Comparison of the Preference for Floor Temperature between Young and Old People in a Winter Season (겨울철 젊은이와 노인의 선호 바닥온도 비교)

  • Even in modern times, we are accustomed to the lifestyle of floor heating system in which the floor is heated for warmth like Ondol, which is the traditional Korean heating system. So, this study was designed to understand the preferred floor temperature through the questionnaires targeting the local residents living in K region. This study would also find out the floor temperature which is preferred by young people and old people through the experiments. The findings are as follows; (1) the old people do not prefer the temperature higher than young people do. It was found that the old people prefer the floor temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ or the floor temperature of $41^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. (2) Both young people and old people tend to like the average skin temperature of $35.5^{\circ}C$. The skin temperature which both young and old people like was $35.2^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $24^{\circ}C$ and the skin temperature preferred by young people was $0.4^{\circ}C$ higher than that preferred by under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ (p<0.01). (3) It was found in the questionnaires that the young people prefer the higher floor temperature in terms of age and that the people who get older in their 50s or higher tend to prefer the lower temperature.

Environmental Analysis of a Windowless Delivery Swine Building : Temperature and Relative Humidity (무창분만돈사의 온.습도 환경 분석)

  • Recently, local swine producers are rapidly adopting the indoor production system which developed in foreign countries. However, this imported system is reported as not functioning properly because of different climate conditions. The objective of this project was to investigate the environment characteristics of a windowless delivery swine building. The parameters studied were the heating and cooling loads, the daily changes of indoor temperature and relative humidity, the horizontal and the vertical distributions of indoor temperature, and the effect of mist cooling on indoor temperature. From this study, the following are founded : 1. The maximum cooling and heating loads were - 317.0kcal/㎡$.$h and 336.5kal/㎡$.$h in summer and in winter. The large loads seems to be on account of inappropriate operations of ventilating fans. 2. The daily variations of relative humidity in indoor were smaller than those in outside. Those values both in summer and in winter as relative humidities in door was lower than optimum for growing pigs, the additional humidifier might be helpful to increase the relative humidity in indoor. 3. The horizontal distribution of the indoor temperature was found to be uniform in the variation range of 1$^{\circ}C$. 4. The vertical distribution of the indoor temperature was not found to be uniform; the temperature of upper part was higher than that of slot part. 5. Average values of indoor temperature became lower by 3$^{\circ}C$ by mist cooling. But the variation of temperature was found to be larger; The middle part of the room was cooled down, but the corner part of the room was not affected by misting due to uneven nozzle configuration.

Rapid Thawing of Frozen Pork by 915 MHz Microwave (915 MHz Microwave를 이용한 동결 돈육의 급속 해동)

  • A study was conducted to find a rapid thawing method which prevents excessive drip loss and local overheating. Effects of thawing methods (conventional thawing vs. 2,450 and 915 MHz microwave thawing) on thawing time, temperature profile, drip loss, water holding capacity, total color difference and total aerobes were investigated. Samples were thawed at 4, 28 and $50^{\circ}C$ in a refrigerator or an oven for the conventional thawing methods the convertional thawing methods. Power levels of 5, 10 and 15 kW were used for 915MHz microwave thawing. Cotreatment of 915 MHz microwave and convectional heating $(120^{\circ}C)$ was tested. 915 MHz microwave accelerated the thawing rate, and showed significant effects on penetration depth, drip loss, water holding capacity and total aerobes. Cotreatment of 915 MHz microwave and convection heating was appeared to be a suitable thawing process for the food industry.

  • Cobalt-chromium alloys are used to fabricate various dental prostheses, and have advantages of low cost and excellent mechanical properties compared to other alloys. Recently, selective laser melting, which is an additive manufacturing method, has been used to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional fabrication method. A local rapid heating and cooling process of selective laser melting induces fine microstructures, grain refinement, and reduction of porosities of the alloys. Therefore, it can improve mechanical properties compared to the alloys fabricated by the conventional method. On the other hand, layering process and rapid heating and cooling cause accumulation of a large amount of residual stresses that can adversely affect the mechanical properties. A heat treatment for removing residual stresses through recovery and recrystallization process caused complicated changes in mechanical properties induced by phase transformation, precipitate and homogenization of the microstructures. The purpose of this review was to compare the manufacturing methods of Co-Cr alloys and to investigate the characteristics of Co-Cr alloys fabricated by selective laser melting.

Corrosion Failure Analysis of Flow Plate in Plate Heat Exchanger (판형 열교환기 전열판의 부식 파손 분석)

  • Corrosion failure analysis of the flow plate, which is one of the accessories of the plate heat exchanger in a district heating system, was performed. The flow plate is made of 316 stainless steel, and water at different temperatures in the flow plate exchanges heat in a non-contact manner. The flow plate samples in which water mixing issues occurred were collected. Corrosion-induced pits, oxides, and contaminants were observed at locations where two plates are regularly in contact. The EDS analysis of the surface oxides and contaminants revealed that they were composed of carbon, silicon, and magnesium, which came from chemical adhesives. The IC/ICP analyses showed that the concentration of chloride ions was 30 ~ 40 ppm, which was not sufficient to cause corrosion of stainless steel. In the crevice, a local decrease in dissolved oxygen occurs along with an increase in chloride ions, thus forming an acidic environment. These environments destroyed the passive film of stainless steel, resulting in pits. Moreover, contaminants formed a narrower gap between the two metal plates and inhibited the diffusion of ions, thereby accelerating crevice corrosion.

  • The suppression of high-intensity blob structures in the scrape-off layer (SOL) by ion-cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) power, leading to a decrease in the turbulent fluctuation level, is observed first in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) experiment. This suppression effect from ICRF power injection is global in the whole SOL at EAST, i.e. blob structures both in the regions that are magnetically connected to the active ICRF launcher and in the regions that are not connected to the active ICRF launcher could be suppressed by ICRF power. However, more ICRF power is required to reach the full blob structure suppression effect in the regions that are magnetically unconnected to the active launcher than in the regions that are magnetically connected to the active launcher. Studies show that a possible reason for the blob suppression could be the enhanced Er × B shear flow in the SOL, which is supported by the shaper radial gradient in the floating potential profiles sensed by the divertor probe arrays with increasing ICRF power. The local RF wave power unabsorbed by the core plasma is responsible for the modification of potential profiles in the SOL regions.

Durability and Characteristics of Ag-Pd Rod Heater for Bidet Fabricated by Screen Printing Process (스크린 프린팅 공정에 의해 제조된 비데용 Ag-Pd 봉형 발열체의 내구성 및 물성 평가 )

  • Heaters using the resistance heating principle are used in various industrial fields that require heat and are also essentially used in bidet among small home appliances. A planar heater and a coil-inserted heater mounted on a conventional commercially used bidet have disadvantages and limitations of complicated manufacturing process and local heating. In this study, silver-palladium (Ag-Pd) powder material was used for a screen-printing process that is more advantageous in achieving simplification than the existing process, and a rod-type heater for bidet was manufactured. The on-off cycle test under actual conditions was conducted to confirm the durability and the capability of the fabricated heater, and the fabricated heater operated more than 2,600 on-off cycles, which means it could be applied for a commercial product. In addition, through the on-off cycles under harsh conditions, the cause of failure was identified after the test that the durability limit temperature of the heater was 850℃. Through Ag-Pd rod heater in this study, it is expected to contribute to the efficient development of electrode materials for heaters and the improvement of the durability of heaters in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer without additional external power in the case of rectangular impingement air jet vertically on the flat heating surface. The technique used in the present study was placement of square rod bundles as a turbulence promoter in front of the heat transfer surface. The results obtained through this study were summerized as follws. High heat transfer enhancement was achieved by inserting rods in front of the heating flat plate. According to visulaization, it was examined because of flow acceleration and separation and disturbance of boundary layer. The smaller clerance between rod and heating plate was, the larger heat transfer effect became at each H/B. Arverage Nusselt number reached maximum at H/B=10 and the local augmentation rate of heat transfer became maximum at H/B=2. The maximum average heat transfer enhancement rate increase about 43% for the case of X/B=2 and C=1mm, compared to a flat plate without rods. The correlating equation of average Nusselt number and Reynolds number was obatined. As follws : ${\overline{Nu}}_0=1.249Re^{0.465}(C/A)^{-0.033}(H/B)^{0.013}$.

Virtual Analysis of District Heating System Using ENetPLAN (EnetPLAN을 이용한 지역난방시스템 가상 운전 분석)

  • In this study, in order to solve the problem of the program of calculating code input by experienced users in the power generation, the wide area energy network research group developed the local heating operation analysis program EntPLAN, which can be easily used by anyone, including scalability, with domestic technology. Therefore, the Commission intended to compare the heat sources, heat demand, and the results of operation of the combined heat plant (CHP) on the energy network through simulation with the EnetPLAN and the program A on the market. The results showed that the heat and power output on the energy network of the EnetPLAN and A programs were mostly similar in pattern in the simulation results of the heat supply and the operation method of the accumulator. This enabled the application of the simulation for the various operation modes of the cogeneration facilities existing on the energy network. It is expected that EntPLAN, which was developed with domestic technology, will be easily applied in the field in the future and will present efficient operation simulation results.

Growth Rate study of CPAE Cells and Osteobalst by Local Hyperthermia Duplex Stainless Steel Thermo-rod (국소온열치료용 듀플렉스 스테인리스 스틸 발열체에 의한 혈관세포와 골세포의 온도에 따른 성장률 변화 관찰)

  • We investigated the cell growth rate according to the change of temperature of the Thermo-rod used for the local hyperthermia therapy. For this study, we fabricated the Thermo-rods (TR) using Duplex Stainless Steels having magnetic properties as well as non magnetic properties. To evaluate cell growth rates up to 15 days, we conducted cell proliferation test using cell counting methods. For the tests, the CAPEs and Osteoblats were seeded on the 6-we11 plates with the induction heated thermo-rods 30 mins a day for 15 days with 2 days interval and without induction heated thermo-rods as control group respectively. We calculated cell growth rates, 6 hours after heating. From the results, in case of CAPEs and Osteobalsts seeded groups, the cell growth rates in all groups increased drastically for 6 days after seeding, but decreased irregularly after 6 days. In conclusion, the cell growth rates showed no significant difference among all groups and it indicated that there were no effects of temperate ($41^{\circ}C$) on cell growth rates.
