A Study on the Safe Position from the Local Fire in the Ship's Engine Rooms

  • Control devices for fire safety systems located in a engine room are to be arranged at a safe position which is easily accessible during a fire. To develop an interpretation for the safe position in engine rooms, calculation and experiments are carried out to determine a correlation between radiant heat and distance from fire in this paper. On the basis of results of this research, the control devices for a main engine are to be installed in the behind side of an obstruction to reduce radiant heat from the fire of the main engine. In case of other control devices, they are also to be provided in the same manner of control devices for the main engine or are to be placed with 5 meters far from fire hazards.

  • 유리온실에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있는 보는 최대한 가벼운 중량을 유지하면서, 요구되는 휨모멘트 강도와 좌굴 강도를 만족시켜야 한다. 이 연구에서는 유리온실의 보 및 기둥 부재로 최근에 제안된 트러스웹을 가진 보의 실무적인 적용성을 확립하기 위해서 휨거동과 좌굴거동을 해석적으로 분석하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 횡좌굴 및 국부좌굴을 고려한 부재설계 프로세스를 제시하였다. 또한 유한요소 해석결과를 바탕으로 횡좌굴 혹은 국부좌굴을 지연시킴으로서 단면성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 개선안을 제시하였다.

  • As computer vision algorithms are developed on a continuous basis, the visual information from vision sensors has been widely used in the context of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), called visual SLAM, which utilizes relative motion information between images. This research addresses a visual SLAM framework for online localization and mapping in an unstructured seabed environment that can be applied to a low-cost unmanned underwater vehicle equipped with a single monocular camera as a major measurement sensor. Typically, an image motion model with a predefined dimensionality can be corrupted by errors due to the violation of the model assumptions, which may lead to performance degradation of the visual SLAM estimation. To deal with the erroneous image motion model, this study employs a local bundle optimization (LBO) scheme when a closed loop is detected. The results of comparison between visual SLAM estimation with LBO and the other case are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

경북지역과 미국 뉴욕주 패킹하우스의 운영 실태 비교분석 (The Comparative Study of Packing House System for Apple Industry between Kyungpook Province and New York State)

  • Packing house is the regional center in which packing, sorting, storage, and selling of harvested fruits are taken care of all together. It is located at the producing centers, and commercializes their apples. Apple grading policies of chief producing centers should concentrate on enhancing functions and roles of its local packing house. Consequently new packing house policies for enacting individual grading standards at national and local levels should be developed. This study is to develop Korea packing house on the basis of field survey in New York State. Increasing the utilization of packing house is the main key to the success of apple grading project. Therefore, effective arrangement and utilization of sorting facilities should be evaluated and new system which enables apple farms, local cooperatives, and corporations to joint-utilize packing house must to be established.

External Beau Radiation Therapy of Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate

  • The record of radiation therapy cases during a five year period at the University of Michigan Hospitals has been analyzed. Of a total of 73 adenocarcinoma of prostate, the majority belonged to Stage B and C which represented 49 and 20 cases, respectively. The mortality rate after irradiation was clearly related to the tumor stage. Local irradiation resulted in $88\%$ of the local control of well·differentiated adenocarcinomas. Stage C cases had $50\%$ mortality, whereas that of Stage B patients was $14\%$. Results of this study are in general agreement with previous data in terms of the local disease control after irradiation and provide a basis for conservative radiotherapy regimen as an approach in the treatment of localized prostatic carcinomas.

Master Plan for Tropical Glasshouse Botanical Garden using Local Culture Resources - Focused on Botanical Garden in Gyeongju Area -

  • This study is performed to establish the basis of the development of unique tropical botanical garden that will be connected with the identity of the local inheritance resources, 'Silla'. The glasshouse is the traditional 'Silla; housing and the landscape facilities are tried to imagine 'Silla' kingdom. Combination of the plant exhibition and the cultural inheritance resources can create their own unique theme. The garden divided into five spaces by life cycles of plants and the purpose of appreciation, the palm garden, ornamental foliage garden, flower garden, water lily garden, and tropical fruits garden. The appropriate flowers and trees are selected by their flowering time and the purpose of enjoyment. Especially, Ficus religiosa is the symbol plant of buddhism which is the state religion of 'Silla'.

Geometrically Nonlinear Analysis of Eccentrically Stiffened Plates

  • A displacement-based finite element method Is presented for the geometrically nonlinear analysis of eccentrically stiffened plates. A nonlinear degenerated shell element and a nonlinear degenerated eccentric isoparametric beam (isobeam) element are formulated on the basis of Total Agrangian and Updated Lagrangian descriptions. In the formulation of the isobeam element, some additional local decrees of freedom are implementd to describe the stiffener's local plate buckling modes. Therefore this element can be effectively employed to model the eccentric stiffener with fewer D.O.F's than the case of a degenerated shell element. Some detailed buckling and nonlinear analyses of an eccentrically stiffened plate are performed to estimate the critical buckling loads and the post buckling behaviors including the local plate buckling of the stiffeners discretized with the degenerated shell elements and the isobeam elements. The critical buckling loads are found to be higher than the analytical plate buckling load but lower than Euler buckling load of the corresponding column, i.e, buckling strength requirements of the Classification Societies for the stiffened plates.

  • The LRFD Specification defines two sets of limiting width-to-thickness ratios. On the basis of these limiting values, steel sections we subdivided into three categories: compact, noncompact, and slender sections. A compact section is capable of developing a fully plastic stress distribution (plastic moment), and can sustain rotations approximately three times beyond the yield before the possibility of local buckling arises. Noncompact sections can develop the yield stress before local buckling occurs. They may not, however, resist local buckling at the strain levels required to develop the fully plastic stress distribution. In this paper, 1-Type girders of a 2 span continuous steel bridge are divided into compact and non-compact sections and analyzed. In the design process, an optimization skill was adopted and ADS, a Fortran program for Automated Design Synthesis, was used.

  • In this article an explanation of monotonicity of functions and the definition of local extrema in Korean highschool textbooks based on national curriculum(revised in 2007) are analyzed critically. On the basis of this analysis, we indicate some problems and propose its improvements.

지방정부 재정건전화 방안-천안시를 중심으로- (Local Government Fiscal Consolidation Measures-Focusing on Cheonan-)

  • 본 논문은 천안시 공무원들의 인식조사를 통해 지방자치단체의 재정건전성 확보방안을 마련하는데 목적이 있다. 선행연구를 분석해본 결과, 지방정부의 재정건전성은 자치단체를 둘러싸고 있는 사회, 경제, 인구, 정치 등 다양한 요인들에 의해 복합적으로 영향을 받고 있음을 발견하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 자치단체의 재정실태관련 지표, 재정건전성 관련 지표, 재정건전성을 높이기 위한 지표를 도출했다. 천안시의 재정 건전성을 확보하기 위해서는 재정운영의 효율성을 높여야 한다. 재정운영 효율성을 높이기 위해서는 지역주민의 재정감시 및 통제 장치 마련, 투자심사분석제도 활성화 등이 필요하다. 또한 효율적인 채무관리를 위해서는 자치단체의 자율적인 통제기능이 강화되어야 한다. 지방 재정의 확충을 위해 국고보조사업의 지방비 부담을 인하해야하며, 사용료 요율의 현실화가 필요하다. 지방재정운영의 발전은 중앙정부, 지방정부, 지역주민의 연계망 속에서 자율과 통제의 조화 통해 이루어져야 한다. 또한 계획수립-자원배분-평가-환류시스템을 체계적으로 구축하여 재원이 실질적으로 주민복지향상 및 지역개발투자에 배분될 수 있도록 해야 한다.
