  • In recent domestic new growth model based on the IoT it has been proposed by the industry and national authorities. As applied to these Internet-based IoT convergence center of the field is expected to be realized, including the improvement and increase of efficiency of various economic values. In this paper, using KETI ( Korea Electronics Technology Institute ) developed distribution being oneM2M standards-based platform from Mobius and Gateway Platforms & Cube, and low power, capable of long-range RF communication LoRa communication module is proposed to build the site applicable environment.

  • This paper presents a method to find a target using UAVs in LoRa communication environment. The proposed method proposes a UAV flight path so that the target signal can be found without blind spots. The flight path was changed by using the intensity of the transmitted signal during the flight using the variation of the signal strength. We verified the proposed method by simulation and confirmed that it takes a long time to track the target, although the efficiency of the 3 flights is high. It is best to fly three UAVs to reduce time to find target and increase efficiency when the time is a critical factor. The LoRa communication lowers the production cost and makes it possible to construct the system at low cost.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to implement an IoT-based sensor network for each workplace of a shipyard. Here, at the most common welding workplace in shipyards, the shipbuilding blocks are used as a communication medium to transmit information such as the worker's location, welding progress, and working hour to a server using LoRa and powerline communication. To achieve the data communication, inductive couplers and hybrid modems have been manufactured and installed on wire feeders and pin jigs to establish a sensor network. As a result of field test, the proposed system shows a success rate of data transmission and a rate of successful recognition of worker's location of about 98% or more. In addition, the process management system platform can record and display the work process data generated at the field in real time. The proposed system can be a starting point for enhancing the competitiveness of Korean shipbuilding industry through the establishment of a smart shipyard.

A Low Power Wireless Communication-based Air Pollutants Measuring System (저전력 무선통신 기반 대기오염 측정시스템)

  • Recently interest for air pollution is gradually increasing. However, according to the environmental assessment of air quality, the level of air pollution in the nation is quite serious, and air pollutants measuring facilities are also not enough. In this paper, a secure air pollutants sensor system based low power wireless communication is designed and implemented. The proposed system is composed of three parts: air pollutants measuring sensors module, LoRa-based data transmission module, and monitoring module. In the air pollutants measuring module, the MSP430 board with six big air pollutants measuring sensors are used. The air pollutants sensing data is transmitted to the control server in the monitoring system using LoRa transmission module. The received sensing data is stored in the database of the monitoring system, and visualized in real-time on the map of the sensor locations. The implemented air pollutant sensor system can be used for measuring the level of air quality conveniently in our daily lives.

  • This paper contains the results of the development and performance evaluation of the environmental data monitoring system for the fish farm. For the hardware development, the analogue sensor is used to collect dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, and temperature of the fish farm water, and the digital sensor is used for collecting ambient temperature, humidity, and location information via a GPS module to be sent to cloud-based Firebase DB. A set of LoRa transmitters and receivers is used as a communication module to upload the collected data. The data stored in Firebase is retrieved as a graph on a web and mobile application to monitor the environmental data changes in real-time. A notification will be delivered if the collected data is outside the determined optimal value. To evaluate the performance of the developed system, a response time from hardware modules to web and mobile applications is ranging from 6.2 to 6.85 seconds, which indicates satisfactory results.

  • Recently, Although particulate matter monitoring has been attracting attention as a result of social attention to the human impact of particulate matter, data suitable for the residential environment can not be obtained due to imbalances in the installation of monitoring stations and differences in topography. In this paper, we propose LoRa LPWA-based particulate matter measurement system which can make long distance wireless communication to measure particulate matter in residential environment. In the proposed system, it is possible to collect the data of the external environment which is difficult to construct the internet by utilizing LPWA which is a long distance wireless communication technology. When the proposed system is applied to the residential environment, it is expected to provide particulate matter monitoring information suitable for the residential environment.

  • A Class B device in LoRaWAN periodically receives a Beacon message from a gateway for synchronization, and it also periodically activates a ping slot to receive data from the server. In this paper, we save energy consumption by controlling the beacon-less operation which is immediately started on the packet loss. In addition, we propose a method that the server inactivates the ping slots of a device according to the amount of messages, which have to be received from the server, to save energy consumption resulting from activated but unused empty slots. The experiment with the 20% of packet loss rate showed that the reduced beacon-less operation and the inactivation of the ping slot decrease the energy consumption by 96.7% and 60% as compared to the existing method.

  • LoRa is a physical layer technology designed to secure highly reliable long-range communication with introducing loco parentis tree network and chirp spreading spectrum. Since since a leaf can send message to more than one parents simultaneously with a single transmission in a region, packet delivery ratio increases logarithmically as the number of gateways increases. The delivery ratio, however, dramatically collapses even under loco parentis tree topology due to the limitations of ALOHA-like primitive MAC, . The proposed method is intended to exploit SDMA approach to reuse frequency in an area. With the view, TxPower of each sender for each message in a concurrent transmission is elaborately controlled to survive the collision at different gateway. Thus, the gain from the capture effect improves the capacity of resource-hungry Low Power and Wide Area Networks.

Measurement of Communication Performance for Application of LPWA in Industrial Field (산업현장의 LPWA 적용을 위한 건물 내부 통신 성능 측정)

  • LPWA is a cost-effective and time-saving technology with wide coverage. However, the LPWA is an ISM band that uses UHF radio waves, and its performance is very poor indoors because of its strong linearity. But, because of the possibility of achieving high performance compared to other communication in the room, this paper has studied the indoor communication performance by applying LoRa in LPWA technologies. After installing the data receiving module on the 4th floor, the transmission module was placed at the end of the building from the same floor to the 1st floor, and the data was collected. As a results, it installed on the 1st floor can be collected data with 98 ~ 99% probability, and the lowest RSSI is about -116dBm. Thus, considering the specification of LoRa with a maximum reception sensitivity -136dBm when the spreading factor is 12, the application of LPWA in the industrial field can be fully considered.

The Development of Remote Monitoring System for Storm Overflow Chamber Device (우수토실 일체형 하수유량조절장치 원격관리시스템 개발)

  • This paper propose the remote monitoring system using LoRa networks about storm overflow chamber, which is a device designed to discharge rainwater directly to a sewage treatment plant when it reaches a certain amount of rainfall during precipitation. In this system, when the information produced by the sensor is transmitted to the LoRa network server and updated, the application server can automatically receive data through the implemented communication interface. The application server carries out management functions of storm overflow chamber devices and subscription information, collects measured flow rate and opening-closing information, and provides statistical information using the collected data. The android app performs a firebase-based notification function to prompt the user of malfunctioning of the storm overflow chamber device.
