일기엔트로피 및 정보비에 의한 장마기의 일기대표성 설정 - 서울, 대구, 광주, 충주, 부여를 중심으로 - (The Weather Representativeness in Changma Period Established by the Weather Entropy and Information Ratio - Focused on Seoul, Taegu, Gwangju, Chungju, Puyo -)

  • The seasonal variation and frequency of rainfalls of Korea peninsula in Changma period show strong local weather phenomenon because of it's topographical and geographical factors in Northeast side of Asia. Based on weather entropy(statistical parameter)-the amount of average weather information-and information ratio, we can define each area's weather representativeness, which can show us more constant form included topographical and geographical factors and seasonal variation. The data used for this study are the daily precipitation and cloudiness during the recent ten years(1990-1999) at the 73 stations in Korea. To synthesize weather Entropy, information ratio of decaying tendency and half$.$decay distance, Seoul's weather representativeness has the smallest in Summer Changma period. And Puyo has the largest value in September.

Competition between ICME and crustal magnetic field on the loss of Mars atmosphere

  • The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile (MAVEN) mission has been providing valuable information on the atmospheric loss of Mars since its launch in November 2013. The Neutral Gass and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) onboard MAVEN, was developed to analyze the composition of the Martian upper atmospheric neutrals and ions depending on various space weather conditions. We investigate a variation of upper atmospheric ion densities depending on the interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs). It is known that the Mars has a very weak global magnetic field, so upper atmosphere of Mars has been strongly affected by the solar activities. Meanwhile, a strong crustal magnetic field exists on local surfaces, so they also have a compensating effect on the upper atmospheric loss outside the Mars. The weak crustal field has an influence up to 200km altitude, but on a strong field region, especially east longitude of $180^{\circ}$ and latitude of $-50^{\circ}$, they have an influence over 1,400km altitude. In this paper, we investigated which is more dominant between the crustal field effect and the ICME effect to the atmospheric loss. At 400km altitude, the ion density over the strong crustal field region did not show a significant variation despite of ICME event. However, over the other areas, the variation associated with ICME event is far more overwhelming.

국지기상 모니터링용 필드서버를 위한 플러딩 라우팅 프로토콜의 구현 (Implementation of Flooding Routing Protocol for Field sever using Weather Monitoring System)

  • 산악지역이나 어떤 한정된 지역에서 급작하게 나타나는 기상변화를 모니터링하기 위해 유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크 기술을 이용한 필드서버를 개발하였다. 국지적 기상변화에 의한 인명 및 재난 피해를 최소화하기 위해 국지역내에 배치된 필드서버간의 데이터 전달이 매우 중요한 기술이다. 일정한 국지적 지역에 배치 된 필드서버들로부터 일정한 시간 간격으로 수집되는 온도, 습도, 조도, 기압, 이슬점, 수위의 기상데이터를 전송하기 위한 플러딩 라우팅 프로토콜 전송방식을 구현하였으며, 이를 제작 된 외부센서모듈과 Telosb 계열의 센서노드에 nesC 언어를 사용한 초소형 무선센서네트워크 플랫폼인 TinyOS로 프로그램 하여서 서버 컴퓨터에서 모니터링 할 수 있도록 하였다.

Observation of Periodic and Transient Cosmic Ray Flux Variations by the Daejeon Neutron Monitor and the Seoul muon Detector

  • Recently, two instruments of cosmic ray are operating in South Korea. One is Seoul muon detector after October 1999 and the other is Daejeon neutron monitor (Kang et al. 2012) after October 2011. The former consists of four small plastic scintillators and the latter is the standard 18 NM 64 type. In this report, we introduce the characteristics of both instruments. We also analyze the flux variations of cosmic ray such as diurnal variation and Forbush decrease. As the result, the muon flux shows the typical seasonal and diurnal variations. The neutron flux also shows the diurnal variation. The phase which shows the maximum flux in the diurnal variation is around 13-14 local time. We found a Forbush decrease on 7 March 2012 by both instruments. It is also identified by Nagoya multi-direction muon telescope and Oulu neutron monitor. The observation of cosmic ray at Jangbogo station as well as in Korean peninsula can support the important information on space weather in local area. It can also enhance the status of Korea in the international community of cosmic ray experiments.

제주지역 미세먼지의 장기변동 및 농도변화에 관한 국지기상 분석 (An Analysis of Long-Term Variation of PM10 Levels and Local Meteorology in Relation to Their Concentration Changes in Jeju)

  • Long-term variations of $PM_{10}$ and the characteristics of local meteorology related to its concentration changes were analyzed at 4 air quality sites (Ido-dong, Yeon-dong, Donghong-dong, and Gosan) in Jeju during two different periods, such as PI (2001-2006) and PII (2007-2013), over a 13-year period. Overall, the long-term trend of $PM_{10}$ was very slightly downward during the whole study period, while the high $PM_{10}$ concentrations in PII were observed more frequently than those in PI. The concentration variations of $PM_{10}$ during the study period was clarified in correlation between $PM_{10}$ and meteorological variables, e.g. the low (high) $PM_{10}$ concentration with large (small) precipitation or high (low) radiation and in part high $PM_{10}$ concentrations (especially, Donghong-dong and Gosan) with strong wind speed and the westerly/northwesterly winds. This was likely to be caused by the transport effect (from the polluted regions of China) rather than the contribution of local emission sources. The $PM_{10}$ concentrations in "Asian dust" and "Haze" weather types were higher, whereas those in "Precipitation", "Fog", and "Thunder and Lighting" weather types were lower. The contribution of long-range transport to the observed $PM_{10}$ levels in the urban center (Ido-dong, Yeon-dong, and Donghong-dong), if estimated by comparison to the data of the background site (Gosan), was found to explain about 80% (on average) of its input.

저고도 기상 레이다에서의 도플러 스펙트럼 추정 (Doppler Spectrum Estimation in a Low Elevation Weather Radar)

  • 기상 레이다 시스템은 일반적으로 강우 및 풍속 등과 관련된 기상 현상을 나타낸다. 이러한 시스템은 대부분의 경우 장거리용이며 비교적 높은 고도를 지향하고 있어 넓은 지역에서의 전체적인 기상 현상을 파악하는 목적으로는 매우 유용하다. 그러나 최근에 와서 국지적인 폭우나 또는 돌풍 등에 의한 재난현상이 빈번히 발생되고 있기 때문에 이러한 기상이변 현상의 탐지가 매우 중요한 문제이다. 국지적인 기상 이변 탐지목적의 기상 레이다는 저고도 탐지 및 급변하는 국지적인 기상상황의 빠른 탐지가 필요하다. 이러한 운용환경에서는 상대적으로 지표면 클러터가 큰 영향을 미치며 안테나의 신호 획득시간도 매우 짧아진다. 따라서 기존의 도플러 스펙트럼 추정방법에 심각한 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 AR(autoregressive) 도플러 스펙트럼 추정 방법들을 적용하고 결과들을 고찰하였다. 적용된 방법들을 이용하면 기존의 FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) 방법에 비하여 향상된 도플러 스펙트럼 추정이 가능함을 보였다.

Space Weather Effects on GEO Satellite Anomalies during 1997-2009

  • Numerous operational anomalies and satellite failures have been reported since the beginnings of the "space age". Space weather effects on modern spacecraft systems have been emphasized more and more as increasing their complexity and capability. Energetic particles potentially can destroy and degrade electronic components in satellites. We analyzed the geostationary (GEO) satellite anomalies during 1997-2009 to search possible influences of space weather on the satellite anomalies like power problem, control processor problem, attitude control problem, etc. For this we use particle data from GOES and LANL satellites to investigate space weather effects on the GEO satellites' anomalies depending on Kp index, local time, seasonal variation, and high-energy electron contribution. As results, we obtained following results: (1) there is a good correlation between geomagnetic index(Kp) and anomaly occurrences of the GEO satellite; (2) especially during the solar minimum, occurrence of the satellite anomalies are related to electron flux increase due to high speed solar wind; (3) satellite anomalies occurred more preferentially in the midnight and dawn sector than noon and dusk sector; (4) and the anomalies occurred twice more in Spring and Fall than Summer and Winter; (5) the electron with the lowest energy channel (50-75keV) has the highest correlation (cc=0.758) with the anomalies. High association between the anomalies and the low energy electrons could be understand by the facts that electron fluxes in the spring and fall are stronger than those in the summer and winter, and low-energy electron flux is more concentrated in the dawn sector where the GEO satellite anomalies occurred more frequently than high-energy electron flux. While we could not identify what cause such local time dependences, our results shows that low-energy electrons (~100keV) could be main source of the satellite anomaly, which should be carefully taken into account of operating satellites.

야간 냉각율을 이용한 우포늪의 기온변화 완화효과 평가 (Evaluation of Mitigation Effect of Upo-Swamp on the Air temperature Variation with Nighttime Cooling Rate)

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of Upo-swamp upon local thermal environment with nighttime cooling rate. To do this, we set up the AWS(Automatic Weather observation System) over the central part of Upo-swamp on the early October 2007. We conducted the study by comparing the AWS data with another weather data observed by several meteorological observations of the Korea Meteorological Administration located at the vicinity of Upo-swamp for one year. The air temperature of Upo-swamp was higher than that of the surrounding in cold-climate season. But it was opposite in warm-climate season. We confirmed that Upo-swamp roles to mitigate the daily and annual air temperature ranges. And the daily air temperature variation of Upo-swamp lagged behind the land one. This phenomenon represent that the heat reservoir capacity of Upo-swamp is much larger than that of the ground.

MLR 및 SVR 기반 선형과 비선형회귀분석의 비교 - 풍속 예측 보정 (Comparison of MLR and SVR Based Linear and Nonlinear Regressions - Compensation for Wind Speed Prediction)

  • Wind speed is heavily fluctuated and quite local than other weather elements. It is difficult to improve the accuracy of prediction only in a numerical prediction model. An MOS (Model Output Statistics) technique is used to correct the systematic errors of the model using a statistical data analysis. The Most of previous MOS has used a linear regression model for weather prediction, but it is hard to manage an irregular nature of prediction of wind speed. In order to solve the problem, a nonlinear regression method using SVR (Support Vector Regression) is introduced for a development of MOS for wind speed prediction. Experiments are performed for KLAPS (Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) re-analysis data from 2007 to 2013 year for Jeju Island and Busan area in South Korea. The MLR and SVR based linear and nonlinear methods are compared to each other for prediction accuracy of wind speed. Also, the comparison experiments are executed for the variation in the number of UM elements.

부산 연안역의 오존 농도에 미치는 해풍의 영향 (The Influences of 5ea Breeze on Surface Ozone Concentration in Pusan Coastal Area, Korea)

  • Air pollution characteristics and the influence of sea breeze on surface ozone concentration were studied using the data measured at 7 air quality continuous monitoring stations from June to September using 3 years (1990, 1993, 1994) in Pusan coastal area. Among the 246 sea breeze days for research Period, there were approximately 89 sea breeze days (36%) from lune to September, And there were 120 the episode days (68%) of ozone greater than or equal to 60 ppb in summer season. In 89 sea breeze days, the episode day was highly marked as 56 days (63%). So, we knew that the sea breeze greatly affects the occurence of ozone episode day. the ozone concentration under the condition of the sea breeze increase about 40% in the daytime. Frequencies distribution of $O_3$ concentration for sea breeze moved toward high concentration class. The characteristics of ozone concentration in relation to meteorological conditions of sea breeze is significant because we can discover major weather factors for eastablishing an air pollution- weather forecast system. For further. study about meterological approach method for photochemical air pollution, it is necessary to explain the characteristics of atmosphere below 1, 000 m, especially concerning the formation mechanism of inversion layers. And finally, we will study the relationships to synoptic weather conditions and vertical structure and diurnal variation of local wind systems including sea breeze, and the vertical movements of atmosphere in the city.
