  • The objective of this study is to clarify analytically the pullout behavior of axial bars from a footing. The bond stress-slip model obtained from the results by the finite element method as well as the pullout tests in massive concrete was used in order to evaluate the slip of bars from the footing. Also, the process of bond mechanism was taken into consideration on order to express the deterioration of bond stress along bars, The shape and magnitude of bond stress distribution depends upon each loading steps. Using equilibrium equation of axial force, $\tau$-S relationship and $\sigma$s-$\varepsilon$s relationship, the differential equations of each loading steps are derived. Applying both boundary and equilibrium conditions to the equations, the amount of slip could be determined. Calculated values on the basis of proposed method evaluation of the slip of bars have a good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, free vibration, forced vibration, resonance and stress wave propagation behavior in nanocomposite plates reinforced by wavy carbon nanotube (CNT) are studied by a mesh-free method based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The plates are resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation and subjected to periodic or impact loading. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In the mesh-free analysis, moving least squares (MLS) shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of motion equation and the transformation method is used for imposition of essential boundary conditions. Effects of CNT distribution, volume fraction, aspect ratio and waviness, and also effects of elastic foundation coefficients, plate thickness and time depended loading are examined on the vibrational and stresses wave propagation responses of the nanocomposite plates reinforced by wavy CNT.

  • Installing vibration isolation in structures, such as structures adjacent to subways, may be delicatebecause of the proximity with the vibration source or because of the wave propagation path. This paper discusses on method that install isolation Pads on underground walls as a part of the vibration mitigation system, and also on its efficiency, The proposed method is proven to affect significantly the distribution of acceleration in the neighborhood of the structure and to reduce efficiently the maximum amplitude of the vibration. It is also seen that installing isolating pads until the depth of the foundations and deeper is more efficient than installing such device separately from the structure. This Study being limited to the comparison of installation methods, further Studies considering the thickness, stiffness and other parameters should be required.

  • The buckling and vibration characteristics of stiffened plates subjected to in-plane concentrated edge loading are studied using finite element method. The problem involves the effects of non-uniform stress distribution over the plate. Buckling loads and vibration frequencies are determined for different plate aspect ratios, boundary edge conditions and load positions. The non-uniform stresses may also be caused due to the supports on the edges. The analysis presented determines the initial stresses all over the region considering the pre-buckling stress state for different kinds of loading and edge conditions. In the structural modeling, the plate and the stiffeners are treated as separate elements where the compatibility between these two types of elements is maintained. The vibration characteristics are discussed and the results are compared with those available in the literature and some interesting new results are obtained.

  • In this paper optimization of volume fraction distribution in a thick hollow cylinder with finite length made of two-dimensional functionally graded material (2D-FGM) and subjected to steady state thermal and mechanical loadings is considered. The finite element method with graded material properties within each element (graded finite elements) is used to model the structure. Volume fractions of constituent materials on a finite number of design points are taken as design variables and the volume fractions at any arbitrary point in the cylinder are obtained via cubic spline interpolation functions. The objective function selected as having the normalized effective stress equal to one at all points that leads to a uniform stress distribution in the structure. Genetic Algorithm jointed with interior penalty-function method for implementing constraints is effectively employed to find the global solution of the optimization problem. Obtained results indicates that by using the uniform distribution of normalized effective stress as objective function, considerably more efficient usage of materials can be achieved compared with the power law volume fraction distribution. Also considering uniform distribution of safety factor as design criteria instead of minimizing peak effective stress affects remarkably the optimum volume fractions.

  • With the rapid development of the distributed strain sensing (DSS) technology, the strain becomes an alternative monitoring parameter to analyze slope stability conditions. Previous studies reveal that the horizontal strain measurements can be used to evaluate the deformation pattern and failure mechanism of soil slopes, but they fail to consider various influential factors. Regarding the horizontal strain as a key parameter, this study aims to investigate the stability condition of a locally loaded slope by adopting the variable-controlling method and conducting a strength reduction finite element analysis. The strain distributions and factors of safety in different conditions, such as slope ratio, soil strength parameters and loading locations, are investigated. The results demonstrate that the soil strain distribution is closely related to the slope stability condition. As the slope ratio increases, more tensile strains accumulate in the slope mass under surcharge loading. The cohesion and the friction angle of soil have exponential relationships with the strain parameters. They also display close relationships with the factors of safety. With an increasing distance from the slope edge to the loading position, the transition from slope instability to ultimate bearing capacity failure can be illustrated from the strain perspective.

  • Thermo-mechanical buckling problem of functionally graded (FG) nanoplates supported by Pasternak elastic foundation subjected to linearly/non-linearly varying loadings is analyzed via the nonlocal elasticity theory. Two opposite edges of the nanoplate are subjected to the linear and nonlinear varying normal stresses. Elastic properties of nanoplate change in spatial coordinate based on a power-law form. Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is exploited to describe the size dependency of nanoplate. The equations of motion for an embedded FG nanoplate are derived by using Hamilton principle and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. Navier's method is presented to explore the influences of elastic foundation parameters, various thermal environments, small scale parameter, material composition and the plate geometrical parameters on buckling characteristics of the FG nanoplate. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling can provide accurate results of the FG nanoplates as compared some cases in the literature. Numerical examples show that the buckling characteristics of the FG nanoplate are related to the material composition, temperature distribution, elastic foundation parameters, nonlocality effects and the different loading conditions.

  • A dynamic reliability model which can take into account the time history of loading sequences may be applied to the analyses of the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. All the parameters related to the stability of structures have been considered to be constants in the deterministic model until now. Thus, it is impossible to study the effects of some uncertainties of the related random variables on the stability of structures. In this paper, the dynamic reliability model can be developed by POT(Peak Over Threshold) method in order to take into account the time history of loading sequences and to investigate the temporal behaviors of stability of structure with its loading history. Finally, it is confirmed that the results of dynamic reliability model agree with straight- forwardly those of AFDA(Approximate Full Distribution Approach) of the static reliability model for the same input conditions. In addition, the temporal behaviors of probability of failure can be studied by the dynamic reliability model developed to analyze the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. Therefore, the present results may be useful for the management of repair and maintenance over the whole life cycle of structure.

  • Noises from the large scale marine propeller are calculated numerically on non-cavitation condition. The hydrodynamic analysis is carried out by potential based panel method with time marching free wake approach. The distribution of hydrodynamic loads on the propeller surface and noise signals are obtained using the unsteady Bernoulli's equation and the Farasssat's formula respectively. It turns out that the noise signal at the narrow band shows strong peak at the blade passage frequency, and the peak value at the 1/3 octave band also shows the same trend. Noise signals and directivity patterns for both the thickness and the loading noise are compared with each other. The directivity pattern for the loading noise shows minor lobe at the backward side of the rotating disc plane.
