Node localization is the basic task of underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs). Most of the existing underwater localization methods rely on ranging accuracy. Due to the special environment conditions in the ocean, beacon nodes are difficult to deploy accurately. The narrow bandwidth and high delay of the underwater acoustic communication channel lead to large errors. In order to reduce the ranging error and improve the positioning accuracy, we propose a localization algorithm based on ranging correction and inertial coordination. The algorithm can be divided into two parts, Range Correction based Localization algorithm (RCL) and Inertial Coordination based Localization algorithm (ICL). RCL uses the geometric relationship between the node positions to correct the ranging error and obtain the exact node position. However, when the unknown node deviates from the deployment area with the movement of the water flow, it cannot communicate with enough beacon nodes in a certain period of time. In this case, the node uses ICL algorithm to combine position data with motion information of neighbor nodes to update its position. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm greatly improves the positioning accuracy of unknown nodes compared with the existing localization methods.
Sensor localization has become an essential requirement for realistic applications over wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this paper we propose an ad hoc localization algorithm that is infrastructure-free, anchor-free, and computationally efficient with reduced communication. A novel combination of distance and direction estimation technique is introduced to detect and estimate ranges between neighbors. Using this information we construct unidirectional coordinate systems to avoid the reflection ambiguity. We then compute node positions using a transformation matrix [T], which reduces the computational complexity of the localization algorithm while computing positions relative to the fixed coordinate system. Simulation results have shown that at a node degree of 9 we get $90\%$ localization with $20\%$ average localization error without using any error refining schemes.
This paper describes a localization algorithm utilizing relative observations for multiple autonomous underwater vehicles (Multiple-AUVs). In order to maximize the efficiency of operation and mission accomplishment and to prevent problems such as collision and interference, the locations and directions of Multiple-AUVs must be precisely estimated. To estimate the locations and directions, we designed a localization algorithm utilizing relative observations and verified it with simulations based on sensor data sets acquired through real sea experiments. Also, an optimal combination of relative observation information for efficient localization is figured out through combining various relative observations. The proposed method shows improved localization results compared to those only using the navigation algorithm. The performance of localization is improved up to 58% depending on the combination of relative observations.
We proposed a robust localization algorithm for mobile robots using LRF. A novel cost function for localization is suggested, which was used for calculating correct rotation angle and translation vector. We examined validity of our algorithm with various simulations and experiments, and also revealed robustness and accuracy compared to previous localization algorithms.
This paper presents a modified localization scheme of a mobile robot. When it navigates, the position error of a robot is increased and doesn't go to a goal point where the robot intends to go at the beginning. The objective of localization is to estimate the position of a robot precisely. Many algorithms were developed and still are being researched for localization of a mobile robot at present. Among them, a localization algorithm named continuous localization proposed by Schultz has some merits on real-time navigation and is easy to be implemented compared to other localization schemes. Continuous Localization (CL) is based on map-matching algorithm with global and local maps using only ultrasonic sensors for making grid maps. However, CL has some problems in the process of searching the best-scored-map, when it is applied to a mobile robot. We here propose fast and powerful map-matching algorithm for localization of a mobile robot by experiments.

The easy scalability and low cost of range-free localization algorithms have led to their wide attention and application in node localization of wireless sensor networks. However, the existing range-free localization algorithms still have problems, such as large cumulative errors and poor localization performance. To solve these problems, an incremental strategy-based residual regression network is proposed for node localization in wireless sensor networks. The algorithm predicts the coordinates of the nodes to be solved by building a deep learning model and fine-tunes the prediction results by regression based on the intersection of the communication range between the predicted and real coordinates and the loss function, which improves the localization performance of the algorithm. Moreover, a correction scheme is proposed to correct the augmented data in the incremental strategy, which reduces the cumulative error generated during the algorithm localization. The analysis through simulation experiments demonstrates that our proposed algorithm has strong robustness and has obvious advantages in localization performance compared with other algorithms.
The strain localization is a discontinuous phenomenon that addresses the formation of jumps of the field variables across a singularity surface. It has become widely accepted that the localization may occur as the result of discontinuous bifurcation which corresponds to the loss of ellipticity of the governing differential equations for elasto-plastic continua. In this paper, condition for strain localization in concrete based on bifurcation theory is studied and localization tensor analysis algorithm is employed to determine the directions of localization of deformations in concrete. By applying a plasticity model of concrete into the algorithm, localization analysis is performed concrete under uniaxial tension, pure shear and uniaxial compression.
Source localization is an important problem in the field of sonar and radar, etc. For the purpose of source localization, two or more spatially separated sensors are often used to measure the time difference of arrivals of a radiating source whose transmitted signal waveform is unknown. The NLS(Nonlinear Least Square) cost function with curve fitting method was proposed recently, which provide robust source localization performance by reducing estimation ambiguity. However, even this algorithm shows degraded performance in a multipath environment. To estimates source localization correctly, source localization algorithm that eliminate the effect of multipath signals is required. In this paper, PMP(Power Matching Procedure) is added to the algorithm, which provides improved source localization performance by properly cutting out the effect of multipath signals. Through simulation the performance of the proposed source localization algorithm is verified.

Range-free localization algorithm computes a normal node's position by estimating the distance to anchors which know their actual position. In recent years, reliable anchor selection research has been gained a lot of attention because this approach improves localization accuracy by selecting the only subset of anchors called reliable anchor. The distance estimation accuracy and the geometric shape formed by anchors are the two important factors which need to be considered when selecting the reliable anchors. In this paper, we study the relationship between a relative position of three anchors and localization error. From this study, under ideal condition, which is with zero localization error, we find two conditions for anchor selection, thereby proposing a novel anchor selection algorithm that selects three anchors matched most closely to the two conditions, and the validities of the conditions are proved using two theorems. By further employing the conditions, we finally propose a novel range-free localization algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm shows considerably improved performance as compared to other existing works.
This paper proposes a beacon color code scheduling algorithm for the localization of multiple robots in a multi-block workspace. With the developments of intelligent robotics and ubiquitous technology, service robots are applicable for the wide area such as airports and train stations where multiple indoor GPS systems are required for the localization of the mobile robots. Indoor localization schemes using ultrasonic sensors have been widely studied due to its cheap price and high accuracy. However, ultrasonic sensors have some shortages of short transmission range and interferences with other ultrasonic signals. In order to use multiple robots in wide workspace concurrently, it is necessary to resolve the interference problem among the multiple robots in the localization process. This paper proposes an indoor localization system for concurrent multiple robots localization in a wide service area which is divided into multi-block for the reliable sensor operation. The beacon color code scheduling algorithm is developed to avoid the signal interferences and to achieve efficient localization with high accuracy and short sampling time. The performance of the proposed localization system is verified through the simulations and the real experiments.
