a strong and positive correlation between the web/mobile application access indexes and expressway entry and exit traffic volume. In contrast, truck entry traffic volume from TCS has no significant correlation with the web/mobile application access indexes. Third, the time gap relationship between time-series variables (i.e., concurrent, leading and lagging) was analyzed by cross-correlation tests. The results indicated that the mobile application access leads web access, and the number of mobile application execution is concurrent with all web access indexes. Lastly, there was no web/mobile application access indexes leading expressway entry traffic volumes on expressways, and the highest correlation was observed between webpage view/visitor/new visitor/repeat visitor/application execution counts and expressway entry volume with a lag of one hour. It is expected that specific individual travel behavior can be predicted such as route conversion time and ratio if the data are subdivided by time periods and areas and utilizing traffic information users' location.
For the success of dental implant, accurate radiographic evaluation is prerequisite for planning the location of the osseointegrated implants and avoiding injury to vital structures. CT/MPR(computed tomography/multiplanar reformation) shows improved visualization of inferior alveolar canal. In order to obtain cross-sectional images parallel to the teeth, the occlusal plane is used to orientate for the axial plane. If the direction of axial plane is not parallel to the occlusal plane, the reformatted cross-sectional scans will be oblique to the planned fixture direction and will not show the actual dimension of the planned fixture's location. If the available bone height which measured in the cross-sectional view is much greater than the actual available bone height, penetration of canal may occur. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of the axial plane to measurement of available bone height for dental implant in computed tomography of the mandible. 40 patients who had made radiographic stents and had taken CT were selected. The sites that were included in the study were 45 molar regions. In the central panoramic scan, the length from alveolar crest to superior border of inferior alveolar canal(available bone height, ABH) was measured in direction of reformatted cross-sectional plane(uncorrected ABH). Then, length from alveolar crest to superior border of canal was measured in direction of stent(corrected ABH). The angle between uncorrected ABH and corrected ABH was measured. From each ABH, available fixture length was decided by $Br{{\aa}}nemark$ system. The results were following ; the difference between two ABHs was statistically significant in both first and second molar(p< 0.01). The percentage of difference more than 1 mm was 8.7% in first molar and 15.5% in second molar. The percentage of difference more than 2 mm was 2.0% in first molar and 6.6% in second molar. The maximum value of difference was 2.5 mm in first molar and 2.2 mm in second molar. The correlations between difference of 2 ABHs and angle was positive correlations in both first and second molar. The correlation coefficient was 0.534 in first molar and 0.728 in second molar. The second molar has a stronger positive correlation. The percentage of disagreement between 2 fixture lengths from two ABHs was 24.4% in first molar and 28.9% in second molar.
