A Study on the Changes of Living Activities and the Use of Spaces of the Recuperating Elderly with Dementia in Skilled Nursing Facilities in Rural Area (농촌지역 노인요양시설 치매노인의 생활행위와 공간이용 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual condition of the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in skilled nursing facilities. The thorough investigation and observation works were made from the view points of daily living behaviors and behavioral places of the recuperating elderly with dementia in skilled nursing facilities. This article discusses about the basic characteristics of the elderly and the actual condition of the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in 3 skilled nursing facilities. The results of this study are summarized as follows; There is no wide difference between skilled nursing facilities on the characteristic of living behaviors of the elderly with dementia. Daily living activities and the use of spaces are largely influenced by the daily program and the operation policy of each skilled nursing facilities in addition to human relationship of the elderly with dementia. Common spaces such as day room, dining room plays an important role for their daily living activities, because that most of the elderly with dementia stay long during daytime. Layout of each private room and common space seems very crucial point in designing these facilities, in order to enable demented people to live their lives more independently.

Design evaluation Items for Assisted Living Facilities for the Elderly (반의존 노인을 위한 시설주거의 디자인 평가요소 -미국 노인생활보조주택을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify design evaluation items for assisted living facilities for the elderly. To achieve this purpose, the 23 design issues in assisted living facilities were examined through literature analysis. Then, the field studies were carried out by using these items and by asking open questions, or any other suggestions for unexpected, but important design issues in their facilities. The field studies were conducted through interviews with several residents and surveys with staff in six selected assisted living facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio. Finally, the 23 design evaluation items for assisted living facilities were identified. These items can be used as evaluation criteria or design guidelines for assisted living facilities.

  • This study aims to investigate the gap in accessibility to urban planning facilities between living spheres in local small and medium-sized cities. In this study, OD data between administrative dongs of public transportation users was constructed to analyze the living shpere, and community analysis was conducted based on cohesion between data. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that a total of 10 clusters (mid-living areas) were formed, and the topographical difference between the 11 middle living areas established in the existing Jinju City Basic Plan and the single living areas were actively exchanged to form a community with other administrative dongs. Next, the analysis of the service area of urban planning facilities for mid-living areas was conducted based on the road network. As a result of analyzing the area accessible within 5, 10, and 15 minutes, educational facilities, public facilities, cultural facilities, tourism, and green facilities could be reached within 15 minutes in most mid-living areas. On the other hand, there were many areas where access to transportation facilities, medical facilities, and cultural facilities was difficult within 15 minutes. In particular, the accessibility of the outer living area and the central living area were different. To improve the quality of life of citizens, using urban planning facilities in Jinju-si and establishing related plans in urban basic plans, it is necessary to conduct a study on service areas through network analysis.

  • This study aims to plan connecting living facilities considering on the Barrier Free Walking of the disabled and the elderly in the residential area. We had found several physical problems on the pedestrian's way that becomes the major factor of disturbing the barrier free movement for using living facilities in the local area by investigations and enquetes. We had suggested the arrangement method for these physical problems on the pedestrian's way and building the ideal area for living facilities by the disposition stages with the result of investigations and enquetes. After these process, we had planned connecting living facilities considering on the Barrier Free Walking of the disabled and the elderly in the residential area.

  • The first objective is find out some life styles on the aged by the actual condition of the daily living activities in old people's home and recuperation facilities. The second objective of this study is to clarify the living behavior patterns of the aged who are under recuperation and living by behavioral places. The thorough investigation and observation works were made to them from the view points of daily living behaviors and activities of the recuperating aged. This article discusses about the basic characteristics of the aged and the actual condition of the daily living activities of the aged in old people's home and recuperation facilities.

  • The residential and welfare facilities for the elderly are continuously increasing due to change of value on family under situation of aging population increase. And it is predicted that accommodation capacity of facilities for the elderly and its rate those facilities takes compared to whole social welfare facilities will be accelerated considering past increase speed. On the other hand, about 60% of the elderly have low physical and mental level almost close to disabled people therefore special environmental concerns helping their independent living are necessary. Among them, color application is one of the most important factors for smooth understanding, communication and psychological remedy effect for them. The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior color status in assisted living facilities for the elderly in America which is a leading country in terms of the understanding and policy for the elderly as a part of the research project to suggest the developed solution about the Korean residential welfare facilities for the elderly For this purpose, not only importance and effect of color and visual characteristics and reaction to color in elderly environment but also general concept and policy of the ‘assisted living facility’ in America were researched through documents review. And measuring of color on 5 main spaces such ; lobby/lounge, corridor, dining room, bedroom, stairway/ramp of the 10 facilities in America were performed under analysis of its functional and aesthetic level based on Moon & Spencer's color theory.

A Study on the Service Area Planning of Elderly Care Facilities (노인요양시설 서비스 공간 계획에 관한 연구)

  • The demand of the care facilities for the elderly will be increased, because of the social changes which desire well organized medical treatment service. However, they have been illogically administrating such as preparing service at living space because of lacking places which provide living service. So the side of administration, it is necessary to have a security and improvement in that kind of needed place. The studies of elderly care facilities have been placing too much emphasis on the living space of the residential facilities and their welfare facilities compare with the service providing place which is ignored just as a part of the living space. This study focus on a situation of elderly care facilities and analyze a service space using in facilities, so it can be applied to service place plan for the future.

Factors Associated Quality of Life of Elderly in Non-paid or Paid Assisted Living Facilities (무료 및 유료 요양시설 거주노인의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The study was done to identify factors influencing the quality of life of elderly in non-paid or paid assisted living facilities. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 634 elderly in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Measures were self-esteem, activities of daily living, depression, family support, health status, facility adaptation, care facility's quality, and quality of life. Data were analyzed using $x^2$-test, independent t-test, ANCOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 15.0 version. Results: The significant factors influencing quality of life of elderly in non-paid assisted living facilities were care facility's quality, depression, self-esteem, family support, education, and activity of daily living, which explained about 40.4% of the variance. The significant factors influencing quality of life of elderly in paid assisted living facilities were activity of daily living, depression, family support, education, care facility's quality, and facility adaptation, which explained about 83.9% of the variance. Conclusion: The results suggest that type of assisted living facilities in developing nursing interventions to improve quality of life of elderly should be considered.

A Study on the Characteristics of Daily Living and the Location of Welfare Facilities for the Aged in the Local City (지방소도시 노인복지시설의 입지와 고령자의 생활특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of daily living and the location of welfare facilities for the aged in the local city. The thorough investigation and observation works were made to them from the view points of daily living behaviors and behavioral places of the recuperating elderly and location of welfare facilities. This article discusses about the actual condition of the daily living activities of 252 elderly in 4 facilities. The results of this study are summarized as follows; We must actively prepare for the advanced age society to the increase of the elderly man population. The elderly man welfare facilities expansion needs the range who do not escape from existing a life area of the aged. The city of Sa-cheon the elderly man welfare facilities have got on favorable terms ready in the locational environment. But an facilities in the west area need to preparable emergency happen that facility construction. The usage of behavioral places in recuperating facilities are influenced by the physical environments and the basic characteristics of the elderly.
