Purpose: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effects of an exercise program on activities of daily living (ADL), balance and cognition in elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Methods: Thirty-two patients with mild to moderate cognitive impairment were assigned to one of two groups: an exercise group (n=16) and a control group (n=16). The exercise group carried on regular exercise for 60 minutes a day, 4-5 times per week for 8 weeks. The exercise group participated in an exercise program (treadmill training and physical training). ADL, balance and cognitive function were evaluated before and at the end of the program using the Korean modified Bathel Index (K-MBI), the Functional independence measure (FIM), the Berg balance scale (BBS), the Balance performance monitor (BPM), and the Mini mental state examination (MMSE) in both groups. Results: There were significant exercise-induced improvements in ADL and Balance from pre to post tests; but not in MMSE. Conclusion: Exercise programs can improve ADL and balance in elderly with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.
Objectives : The elderly in South Korea are the poorest among OECD countries in 2015. The aim of this study was to explore the health and life of the low-income elderly living in vulnerable areas in a metropolitan city. Methods : Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews with 7 participants from October to November 2015 and analyzed through Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology. The participants were interviewed for over 60 minutes in each person. Results : 7 categories were identified from 17 subcategories: "My life history: sick body," "Living with a sick body," "My poor but precious life," "A sense of distance from the hospital," "Narrowed area of my life," "Thankful for help," and "The village where I have lived my destiny." There is a lack of medical accessibility, mobility, and economic independence for low-income seniors. In addition, full-fledged redevelopment comes to them as violence. Conclusions : The health and life of the low-income elderly in vulnerable areas are products of many social factors, reaffirming the importance of social health.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among stroke patients' activities of daily living(ADL), depression, and quality of life(QOL). Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 251 stroke patients at 5 hospitals and 2 public health centers in Seoul and Kyonggi-Do. The following Questionnaires were utilized for this study: Functional independence measure(FIM) from Grange, Hamilton, and Sherwin(1986), the Korean CES-D scale from Randloff(1977), and quality of life scale from Bang, Hwal-Lan(1991). Results: Data were analyzed using the pearson correlation, t-test, and ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 12.0. The results of this study were as follow; The subjects consisted of 110 fern ales and 141 m ales. The mean score of activity of daily living was 87.2(range 18-126). Age, family history, comorbidity, paralysis site, and duration after diagnosis were significantly associated with activity of daily living. The mean score of depression was 23.8(range 11-44). Age, gender, education, and job were significantly associated with depression. The mean score of quality of life scale was 3.0(range 1-5). Gender, religion, education, job, economic status, and duration after diagnosis were significantly associated with quality of life. Relationships among activity daily living, depression, and quality of life scale: The activity of daily living had a negative relationship with depression score. The activity of daily living had a positive relationship with QOL score. The depression had a negative relationship with QOL score. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary to run rehabilitation programs to improve stroke patients' ADL, depression. Also, it research for of identifying stroke patients' quality of life according to rehabilitation program.
Purpose: This study was to identify the whether there is any correlation between Gross Motor Function Measures (GMFM) and Functional independence Measurement for children (WeeFIM) in order to identify a relevance of daily life motor with gross motor function of children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Subjects were instructed to evaluated by an occupational therapist using WeeFIM (reliability 0.83-0.99) and by a physical therapist using GMFM (reliability 0.93). 10 male children and 13 female children among 23 children being diagnosed as cerebral palsy were targeted for this study. A correlation between GMFM and WeeFIM was analyzed with Kendall correlation. Results: Participants showed significant correlation between GMFM and WeeFIM in all categories, except in the GMFM's walking running jumping category, standing category of GMFM and self care, sphincter control, communication category of WeeFIM. Lying rolling and sitting and crawling kneeling area of GMFM showed a significant correlation with self care(r=0.35, 0.39, 0.4), sphincter control (r=0.45, 0.43, 0.61), mobility transfer (r=0.44, 0.36, 0.64), locomotion (r=0.41, 0.35, 0.74), communication (r=0.4, 0.44, 0.51), and social cognition (r=0.43, 0.51, 0.64) area of WeeFIM (p<0.05). Standing of GMFM and mobility transfer (r=0.74), locomotion (r=0.47) and social cognition (r=0.4) area of WeeFIM showed a significant correlation (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings indicated significant correlation between activity of daily living (ADL) and gross motor function of children with cerebral palsy. However, because there are a few results that are not significant, both assessment tools should be used for evaluations so that treatment can be achieved with an accurate assessment and establish a therapeutic plan.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among functional evaluation systems, the Selective Motor Control Scale (SMC scale), the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) and Activities of daily living in children with spastic cerebral palsy and to provide the foundation data about SMC scle for evaluation system of abilities of selective motor control in children with spastic cerebral palsy. For this, sixty eight children with spastic cerebral palsy were participated in this study. The children were evaluated by using the SMC scale for their selective motor control ability and by using the GMFCS and GMFM for their gross motor function. The activities of daily living were assessed by using the Functional Independence Measure of Children (WeeFIM). There were a significant correlation between the SMC scale and the GMFCS (r = -.485, p < .05). The good correlation between the SMC scale and GMFM was found (r = .482, p < .05). The activities of daily living were not a significant correlation with SMC scale (r = .019, p > .05). The SMC scale in practice will provide usefulness for assessment of abilities of selective motor control in children with spastic cerebral palsy.
Objectives This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of east-west integrative rehabilitation therapy on activity of daily living and cognitive functional recovery in stroke patients by comparing with integrative rehabilitation therapy group and conventional rehabilitation therapy group in a single institution. Methods The medical records of 106 stroke patients hospitalized in Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Dongguk University Bundang Oriental Hospital from January 1, 2017 to February 28, 2019 were reviewed. After screening and dividing it into conventional rehabilitation (CR) group and integrative rehabilitation (IR) group, Korean version of Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), functional independence measure (FIM), clinical dementia rating-sum of boxes (CDR-SB) were statistically analyzed. Results IR group showed significant improvement in K-MBI, FIM, and CDR-SB after treatment (p<0.001) and there was a statistically significant difference in K-MBI and CDR-SB score changes than CR group (p<0.05). And chronic patient of IR group showed significant improvement in K-MBI, FIM, and CDR-SB after treatment (p<0.01) and there was a statistically significant difference in CDR-SB score changes than CR group (p<0.05). In particular, the earlier the treatment initiation time, the more the improvement in function and when the treatment started within 2 years from the onset and patients took acupuncture and pulsed electromagnetic therapy, all scales significantly improved (p<0.001). Conclusions IR showed more improvement on activities of daily life and cognitive functional recovery than CR in this study.
The government mandates gradually zero energy building and Photovoltaic power generation systems installed in buildings are emerging as the most realistic alternative to increase the independence rate of building energy. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the power consumption of households by increasing the PV capacity of balconies and applying the method used the charged electric power stored in batteries after sunset. In order to evaluate the electric power energy savings of the residential BESS, a balcony PV 1.2 kW and a battery pack 2 kWh were installed for 9 houses in 4 apartments in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The BESS is charged when the balcony PV is generated electric power, and when solar power generation is finished, it supplies power to the electric appliances connected to the load. As a result of installing the solar PV module 1.2 kW and 2 kWh class BESS for 3 households located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, the average electric power consumption saving rate was 40%. The reduction in electricity consumption in the case of zero generation surplus power by maximizing the utilization rate of BESS has been improved to about 53%. Therefore, in order to increase the self-sufficiency rate of electric energy in apartment houses, it is effective to increase the solar photovoltaic capacity of the balcony and apply the residential BESS. In the future, it is believed that the balcony PV and home BESS will play a key role in achieving mandatory zero-energy housing.

Purpose : To evaluate the effect of comprehensive art therapy on physical function and activities of daily living in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods : Ten ambulant children with diplegic (n=8) or hemiplegic (n=2) CP participated in this study. All were randomly assigned to either the art therapy group (n=5) or the control group (n=5). Both groups received physical therapy based on neurodevelopmental techniques for 20 minutes a day, 1 day a week, for a period of 12 weeks. Children in the art therapy group received additional comprehensive art therapy for 70 minutes once a week for 3 months. Tests for various measurements-Motricity Index (MI) for strength, Trunk Control Test (TCT) for trunk ability, Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) for gross motor function, Denver Developmental Screening Test-II (DDST-II) for developmental milestones, Functional Independence Measure of Children (WeeFIM) for abilities to complete daily activities, Leg and Hand Ability Test (LHAT) for limb function-were performed before and after treatments. Results : The upper extremity and whole extremity strengths of MI, self-care and total scores of WeeFIM, and leg and arm functions of LHAT improved significantly only for individuals in the art therapy group after the art therapy (p<.05). The value of MI after treatment was at the upper extremity and whole extremity strengths the leg function of LHAT was also significantly improved compared to the control group (p<.05). Conclusion : This study revealed that comprehensive art therapy along with physiotherapy was effective in increasing upper extremity strength and leg ability in children with CP. This suggests that comprehensive art therapy may be a useful adjunctive therapy for children with CP.

The purpose of this research is to identify stereotypes toward the single women(30-49 age) held by university students. Stereotypes toward the single women were examined at two levels: to assess students' beliefs about the traits of single women and to categorize the traits into stereotypes. The main results of this study were as follows: 1) Students reported 99 traits associated with the single women. 2) Hierarchical cluster analysis of the trait groupings revealed two high-level clusters: a cluster of 45 positive traits and a cluster of 54 negative traits. Within the positive and negative clusters, 10 middle-level categories, 4 positive categories(enjoy living affluently, independence-oriented, progressive, openhearted), and 6 negative categories(lack of vitality, pitiful, self-centered, picky, childish, self-defensive) were identified. This results suggested that young adults believed negative stereotypes are more typical than positive ones.
