The Impact of Underdog Positioning on Consumer Preference in Korea: Focusing on Local Service Providers

  • Purpose - Small independent brands from local companies often use underdog positioning to compete with established global brands. However, whether the effectiveness of underdog positioning of local businesses in the service sector remains insufficient. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the underdog effect on the preference of Korean consumers for individual service providers positioned as underdogs. Design/methodology - The author examines the research question of this study using a one-way ANOVA in three different positioning (underdog vs. top dog vs. control) between-subjects design, with a group of Korean participants. Findings - The experimental study shows that support for independent local (vs. global) service providers positioned as underdogs is straightforward. Using the lens of consumer identification with underdog biographies, this study found that consumers prefer small local service providers with passion and determination regardless of their disadvantages. Originality/value - To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first study to examine the effectiveness of underdog positioning in the context of individual service providers. As it competes with global service companies for domestic consumer preference in Korea, the findings have great implications for ensuring the sustainability of small local service providers.

아동친화적인 지역사회에 대한 부모와 아동관계자의 인식 비교 - A기초자치단체를 중심으로- (A Comparison of Assessment of Child Friendly Cities by Parents and Child Service Providers in Selected Local Government)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한 지역사회를 중심으로 부모와 아동관계자의 아동권리보장실태에 대한 인식을 살펴보고 아동친화도시를 구성하기 위한 방안을 모색하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울시의 한 기초자치단체에서 실시된 조사데이터를 활용하여 놀이, 지역사회 참여, 보건 및 사회서비스, 안전, 교육환경, 주거 부분에서의 인식차이를 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 6개 영역중 교육환경과 주거환경이 상대적으로 잘 보장되고, 지역사회참여는 덜 보장되고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 아동관계자들은 아동친화적 지역사회를 구성하기 위한 물리적 환경에 있어 더 부정적이었고, 부모는 참여권과 같은 제도적/문화적 환경에 더 부정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 다음과 같이 제안했다: 첫째, 아동친화도시를 구성하기 위한 기준 중 물리적 환경은 아동관계자의 기준을 참조하고, 제도문화적 환경은 부모의 기준을 참조해야 한다. 둘째, 지역사회 의사결정구조에 아동, 부모, 아동관계자의 참여를 확대해야 한다.

서울시 요양보호사 처우개선을 위한 지원방안 연구 (A study on the Improvement of Welfare System for Care Worker in Seoul)

  • Long-term care Insurance system for the Elderly was started to respond to the aged society on July 2008 in Korea. So responsibility of the care for the old is being changed from the family to the society. The introduction of that insurance system has brought the growth of demand for care service. To improve the level of quality for care service providers in long-term care, the role of care worker in providers is recognized as important. But welfare system for the care worker seems to be poor. So the Seoul Metropolitan Council is preparing an ordinance for the care worker and the purpose of this study is for the ordinance as well. Questionnaires, interviews, documentary surveys were used to carry out this study. The results of this study are summarized as follows. The job stability is the most important thing for the care worker, so local government has to make efforts to promote the job stability of care worker. A welfare center for care workers is needed for the health for care workers in the local government. And the local government has to supervise service providers more strictly and evaluate them in treatments of care worker.

보건의료복지 서비스제공자와 지역주민의 커뮤니티케어에 대한 인식 (Community care perceived by medical welfare service providers and residents dwelling in the community)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 보건의료복지 서비스제공자와 정책대상자인 지역주민의 커뮤니티케어에 대한 인식을 파악 및 비교하는 것이다. 연구대상자는 서울시 J구의 보건의료복지 서비스제공자 68명과 지역주민 95명이었다. 자료 수집은 2018년 12월에 이루어졌으며, independent t-test, chi-square test를 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과 서비스제공자가 지역주민에 비해 커뮤니티케어 정책의 필요성, 방문의료, 방문간호, 방문간병에 대한 동의 정도가 높았다. 돌봄이 필요한 지역주민을 지역사회자원에 연계해 줄 수 있는 정도에 대해서는 서비스제공자가 지각하는 수준이 높았으나, 자립생활을 위한 지역주민 간 자조모임의 활성화 정도는 지역주민이 높게 나타났다. 커뮤니티케어에 소요되는 비용을 위한 건강보험에 일정 보험료를 추가 방식에 대한 동의 정도는 지역주민에서 낮게 나타났다. 두 군 모두에서 커뮤니티케어 정책 실행을 위해 재원 마련과 지역공동체 돌봄 문화가 가장 중요하다고 인식하였다. 그러므로 커뮤니티케어 정책을 효과적으로 운영하기 위해 정책대상자인 지역주민의 인지 수준을 높이고, 정책현황과 정책대상자의 견해 차이를 줄이기 위한 활발한 교류를 통해 지역사회의 돌봄 문화를 정착해나가는 것이 필요하다.

망관리 정보에 기반한 국제로밍 서비스 품질 관리 기법 (International Roaming Service Management Methodology Based on Network Management Information)

  • International Roaming is a kind of telecommunication service that enables subscribers use the same mobile number when they go abroad and access other service provider's network. International roaming call is made through three network parts-home (original service provider) network, intermediate network, and local (overseas service provider) network. It is not possible to monitor every section of whole roaming service network because service providers do not provide their network management information to other service providers. The limitation causes harsh problem when a service anomaly arises and operators have to confirm the reason of failure. To solve this problem, we propose a scheme that deduces roaming service status of each overseas service provider using internal network management information. SK telecom implemented a international roaming service management system based on the scheme using performance measurement of signaling points, roaming service nodes, and charging data from existing network management systems.

일본 분양아파트의 생활서비스프로그램 운영실태 사례 연구 (A Case Study on the Operation and Management of Community Service Programs in Japanese Condominiums)

  • The Japanese housing market has implemented management and operation systems of community service ahead of the Korean market. This paper examines case studies of Japanese community services by reviewing related studies, studying homepages, and conducting in-depth interviews with management staff. The goal of this study is to find marketing strategies and the proper management practices in preparation for the upcoming low-fertility and aging society. The results of this study are as follows: 1) After Japan's bubble economy burst in 1985, so called that incorporated various community facilities with life services were introduced to the Japanese housing market in order to cope with the diversifying family types and lifestyles. This new trend was also due in part to customers' increasing demands for convenient urban condominiums. 2) In Japan, many developers and construction companies have run the management of community service programs and created new business models in collaboration with other affiliated companies. However, many of these programs have been found even more successful and reliable when the facility management companies collaborate with local service providers instead of relying solely on affiliated companies. 3) The early stage of life services began with "front-desk services", but these have evolved into more upgraded "concierge services" that can provide residents with tailored services and conveniences. Furthermore, some of the service providers have encouraged resident participation in the process of designing and implementing their community services. 4) In Korea, most construction companies and developers are still oriented toward providing hardware such as spaces and facilities in developing their community services. Therefore, companies with high market reputations must seek alternative ways to maintain and enhance their brand values by implementing new approaches in collaboration with both affiliated companies and local service providers. This can be done by finding new notions of managing and operating community services through research and development.

유비쿼터스 서비스 모델의 성과 평가 모형 개발에 관한 연구 : u-Health 서비스의 투자 타당성을 중심으로 (Development of Investment Evaluation Model for Ubiquitous Health Service)

  • The introduction of a ubiquitous environment has realized commercial ubiquitous services in various industrial fields and government area. The central and/or local governments are demanding an appropriate investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service. Thus, this study develops and suggests an evaluation model for ubiquitous service by reflecting its characteristic of promoting public good, as well as its broad ripple effect on people. The investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service suggested by this study is based on Cost Benefit Analysis Method. Especially, the 'Benefit' is analyzed in two aspects; 'Economic Benefit', which shows the benefit that ubiquitous service providers to the overall local economy, and; 'Financial Benefit', which shows the profit of individual investors participating in the introduction of ubiquitous service. The investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service suggested by this study can be used by the central and/or local government during their evaluation for investment before introducing a ubiquitous service. Also, when introducing a ubiquitous service in public field, the model can be used to support the decision making of private businesses for investment. Finally, it can be used to promote and inform the expected benefits of introducing a ubiquitous service to local residents.

허브 앤 스포크형 데이터 관리 및 블록체인 기술 융합 스마트도시 거버넌스 로직모델 (Smart City Governance Logic Model Converging Hub-and-spoke Data Management and Blockchain Technology)

  • This study aims to propose a smart city governance logic model that can accommodate more diverse information service systems by mixing hub-and-spoke and blockchain technologies as a data management model. Specifically, the research focuses on deriving the logic of an operating system that can work across smart city planning based on the two data governance technologies. The first step of the logic is the generation and collection of information, which is first divided into information that requires information protection and information that can be shared with the public, and the information that requires privacy is blockchainized, and the shared information is integrated and aggregated in a data hub. The next step is the processing and use of the information, which can actively use the blockchain technology, but for the information that can be shared other than the protected information, the governance logic is built in parallel with the hub-and-spoke type. Next is the logic of the distribution stage, where the key is to establish a service contact point between service providers and beneficiaries. Also, This study proposes the establishment of a one-to-one data exchange relationship between information providers, information consumers, and information processors. Finally, in order to expand and promote citizen participation opportunities through a reasonable compensation system in the operation of smart cities, we developed virtual currency as a local currency and designed an open operation logic of local virtual currency that can operate in the compensation dimension of information.

현장실사에 의한 의료 서비스품질 개선방안 모색 (Health-care Service Quality Improvement Using Walk-through Audit)

  • Purpose: Methods for increasing health-care service quality are considered for a women-centered hospital located on a local city. A walk-through audit is applied to uncover areas for improvement. Methods: A survey questionnaire with 25 questions is constructed based on a service blueprint for a walk-through audit, and a survey is conducted both to patients and service providers to assess a health-care service quality. Frequency analysis, statistical tests and customer-provider analysis are used to analyze surveyed data. Results: According to customer-provider analysis, 6 attributes belong to 'problem unawareness' zone in which they are rated high by service providers but low by patients, and another 6 attributes belong to 'problem awareness' zone in which they are rated low by both groups. These attributes are considered to be improved with priority. Conclusion: Both patient group and service provider group have lots of different perceptions on most attributes that are examined, and the hospital to be studied is, in general, competitive in technical quality and less competitive in functional quality.

빈곤계층과 사회복지서비스의 공간적 연계성 (Social Geography of Poverty and Social Welfare Services)

  • 최근 빈곤에 대한 사회지리학적 연구는 빈곤문제를 완화하고 해결하려는 의지를 반영하여 사회복지서비스와의 연계적 측면에서 이루어진다. 빈곤계층의 기본적인 욕구를 충족시키기 위한 다양한 사회복지서비스의 제공에도 불구하고 서비스제공자와 서비스수혜자의 공간적 불일치로 인하여 발생하는 접근성의 문제는 결과적으로 사회복지서비스의 공간적 불평등으로 이어진다. 부산시를 대상으로 빈곤계층과 사회복지서비스의 연계성을 사회지리학적 입장에서 연구한 본 연구의 결론도 이와 같은 사회복지서비스의 공간적 한계에서 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 1980년대 이후 급성장한 사회복지서비스의 양적 증대에도 불구하고 빈곤계층과 사회복지서비스시설간의 입지적 불일치는 상대적으로 복지서비스 공급에 있어서 과잉 및 과소지역을 초래하였다. 복지서비스의 과소공급지역을 중심으로 빈곤계층의 기본적인 욕구를 충족시키고 사회복지서비스의 공간적 불평등을 해결하기 위해서는 빈곤계층의 공간적 수요를 감안한 사회복지서비스시설의 유연적인 입지적 재분배가 요구된다.
