  • This thesis is to newly understand the value and the meaning of Chonju Palkyong(全州八景) by the specific gravity in making a counter-proposal in other to improve the landscape identity of modern city and at the same time. I intended to group the grafting device for the preservation and regeneration of modern history cultural environment through the interpretation of landscape construction. The meaning system of Chonju Palkyong showed the symbolic system which a landscape construction, four directions and two places has and exhibited the landscape shape possessing a luxuriant local feature peculiar to Chonju, preserving visual bound language of a classical Palkyong. Especially, it implies the use of the substantial landscape experienced factor, the expressions about natural phenomena and the matter which has melted human living circumstances. The landscape construction and it's form show the system which forms the different time field, a far landscape and a mid distance landscape and a near landscape, etc., under the visual, psychological, scenic influenced area, preserving the feature of the similar and typical type of Sosang Palkyoung(瀟湘八景) which intended to seek the local reappearance of the famous site experienced type and natural matter which famous place and local conduct were combined. The object space of Chonju Palkyong area representing the nature of historical landscape cultural assets, pushed by the greater part of the development based theory, shows injured aspects, but needs to play a part to seek such a up-to-date successive plan as the reconstruction of the destroyed historical landscape area which motivated Palkyong, the establishment of useful area, the embodiment of the cultural identity of Palkyong area and the becoming of the educational cultural life space. The analysis of the landscape construction of Chonju Palkyong and the grouping of the modern successive plan which I considered in this thesis, will be able to become a fundamental data to carry out the preservation of historical landscape and the landscape plan in the city.

  • Network intrusion detection system based on machine learning method such as artificial neural network is quite dependent on the selected features in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Nevertheless, choosing the optimal combination of features, which guarantees accuracy and efficienty, from generally used many features to detect network intrusion requires extensive computing resources. In this paper, we deal with a optimal feature selection problem to determine 6 denial service attacks and normal usage provided by NSL-KDD data. We propose a optimal feature selection algorithm. Proposed algorithm is based on the multi-start local search algorithm, one of representative meta-heuristic algorithm for solving optimization problem. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm, comparison with a case of all 41 features used against NSL-KDD data is conducted. In addtion, comparisons between 3 well-known machine learning methods (multi-layer perceptron., Bayes classifier, and Support vector machine) are performed to find a machine learning method which shows the best performance combined with the proposed feature selection method.

  • For quantitative analysis of spatio-temporal distribution pattern on marine environment, spatial autocorrelation statistics on the both global and local aspects was applied to the observed data obtained from Gwangyang Bay in South Sea of Korea. Global indexes such as Moran's I and General G were used for understanding environmental distribution pattern in the whole study area. LISAs (local indicators of spatial association) such as Moran's I ($I_i$) and $G_i{^*}$ were considered to find similarity between a target feature and its neighborhood features and to detect hot spot and/or cold spot. Additionally, the significance test on clustered patterns by Z-scores was carried out. Statistical results showed variations of spatial patterns quantitatively in the whole year. Then all of general water quality, nutrients, chlorophyll-a and phytoplankton had strong clustered pattern in summer. When global indexes showed strong clustered pattern, the front region with a negative $I_i$ which means a strong spatial variation was observed. Also, when global indexes showed random pattern, hot spot and/or cold spot were/was found in the small local region with a local index $G_i{^*}$. Therefore, global indexes were useful for observing the strength and time series variations of clustered patterns in the whole study area, and local indexes were useful for tracing the location of hot spot and/or cold spot. Quantification of both spatial distribution pattern and clustering characteristics may play an important role to understand marine environment in depth and to find the reasons for spatial pattern.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel knowledge distillation algorithm to create an compressed deep ensemble network coupled with the combined use of local and global features of face images. In order to transfer the capability of high-level recognition performances of the ensemble deep networks to a single deep network, the probability for class prediction, which is the softmax output of the ensemble network, is used as soft target for training a single deep network. By applying the knowledge distillation algorithm, the local feature informations obtained by training the deep ensemble network using facial subregions of the face image as input are transmitted to a single deep network to create a so-called compressed ensemble DCNN. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed compressed ensemble deep network can maintain the recognition performance of the complex ensemble deep networks and is superior to the recognition performance of a single deep network. In addition, our proposed method can significantly reduce the storage(memory) space and execution time, compared to the conventional ensemble deep networks developed for face recognition.

  • The local environmental effects on the active galactic nucleus(AGN) activity has been studied by many authors, but there is still controversy. We performed statistical analysis for nearby(0.01 < z < 0.05) volume limited(Mr < -19) sample via visual inspection based on Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release7. We visually inspect around 50,000 galaxy images to find peculiar objects which show not only ongoing merging features and tidal features, but also post merging features like shell or ring structures. We found that the frequency of AGN host galaxies is at least 2 times higher among peculiar galaxies than non-peculiar galaxies, and this trend is still visible when galaxy properties such as color or stellar mass are fixed. Furthermore, L[OIII] of peculiar galaxies is found to be more increased than those of normal galaxies. The majority of the most luminous AGN hosts show peculiar feature, which indicates that the luminous AGN galaxies may be the result of the local environmental effects. In addition, the enhancement of L[OIII] in peculiar galaxies is more significant for bluer galaxies, which implies that AGN activity is enhanced effectively when gas is available. In order to ensure our results, we also checked it for a smaller subsample with 2 magnitude deeper monochromatic images provided by SDSS Stripe82 database, and found consistent results. Overall, the results of this study tell us that the local environment of galaxies affects the frequency as well as the strength of AGN activity.

  • Corylopsis coreana Uyeki is endemic species in the Korean peninsula and is designated a Category Endangered Plant Species by the Wildlife Protection Act of South Korea. We developed the plan and cooperative model within the local community for the species conservation. In order to carry out this plan we first investigated the ecological characteristics of the species. The species shows patterns of discontinuous distribution and is coupled with the unusual feature of only growing on northern exposed slopes. Although Corylopsis coreana is cut the stem every year, many new sprouts are still grown from the root. Natural germination of the seed occurs only on north-facing slopes, but not on south-facing slopes at spring. That is, the species is highly influenced by soil moisture until the seedling stage has been reached. This factor limits the distribution of the species. When saplings are planted on south-facing slopes, they grow well. The information we gathered greatly helped with efforts to draw up conservation plans. In addition, when the information was shared with the local community, builders and residents showed great interest and displayed a will to help with conservation efforts. Therefore, a cooperative model within the local community was drawn up for the conservation of the species. Accordingly this model could be applied at mitigation measure at environment impact assessment.

  • This study proposes new LDP code to improve facial expression recognition rate by including local directional number(LDN), edge magnitudes and differences of neighborhood edge intensity. LDP is less sensitive on the change of intensity and stronger about noise than LBP. But LDP is difficult to express the smooth area without changing of intensity and if background image has the similar pattern with a face, the facial expression recognition rate of LDP is low. Therefore, we make the LDP code has the local directional number and the edge strength and experiment the facial expression recognition rate of changed LDP code.
