The Energy Saving for Separately Excited DC Motor Drive via Model Based Method

  • The model based method for energy saving of the separately excited DC motor drive system is proposed in the paper. The accurate power loss model is necessary for this method. Therefore, the adaptive tabu search algorithm is applied to identify the parameters in the power loss model. The field current values for minimum power losses at any load torques and speeds are calculated by the proposed method. The rule based controller is used to control the field current and speed of the motor. The experimental results confirm that the model based method can successfully provide the energy saving for separately excited DC motor drive. The maximum value of the energy saving is 48.61% compared with the conventional drive method.

  • Rapid depletion of fossil based oil, coal and gas reserves and its greater demand day by day necessitates the search for other alternatives. Severe environmental impacts caused by the fossil fire based power plants and the escalating fuel costs are the major challenges faced by the electricity supply industry. Integration of Distributed Generators (DG) especially, wind and solar systems to the grid has been steadily increasing due to the concern of clean environment. This paper focuses on a new simple and fast load flow algorithm named Backward Forward Sweep Algorithm (BFSA) for finding the voltage profile and power losses with the integration of various sizes of DG at different locations. Genetic Algorithm (GA) based BFSA is adopted in finding the optimal location and sizing of DG to attain an improved voltage profile and considerable reduced power loss. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient in finding the optimal location and sizing of DG in 15-bus radial distribution system (RDS).The authenticity of the placement of optimized DG is assured with other DG placement techniques.

  • Most of LV customer have applied the 3-phase four wire system distribution system because it has advantage of supplying both of 1-phase & 3-phase loads simultaneously. Due to its structural simplicity, it is more convenient for use rather than the conventional separated scheme. But voltage unbalance more commonly emerges in individual customer loads due to phase load unbalance, especially where, single-phase power loads are used. Voltage unbalance factor(VUF) represents the loss of symmetry in the supply(magnitude and angle). It leads some problems such as de-rating or power losses. In this paper, voltage and current waveform in the actual fields have been measured and analyzed in relation with internationally allowable voltage unbalance limits.

  • In this paper PU control scheme is presented. The proposed scheme has following features. The one is oft-starting method which is used for preventing to flow large current in motor phase winding when motor starts. The ther is the selection of the level of the over current. The first feature is implemented by increasing the PWM duty lowly, the second feature is implemented by limiting the magnitude of the phase current level by which the over heat f motor by copper losses and magnetic saturation decreases. By the analysis using FEM considering load condition, the peed of mode transition from PW to single pulse control is selected and confirmed by simulation that there is no ver current occurs during the mode transition. For the verification of proposed scheme, the simulation using MATLAB Simulink with considering non-linearity of inductance profile from FEM analysis is performed and the experiment with SRM drive system which has the DSP controller and single Phase SRM are peformed.

알루미늄 열간 압연공정의 동력 전달용 커플링에 대한 최적화 설계 (Design Optimization on End Coupling as a Power Transmission Component for Aluminum Hot Rolling Process)

  • The End Coupling is main component of the aluminum hot roll process. The End Coupling is used for transmission of rotational power with heavy-duty load. Fracture of the End Coupling cause serious economic losses because an End Coupling is a very expensive component and it takes a long time to repair it. Therefore, preventing the destruction of the End Coupling is essential for ensuring a long mechanical life cycle. In this paper, the parametric study on the End Coupling was performed in order to minimize maximum stress under operation loads. To verify the interference of spindle assembly with modified End Coupling, kinematics simulation was performed by applying the various combination type and dynamic boundary condition of the spindle assembly. The interference of optimized model was not occurred during combination process and driving process. As a result of an optimum design for life extension on End Coupling, the maximum stress of modified End Coupling was lower than that of the initial model by 26%.

배전계통 최적구성을 위한 카오스 탐색법 응용 (Chaotic Search Algorithm for Network Reconfiguration in Distribution Systems)

  • The loss minimization is one of the most important problems to save the operational cost in distribution systems. This paper presents an efficient method for optimal feeder reconfiguration of distribution systems. Chaos search algorithm (CSA) is used to reconfigure distribution systems so that active power losses are globally minimized with turning on/off sectionalizing switches. In optimization problem, the CSA searches the global optimal solution on the basis of regularity in chaotic motions and easily escapes from local or near optimal solution. The CSA is tested on 15 buses and 32 buses distribution systems, and the results indicate that it is able to determine appropriate switching options for global optimum reconfiguration.

  • In this paper, static marginal loss factors are calculated that represent the impact of marginal network losses on nodal prices at the transmission network connection points at which generators and loads are located. These static marginal loss factors are approximately calculated based on the KEPCO's expected summer peak load data of year 2000. Based on comparison analysis of marginal loss factors on generation energy resources, we can find the characteristics of each plants according to its energy resources in KOREA.

  • A simple and practial equivalent technique has been presented in this study. Arbitrary number of bus system can be aggregated to the equivalent one-bus system, equivalents are totel real, and reactive bus powers and T/L losses viewing form boundary buses. Variables to be determined are line impedance between boundary buses and the equivalent bus, voltage and angle of that bus. IEEE 14 bus system is used to demonstrate the proposed method. even in contingency cases very good results have been obtained

  • This paper presents an optimization technique using genetic algorithms(GA) for loss minimization in the distribution network reconfiguration. Determining switch position to be opened for loss minimization in the radial distribution system is a discrete optimization problem. GA is appropriate to solve the multivariable optimization problem and it uses population, not a solution. For this reason, GA is attractive to solve this problem. In this paper, we aimed at finding appropriate open sectionalizing switch position using GA, which can lead to minimum transmission losses.

  • In this paper, a proposed resonant PWM switching technique makes the boost AC/DC converter to high input power factor and less switching loss. Also, the switching control scheme is used which minimize harmonic components employing novel PWM technique. In addition, an employment of resonant circuit for switching makes zero current switching(ZCS) and zero voltage switching(ZVS) for control switches without switching losses. The result shows that high power factor is still for varying load and switching loss is very low.
