Analysis of Impedance Performance for Condenser by Harmonic Current Source (고조파 전류원에 의한 콘덴서 임피던스 특성 해석)

  • Most of the user has been used linear load and non-linear load. The former is usually inductive load which is needed power factor compensation, the latter is power conversion system device. Actually two kinds of load is used together in the customer application. Generally capacitor is used for power-factor compensation of inductive load and reduction harmonics of non linear load with reactor. Non-linear load generates harmonic current for its energy conversion process. If harmonic current pass along the low impedance side of distribution system, the magnification of voltage and current is appeared by the series and parallel resonance. As a result, condenser has received a bitter electrical stress by the harmonic component. In this paper, we analyzed that how resonance is changed by the 5-th harmonic current pattern and proposed an alternative plan for non-magnification.

  • Recently, electric energy consumption pattern shows very high peak load with low load factor. This Load pattern have made electric utilities be interested in Load Management, many studies are reported. But most of these studies are concerned with Rate - Load shape relation, a few of these are concerned with generating cost reduction. In this study, the effect of Load Management is incorporated to establish optimal Generation Expansion Planning. Using avoided cost, optimal generation expansion planning is achieved to make maximum avoided cost of Electric utility. Dynamic programming technique is used to solve this algorithm.

Effects of Different Advance Organizers on Mental Model Construction and Cognitive Load Decrease

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate why advance organizers (AO) are effective in promoting comprehension and mental model formation in terms of cognitive load. Two experimental groups: a concept-map AO group and a key-word AO group and one control group were used. This study considered cognitive load in view of Baddeley's working memory model: central executive (CE), phonological loop (PL), and visuo-spatial sketch pad (VSSP). The present experiment directly examined cognitive load using dual task methodology. The results were as follows: central executive (CE) suppression task achievement for the concept map AO group was higher than the key word AO group and control group. Comprehension and mental model construction for the concept map AO group were higher than the other groups. These results indicated that the superiority of concept map AO owing to CE load decrement occurred with comprehension and mental model construction in learning. Thus, the available resources produced by CE load reduction may have been invested for comprehension and mental model construction of learning contents.

  • Though extensive research has been carried out for the ultimate strength of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) members under static and cyclic load, there was only limited information on the applied analysis models. Modeling of the inelastic response of SRC members can be accomplished by using a microcosmic model. However, generally used microcosmic model, which usually contains a group of parameters, is too complicated to apply in the nonlinear structural computation for large whole buildings. The intent of this paper is to develop an effective modeling approach for the reliable prediction of the inelastic response of SRC columns. Firstly, five SRC columns were tested under cyclic static load and constant axial force. Based on the experimental results, normalized trilinear skeleton curves were then put forward. Theoretical equation of normalizing point (ultimate strength point) was built up according to the load-bearing mechanism of RC columns and verified by the 5 specimens in this test and 14 SRC columns from parallel tests. Since no obvious strength deterioration and pinch effect were observed from the load-displacement curve, hysteresis rule considering only stiffness degradation was proposed through regression analysis. Compared with the experimental results, the applied analysis model is so reasonable to capture the overall cyclic response of SRC columns that it can be easily used in both static and dynamic analysis of the whole SRC structural systems.

  • Recently the research for lightening the railway vehicle is actively made according to the demand of the environment-friendly technology development contributing to the energy cost reduction and the green growth. The railway vehicle lightweight research is expanded to the load-supporting first structure from the secondary structure which doesn't support the load. After the composite car body development used in the Korean tilting train is completed, the composite bogie frame development in which the weight reduction efficiency is large is progressed. In this paper, distributed strain was monitored when the train load was added to the central part of the composite bogie side-frame. By using the optical fiber which was attached to the lower part of the side-frame and the developed Brillouin correlation domain analysis (BOCDA) system, the strain distribution could be measured with 3cm step over 3m section. This strain distribution was compared with the design value by the FE analysis when the load of 14ton and 18ton added. This experiment can verify the manufactured composite bogie side-frame.

  • In this paper, we propose a new tracking algorithm that achieves good tracking performance in manuevering targets while capping the computation load to“low”Kalman Filter (KF) is generally known to be poor in tracking manuevering targets. IMM, on the other hand, compensates the weakness inherent in the mundane KF and is considered as a promising alternative for tracking maneuvering targets. However, IMM suffers from substantially increased computational load as the number of models increases. To remedy this problem, we propose a new method focused to reducing the computational load and attaining the desirable tracking performance at least as good that of IMM. It is achieved by essentially adopting the structure of IMM and injecting Optimal Two-Stage Kalman Estimator (OTSKE). The representative simulation shows a reduction in computational load with the proposed OTSKE but further reduction is shown achieved (by about 58%) with the Interacting Acceleration Compenstation(IAC)-OTSKE approach.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency Switch Mode Line Transformer (SMLT) composed of load-shared dual modules, which is based on the AC/AC LLC resonant converter. Given that the conventional adaptor is usually composed of two power stages, namely, the PFC and DC/DC converters, its system size can be increased according to the output power. However, given that the proposed SMLT can separate the PFC converter from the adaptor, the size reduction of the system can be achieved. Meanwhile, the SMLT with a single module has the limit of the size reduction because of a high resonant current. Thus, it can be configured with dual or multiple modules to reduce the resonant current. Then, their load sharing can be guaranteed by only the proposed transformer structure without an extra current controller. The validity of the proposed converter is proven through a 850-W prototype.

Analysis of the piled raft for three load patterns: A parametric study

  • The piled raft is a geotechnical construction, consisting of the three elements-piles, raft and the soil, that is applied for the foundation of a tall buildings in an increasing number. The piled rafts nowadays are preferred as the foundation to reduce the overall and differential settlements; and also, provides an economical foundation option for circumstances where the performance of the raft alone does not satisfy the design requirements. The finite element analysis of the piled raft foundation is presented in this paper. The numerical procedure is programmed into finite element based software SAFE in order to conduct the parametric study wherein soil modulus and raft thickness is varied for constant pile diameter. The problems of piled raft for three different load patterns as considered in the available literature (Sawant et al. 2012) are analyzed here using SAFE. The results obtained for load pattern-I using SAFE are compared with those obtained by Sawant et al. (2012). The fair agreement is observed in the results which demonstrate the accuracy of the procedure employed in the present investigation. Further, substantial reduction in maximum deflections and moments are found in piled raft as compared to that in raft. The reduction in deflections is observed with increase in raft thickness and soil modulus. The decrease in maximum moments with increase in soil modulus is seen in raft whereas increase in maximum moments is seen in piled raft. The raft thickness and soil modulus affects the response of the type of the foundation considered in the present investigation.

Performance Evaluation of Multi-Hazard Adaptive Smart Control Technique Based on Connective Control System (연결 제어 시스템 기반의 멀티해저드 적응형 스마트 제어 기술 성능 평가)

  • A connected control method for the adjacent buildings has been studied to reduce dynamic responses. In these studies, seismic loads were generally used as an excitation. Recently, multi-hazards loads including earthquake and strong wind loads are employed to investigate control performance of various control systems. Accordingly, strong wind load as well as earthquake load was adopted to evaluate control performance of adaptive smart coupling control system against multi-hazard. To this end, an artificial seismic load in the region of strong seismicity and an artificial wind load in the region of strong winds were generated for control performance evaluation of the coupling control system. Artificial seismic and wind excitations were made by SIMQKE and Kaimal spectrum based on ASCE 7-10. As example buildings, two 20-story and 12-story adjacent buildings were used. An MR (magnetorheological) damper was used as an adaptive smart control device to connect adjacent two buildings. In oder to present nonlinear dynamic behavior of MR damper, Bouc-Wen model was employed in this study. After parametric studies on MR damper capacity, optimal command voltages for MR damper on each seismic and wind loads were investigated. Based on numerical analyses, it was shown that the adaptive smart coupling control system proposed in this study can provide very good control performance for Multi-hazards.

A STUDY OF THE TENSILE LOAD OF SEVERAL CLASPS ACCORDING TO VARIOUS UNDERCUT AREA (수종의 클래스프의 언더커트에 따른 인장력에 관한 연구)

  • A fundamental principle in clasp selection for a specific abutment is the reduction of the transmission of excessive forces to the abutment tooth. Those forces include tilting, tipping, and stress on the abutment tooth. The flexibility of a clasp was believed to directly affect the reduction of such forces. Opinions have been expressed concerning the proper type of clasp to be used to prevent stress on periodontium. In order to evaluate and compare the various designs of a clasp system, it is necessary to measure these forces. This study compared the average measurements of forces required to dislodge three kinds of circumferential clasps having different amount of undercuts : the first with a round retentive arm, the second with a half round retentive arm, the third with a wrought wire retentive arm under tensile load. Three commonly used undercuts( 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 inch) were created on nine cast crowns, premolars and molars. The test was run six times for a same clasp. The means of tensile load required to dislodge each of the different clasps were compared statistically using the ANOVA test and multiple range test (Duncan test). The results were as follows. 1. The amount of tensile load of the wrought wire clasp was significantly different from the cast round or half round clasp (p<0.05). 2. The more amount of the undercut, the more tensile load was needed to dislodge the clasps. There were significant differences among them (p<0.05). 3. The molar showed higher tensile load than the premolar, and there was significant difference (p<0.05). 4. The means of tensile load according to clasp types showed significant differences at the molar between wrought wire clasp and cast clasp (p<0.05), but did not at the premolar.
