  • As the first of Philip Roth's recent series of novels that delve into American Cold War history deeply entwined with the post-war Jewish American experience, American Pastoral traces the tragic fall of a third-generation Jewish American named Seymour "Swede" Levov, whose dream of complete assimilation to the post-ethnic American paradise is irrecoverably disrupted when his young daughter blows up the local post office to protest against the Vietnam War. This essay proposes to examine Swede Levov's interrupted pursuit of the American dream by locating it within specific Cold War contexts and national imaginaries propagated particularly during the years from John F. Kennedy to Lyndon B. Johnson. In so doing, I will argue that Roth presents a paradoxical vision of Jewish American identity that could be acquired by performing perpetual self-effacement and submergence into the non-place of anonymity and doubleness, a mythic location of the post-ethnic Cold War American family. Levov's life becomes true part of the mythic narrative of American history when he realizes that his life, just like the nation's history, is a series of temporalities radically discontinued without any manageable detour ot divine bypass to cross over. Rather than indicating Roth's retraction from the postmodern understanding of subjectivity, the novel's historical realism, I will argue, serves to illuminate the postmodern conditions of American Cold War history and ethnic identity.

  • With the speedy technological advancement and growth of sensors, WSNs have become the key technology for IoT. This inspires us to design our proposed system in a Multiwireless sensor network-based IoT environment. The main objective of our work is to provide a challenging standard of scalability, efficiency, and security in a multi-WSN system. With the intention of accomplishing our goal, we have implemented identity authentication based on hybrid blockchain technology. In this Distributed Multi WSN based IoT environment, the nodes are grouped into several ordinary nodes, cluster head nodes and base stations. In order to form a hybrid blockchain model, the blockchain network is created in among diverse types of nodes. On the one hand, the ordinary node's identity authentication is performed by the local blockchain. On the other hand, the cluster head's identity authentication is performed by a global blockchain. Thus, our intended private and public blockchain ensures extraordinary security and performance in the entire multi-WSN network. On the whole, our system proved that our proposed scheme has attained good security, scalability, and energy efficiency.

  • This study intended to discover the communicative characteristics of libraries, such as locality, communality, interactivity, and organic vitality, and measure as to whether the components constituting them were appropriate, and based on the research results, it was intended to establish the role of public libraries based on communicative characteristics. As a result of the study, it finally turned out that the libraries had the four communicative characteristics of 'locality', 'communality', 'interactivity', and 'organic vitality'. The four communicative characteristics may be classified into 16 factors and 63 detailed factors accordingly. Examining the characteristics of library communication, first, locality means that local residents create and maintain the identity of a social, historical, and cultural locality while sharing the space of a library. In the library, the users can receive local life information or create a cultural identity of the locality through communication between the users. Second, communality is a fundamental factor in forming a community of local residents and represents the characteristics of a group formed based on place and geographical characteristics, culture and belief system, and interests. Third, interactivity refers to a kind of behavior in which users interact with other users, information providers, and books and information in the library to give and receive influence. The actions in which two or more objects share knowledge, thoughts, emotions, and opinions may be seen as being accomplished through interaction. Lastly, organic vitality means seeking the continuous maintenance and development of the community, and creating a lasting characteristic even in the changing environment of the library.

  • The post-war period has witnessed the emergence of new towns in a number of countries in Southeast Asia. New town development started in Malaysia with Petaling Jaya as a satellite town in 1953 to accommodate the rapid growing population of Kuala Lumpur. New towns have been designed in accordance with the British town planning principles, based on the modern ideal city. Nonetheless, they have constituted a regional character as they have incorporated local factors such as local technologies as well as site and climatic conditions. In the shaping of the new towns in modern cities, regulatory aspects have played important roles. The regulations decide the basic framework for planning of new town, block plan and unit plan. The ultimate goal of this study is to understand the identity of the new town planning of Malaysia. As a first step, we reviewed the local regulations, standards, and design guidelines which are applicable to the new town planning from the national land use to local plans. As a result, we categorized the guidelines into four areas: urban space, site plan, street system, block plan and unit plan. We expect this study to provide the framework of the Malaysia's new town planning from the perspective of the local regulations.
