횡하중에 강한 새로운 말뚝의 개발을 위한 기초 연구 (Fundamental Study for the Development of a New Pile under Lateral Load)

  • 본 논문에서는 새로 제안된 외말뚝의 횡하중에 대한 거동과 사면에서의 억지말뚝으로서의 거동에 관하여 연판하였다. 특히 기존의 원형PC말뚝을 대신할 수 있는 새로운 말뚝의 단면을 실험을 통하여 결정하고 이에 대하여 외 말뚝으로서의 수평력에 대한 거동과 사면에서의 안전율 증진 효과를 고찰하였다. 연구 결과 새로운 형태의 말뚝은 외말뚝으로서는 동일한 청하중에 대하여 말뚝의 최대 변위량 이 기존의 원형PC말뚝보다 훨씬 작은 것으로 평가되었으며, 허용변위량에 대한 수평 하중은 증가하였다. 또한 사면에서의 거동을 비교한 결과 동일한 조건에서 안전율이 원형 PC말뚝보다 증가하며 안전율을 동일하게 할 경우 원형PC말뚝보다 말뚝의 수량을 줄일 수 있어 더 경제적이라 할 수 있을 것이다.

Design of Truncated Mooring Line Model in KRISO's Deepwater Ocean Engineering Basin

  • The present work was an attempt to investigate the applicability of truncated mooring systems to KRISO's deep ocean engineering basin (DOEB) with ratios of 1:100, 1:60, and 1:50. The depth of the DOEB is 15 m. Therefore, the corresponding truncated depths for this study were equal to 1500 m, 900 m, and 750 m. The investigation focused on both the static and dynamic characteristics of the mooring system. It was shown, in a static pull-out test, that the restoring force of a FPSO vessel could be modified to a good level of agreement for all three truncation cases. However, when the radius of the mooring site was reduced according to the truncation factor, the surge motion response during a free-decay test showed a significant difference from the full-depth model. However, the reduction of this discrepancy was achieved by increasing the radius up to its maximum possible value while considering the size of the DOEB. Especially, in terms of the time period, the difference was reduced from 24.0 to 5.3 s for a truncation ratio of 1:100, 54.1 to 8.6 s for a truncation ratio of 1:60, and 31.7 to 3.9 s for a truncation ratio of 1:50. As a result, the study verified the applicability of the truncated mooring system to the DOEB, and therefore it could represent the full-depth mooring system relatively well in terms of the static and dynamic conditions.

강·반강 철골 접합부의 분류체계에 관한 연구 (Classification system for figid and semi-rigid connection)

  • 골조의 보-기둥 접합부는 보통 강접합과 반강접합 또는 핀접합으로 구성된 분류체계에서 평가되어 진다. 대표적인 분류체계로는 EC3와 Bjorhovede등에 의한 체계가 있다. 그런데 EC3의 경우 강접합과 반강접합 사이의 경계값은 접합부의 모멘트 강도와 강성 면에서 너무나 높은 제한선을 가지고 있고, Bjorhovede등의 경우 강접합일 때의 거동을 표현하는데 부적한 강성을 갖을 수 있다는 문제점을 안고 있다. 본 연구에서는 스프링으로 모델링된 접합부를 갖는 비가새 1층 1경간의 골조를 대상으로 기둥에 대한 보의 강성비 ($\rho$)와 보에 대한 접합부의 강성비(k)로 완전 강접 골조의 임계하중과 접합부를 갖는 골조의 임계하중을 비교하여, 수정된 분류체계를 제안한다. 제안된 분류체계가 EC3나 Bjorhovede등과 비교할 때 실용적이고 실제적임을 실험데이터를 이용해서 검증하였다.

${\Delta}J$-적분을 이용한 점탄성 재료의 피로균열 성장분석 (Analysis of Fatigue Crack Growth in a Viscoelastic Material using ${\Delta}J$-integral)

  • 본 논문에서는 점탄성 재료의 피로균열 성장을 분석하기 위해 ${\Delta}J$-적분을 이용하였다. J-적분의 계산 시 기존의 수치해석 방법이 아닌 해석적인 적분 해를 도출하여 계산시간을 절감하고 정확도를 크게 높였다. 계산 시 응력확대계수는 특정 균열에 대해 참조하는 방법이 아닌 유한요소해석을 통해 구하는 방법을 사용하였다. 기존의 ${\Delta}K$를 이용한 피로균열 예측과는 달리 크리프 변형계수, 단 두 개의 피로성장 모델 변수만을 가지고 다양한 하중과 하중주기에서의 피로균열 성장을 성공적으로 분석할 수 있었다.

수질유해물질의 지정 및 배출허용기준 설정 시 고려해야 하는 복합적 요인에 대한 고찰: 위해성 저감을 중심으로 (The Various Factors which Should Be Considered in Classifying Toxic Substances in Water and Deriving Their Effluent Limits: Focusing on the Reduction of Risk)

  • The use of toxic chemicals was extended as the industry in Korea has grown dramatically during the last three decades. However, list of toxic substances and limit concentrations in the water environment are not consistent within management of ambient water, drinking water and industrial effluent. This article suggests the systematic framework to classify toxic substances in the water environment and deriving their effluent limits. The most important factor for decision-making to classify toxic substances is whether their concentrations in the water environment are higher than the reference concentrations, estimated by considering human health risk and ecological risk. Using a risk-based reference concentration, the ambient water quality criterion, it is possible to derive the regulatory limit concentrations of toxic substances in drinking water and in industrial effluent. The goal concentrations in the effluent, which guarantee the human and ecological safety, should be determined with scientific investigation, balancing environmental benefit and economical effect, considering availability of treatment technology and identifying characteristics of wastewater from different industries.

박용엔진 피스톤 스커트 프로파일 변경에 의한 마찰손실(FMEP) 저감 연구 (Friction Power Loss Reduction for a Marine Diesel Engine Piston)

  • The piston of a marine diesel engine works under severe conditions, including a combustion pressure of over 180 bar, high thermal load, and high speed. Therefore, the analyses of the fatigue strength, thermal load, clamping (bolting) system and lubrication performance are important in achieving a robust piston design. Designing the surface profile and the skirt ovality carefully is important to prevent severe wear and reduce frictional loss for engine efficiency. This study performs flexible multi-body dynamic and elasto-hydrodynamic (EHD) analyses using AVL/EXCITE/PU are performed to evaluate tribological characteristics. The numerical techniques employed to perform the EHD analysis are as follows: (1) averaged Reynolds equation considering the surface roughness; (2) Greenwood_Tripp model considering the solid_to_solid contact using the statistical values of the summit roughness; and (3) flow factor considering the surface topology. This study also compares two cases of skirt shapes with minimum oil film thickness, peak oil film pressure, asperity contact pressure, wear rate using the Archard model and friction power loss (i.e., frictional loss mean effective pressure (FMEP)). Accordingly, the study compares the calculated wear pattern with the field test result of the piston operating for 12,000h to verify the quantitative integrity of the numerical analysis. The results show that the selected profile and the piston skirt ovality reduce friction power loss and peak oil film pressure by 7% and 57%, respectively. They also increase the minimum oil film thickness by 34%.

비상 발전기를 이용한 유도전동기의 소프트 기동 시스템 (Soft Start System of Induction Motor using Emergency Generator)

  • In general, in an emergency generator system for an electric facility including an induction motor load, an emergency power generation facility larger than the facility load capacity is built due to the initial starting current of the induction motor. In order to reduce this economic burden, various methods to reduce the inrush current of induction motors are applied to suppress the additional expansion of generators due to the reduction of power generation facilities and the increase in electrical facilities. Among these methods, when a system with a built-in soft start function of an induction motor using an inverter is built, it is the best way to reduce the inrush current of the induction motor to less than the rated current. However, in this case, the installation cost of the inverter to drive the induction motor increases. This paper proposes a soft start method of an induction motor by expanding the frequency and voltage control operation area of an emergency generator. In addition, proposed a speed calculation method based on power factor information, which is essential information for stable soft start of an induction motor, and a method for generating a speed command value of the governor for starting with maximum torque.

Modified p-y curves to characterize the lateral behavior of helical piles

  • This study introduces soil resistance multipliers at locations encompassed by the zone of influence of the helix plate to consider the added lateral resistance provided to the helical pile. The zone of influence of a helix plate is a function of its diameter and serves as a boundary condition for the modified soil resistance springs. The concept is based on implementing p-multipliers as a reduction factor for piles in group action. The application of modified p-y springs in the analysis of helical piles allows for better characterization and understanding of the lateral behavior of helical piles, which will help further the development of design methods. To execute the proposed method, a finite difference program, HPCap (Helical Pile Capacity), was developed by the authors using Matlab. The program computes the deflection, shear force, bending moment, and soil resistance of the helical pile and allows the user to freely input the value of the zone of influence and Ω (a coefficient that affects the value of the p-multiplier). Results from ten full-scale lateral load tests on helical piles embedded at depths of 3.0 m with varying shaft diameters, shaft thicknesses, and helix configurations were analyzed to determine the zone of influence and the magnitude of the p-multipliers. The analysis determined that the value of the p-multipliers is influenced by the ratio between the pile embedment length and the shaft diameter (Dp), the effective helix diameter (Dh-Dp), and the zone of influence. Furthermore, the zone of influence is recommended to be 1.75 times the helix diameter (Dh). Using the numerical analysis method presented in this study, the predicted deflections of the various helical pile cases showed good agreement with the observed field test results.

미시역학적 파손 기준을 이용한 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재 링크의 안전성 평가 (Safety Evaluation of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composite Link Using Micromechanics of Failure Criterion)

  • 본 연구에서는 경량화를 위해 금속 링크를 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재 링크로 대체하고자 파손 기준을 이용하여 복합재 링크가 주어진 하중 조건을 견딜 수 있는지를 평가하였다. 복합재의 파손 양상을 예측하기 위해 MMF 기준을 이용하였고, 기계적 시험을 수행하여 MMF의 기준 강도 파라미터를 구하였다. 연구결과 링크의 구멍 주위에서 응력집중이 발생하였고, 특히 굽힘 하중을 받을 때 링크 끝단과 구멍 주위에서 취약함이 드러났다. 파손 지수로부터 파손 양상을 예측하였고 매트릭스 인장 파손이 링크 끝단에서, 그리고 구멍 주위에서는 섬유의 압축 파손이 예측되었다. 본 연구를 통해 확보된 방법과 결과는 경량화를 위해 금속 부품을 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재로 대체할 때 특정 하중 조건 하에서 복합재의 안전성을 평가하는 유용한 지침으로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

점용접 위치의 최적화를 위한 CAD Tool 개발 (Development of CAD tool for optimal spot weld joints)

  • Spot welding palys a key role in increasing productivity and weight reduction of the final products. This paper proposes a systematic approach on the design of spot weld configuration, dealing with the requried number and location of spot weld joints under the given design parameters, such as the applied loads, lap area, and individual spot weld strength. The optimal design of a spot-welded joint is postulated as a state when the safety factors of all spot weld points (i) are evenly distributed and (ii) reach maximum value. A CAD program is developed to arrange the optimal location of each spot weld based on the derived objective function and constraints. The CAD tool integrates the optimization procedure with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code through an interface. The interface automatically provides geometrical data and mesh configuration for different spot weld locations to FEA model. It also extracts the transmitted load of each spot weld from the FEA code, and allows the optimization code predict an improved arrangement of spot weld locations. The feasibility of the developed approach is demonstrated by the selected examples.
