This paper addresses the design of sliding model fuzzy-model-based controller using genetic algorithms. In general, the construction of fuzzy logic controllers has difficulties for the lack of systematic design procedure. To release this difficulties, the sliding model fuzzy-model-based controllers was presented by authors. In this proposed method, the fuzzy model, which represents the local dynamic behavior of the given nonlinear system, is utilized to construct the controller. The overall controller consists of the local compensators which compensate the local dynamic linear model and the feed-forward controller which is designed via sliding mode control theory. Although, the stability and the performance is guaranteed by the proposed method, some design parameters have to be chosen by the designer manually. This problem can be solved by using genetic algorithms. The proposed method tunes the parameters of the controller, by which the reasonable accuracy and the control effort is achieved. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed method are verified through simulations.
It is well known that Variable Structure Controller(VSC) is robust to parameters variation and disturbance but its performance depends on the design parameters such as switching gain and slope of sliding surface. This paper proposes a more robust VSC that is composed of local VSC's. Each local VSC considers the local system dynamics with narrow parameter variation and disturbance. First we optimize the local VSC's by use of Evolution Strategy, and next we use Artificial Neural Network to generalize the local VSC's and construct the overall VSC in order to cover the whole range of parameter variation and disturbance. Simulation on BLDC motor current control shows that the proposed VSC is superior to the conventional VSC.
In this paper, we present a method for the analysis and design of fuzzy controller for nonlinear systems. In the design procedure, we represent the dynamics of nonlinear systems using a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and formulate the controller rules, which shares the same fuzzy sets with the fuzzy system, using parallel distributed compensation method. Then, after the feedback gain of each local state feedback controller is obtained using the existing optimal pole-placement scheme, we construct an overall fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controller. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy-model-based controller design method has been evaluated through an inverted pendulum system.

In this paper, we suggest a hybrid genetic algorithm reinforced by a fuzzy logic controller (flc-HGA) to overcome weaknesses of conventional genetic algorithms: the problem of parameter fine-tuning, the lack of local search ability, and the convergence speed in searching process. In the proposed flc-HGA, a fuzzy logic controller is used to adaptively regulate the fine-tuning structure of genetic algorithm (GA) parameters and a local search technique is applied to find a better solution in GA loop. In numerical examples, we apply the proposed algorithm to a simple test problem and two complex combinatorial optimization problems. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional GAs and heuristics.
Decentralized model reference adaptive controller is used to control interconnected system. Influences caused by interactions between each subsystem are regarded as unmodeled dynamics or disturbances, thus decentralized adaptive controller is designed using MRAC algorithms which guarantees robustness. To expand the stability regions of over all system and to improve control performances, higher level controller is introduced to adjust the control factors such as filter band, size of deadzone or maximum norm of parameter. Local controllers for each subsystem are realized in real time and higher level controller has an ability of detecting the instability phenomena and adjusts the local controller by analysis of power spectrum or square sum of tracking errors.

Homing operation can be defined as a series of actions which are necessary for a mobile robot to move from the current position with any arbitrary orientation to a desired position with a specified orientation, while avoiding possible obstacles. In this paper, a homing and obstacle avoidance algorithm for nonholonomic mobile robots is proposed. The proposed algorithm consists of a local goal generator, a discrete state controller, and local path tracking controller based on Aicardi's path following algorithm. In the discrete state controller, 4 states are defined according to the environmental conditions and 4 desired high-level command for the states are given as follows: avoid, wander, home and homing zones. The proposed local goal generator is designed to generate the desired local path by using weighted distance transforms which are newly made to satisfy the nonholonomic constraints of mobile robots. Here, subgoals are also found as vertices of the desired local path. To demonstrate result effectiveness and applicability of the proposed algorithm, computer simulations are illustrated and experimental results for a real mobile robot system are also provided.

This paper addresses analysis and design of a class of complex single-input single-output fuzzy control
systems. In the proposed method, the fuzzy model, which represents the local dynamic behavior of the given
nonlinear system, is utilized to construct the controller. The overall controller consists of the local
compensators which compensate the local dynamic linear model and the feed-forward controller which is
designed via sliding mode control theory. Therefore, the globally stable fuzzy controller is designed without
finding a common Lyapunov matrix. and shows improved perfonnance and tracking results by taking the
advantages of fuzzy-model-based control theory and sliding mode control theory. Furthennore, stability
analysis is conducted not Ibr the fuzzy model but for the real underlying nonlinear system. Two numerical
examples are included to show the effcctiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy control method.
This paper presents a neural network method for tuning PlD controller of a time-varying process. Three gains of PlD controller are tuned for a certain desirable response pattern by back-propagation neural network. The neural network is trained using changes of output features vs. changes of PlD gains. But sometimes it needs longer training time and larger structure to train the correlation between the process and controller on entire region of the process. The difficulty in system identification is that the inverse function of the system can not be clearly stated. To cope with the problem, we do not train the neural network to respond correctly for the entire regions but train for only local region where the system is heading toward by training the neural network and tuning of the PlD controller. It may be trained for fine-tuning itself. Simulation results show that the adaptive PID controller using neural network trained in the local area performs remarkably for time-varying second order process.

This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex uncertain single-input single-output nonlinear systems. The proposed method represents the nonlinear system using a Takagi-Cugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controllers with a sliding mode controller. Unlike the commonly used parallel distributed compensation technique, we can design a global stable fuzzy controller without finding a common Lyapunov function for all local control systems, and can obtain good tracking performance by using sliding mode control theory. Furthermore, stability analysis is carried out not for the fuzzy model but for the real nonlinear system with uncertainties. Duffing forced oscillation sysmte is used as an example to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.
