Quantitative Damage Model of Steel Members under Severe Seismic Loading (강한 지진하중하에서 강부재의 정량적인 손상 모델)

  • In this paper, the previous damage models for structures and their components under seismic repeated loading were reviewed systematically. A failure criterion for steel members under severe cyclic excitations as in strong earthquakes was described. A new approach to seismic damage assessment for steel members was proposed. This method was based on a series of the experimental and numerical investigations for steel members under very low cyclic loading. In this study, very low cyclic loading means repetitive loading, 5 to 20 loading cycles, within the large plastic range. The proposed damage assessment method was focused on the local strain history at the cross-section of the most severe concentration of deformation.

  • Residual stress by welding should be reduced because that decreases the reliability on strength of welded structure. The reason is that the total stiffness of structure decreases by non-linear behavior of weldment under external load. The release of residual stress by mechanical loading and unloading is often performed in the fabrication of box structure for steel bridge. The proper degree of loading and unloading is significant at release method of residual stress by mechanical loading because that degree is changed by material and geometric shape of welded structure. Therefore, the simulation model that could exactly analyze the release of residual stress by mechanical loading is to be necessary. This simulation model should be established on the based of variable and accurate measurement data. In this study, the non-linear behavior of weldments under external loading and unloading, such as the decrease and increase of structure stiffness, was investigated by monitoring of nominal stress and strain. Tensile loading and unloading test under variable load was performed and the proper degree of stress relaxation was measured by sectioning technique using strain gauge.

  • In this work, ramp loading scratch method was used to evaluate the scratch characteristics of HDD media and ZnO thin films. Commercially available HDD media and ZnO thin films grown on silicon(100) substrate by sol-gel method were used. As for the ZnO films, the effects of annealing temperature after the film deposition process were also investigated. A custom built scratch tester was used to scratch the specimen under a ramp loading condition. The scratch track formed by ramp loading was measured by optical microscope and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The wear depth and width were used to assess the scratch characteristics of the HDD Media and ZnO thin films. The results showed that ZnO film annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ had the best scratch resistance property. Also, the HDD media showed overall better scratch resistance than the ZnO films.

  • Aim of this work is to prepare poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles by dialysis method without surfactant and to investigate drug loading capacity and drug release. The size of PLGA nanoparticles was 269.9 $\pm$118.7 nm in intensity average and the morphology of PLGA nanoparticies was spherical shape from the observation of SEM and TEM. In the effect of drug loading contents on the particle size distribution, PLGA nanoparticles were monomodal pattern with narrow size distribution in the empty and lower drug loading nanoparticles whereas bi- or trimodal pattern was showed in the higher drug loading ones. Release of clonazepam from PLGA nanoparticles with higher drug loading contents was slower than that with lower loading contents.

  • Nafion ionomer located in electrode helps to increase the platinum utilization and proton conductivity. To achieve higher performance in PEMFCs, it is important an optimum Nafion content in the electrode. As the platinum loading and fabricated method depend on the optimum Nafion content. In this study, we have examined the interrelationship between platinum loading and Nafion content fabricated by decal transfer method. For electrodes with 0.25 and 0.4 mg/$cm^2$ Pt loading, best performance was obtained at 25 wt.% Nafion ionomer loading. It is also found that MEA with 0.25 mg/$cm^2$ Pt, the optimum Nafion content appears differently at low and high current density.

  • The effect of partially restrained(PR) connections and the uncertainties in them on the reliability of steel frames subjected to seismic loading is addressed. A stochastic finite element method(SFEM) is proposed combining the concepts of the response surface method(RSM), the finite element method(FEM), the first-order reliability method (FORM), and the iterative linear interpolation scheme. The behavior of PR connections is captured using moment-relative rotation curves, and is represented by the four-parameter Richard model. For seismic excitation, the loading, unloading, and reloading behavior at PR connections is modeled using moment-relative rotation curves and the Masing rule. The seismic loading is applied in the time domain for realistic representation. The reliability of steel frames in the presence of PR connections is calculated considering all major sources of nonlinearity. The algorithm is clarified with the help of an example.

  • Suction Drain Method is soft ground improvement technique, in which a vacuum pressure can be directly applied to the Vertical Drain Board to promote consolidation and strengthening the soft ground. This method does not require a surcharge load, different to embankment or Preloading Method. In this study, ground improvement efficiency of suction drain method was estimated when duplex loading pressure with vacuum and pressure. During suction drain method process, surface settlement and pore pressure were monitored, and cone resistance test as well as water content were also measured after the completion of Suction Drain Method treatment.

  • The effect of 5 typical rise ratio(h/a=2/9, 5/18, l/3, l/2, 2/3) on the buckling characteristics of single-layer latticed domes with rectangular network under the external pressure are the theoretically studied on the basis of geometically nonlinear FEM and shell analogy method.   • Numerical analysis method for prediction of pile behaviour characteristics has widely been used in detail design process before construction because field static loading test requires high cost. However, the reliability verification of numerical analysis of result is not permitted compare with field test. In this study, to verify the numerical analysis results, pile behaviour prediction was compared with field static loading test results. For exact analysis of interaction between pile and ground, soil investigation and in-situ test such as boring, SPT and bore-hole shear test were performed before pile static loading test. During the static loading test, pile behaviour characteristics were analyzed under every loading condition. After static pile loading test, numerical analysis was carried out under same condition with static pile loading test. In the numerical analysis, to apply same loading condition with each loading condition in the field test and to compare with between the results of numerical analysis, the field test results for reliability were verified with the results of numerical analysis.
