Among the electrode manufacturing processes for lithium-ion batteries, the drying process is crucial for production speed and process cost. Particularly, as the loading level of the electrode increases to enhance the energy density of the battery, optimizing process conditions for electrode drying becomes more critical. In this study, we compared the drying time and electrochemical performance of the positive electrode prepared at different drying temperatures. LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NCM622) was used as the active material and manufactured under various drying temperature conditions ranging from 120 ℃ to 210 ℃ at loading levels of 2.5 and 4.5 mAh cm-2. The physical and electrochemical properties of the electrodes were compared. As the loading level of the electrode increases, the drying time of the electrode also increases, but this time can be reduced by increasing the drying temperature. The drying temperature used in manufacturing the NCM622 positive electrode does not significantly affect the electrochemical performance but drying above 210 ℃ resulted in an increase in the volume resistivity of the electrode and a decrease in electrochemical performance. Accordingly, in the manufacture of high-loading electrodes, the drying temperature was increased to 190 ℃ to shorten the electrode manufacturing time without a loss of performance.

We have investigated the characterization of $V_2O_{5}$ thin films as a counter electrode for lithium based complementary electrochromic devices. The amorphous $V_2O_{5}$ thin films produces comparatively small changes in transmittance in the visible and near infrared compared to the crystalline $V_2O_{5}$ thin films, while the degradation occurs in a-$V_2O_{5}$ thin films with increasing the cycle life time. As the thickness of $V_2O_{5}$ thin films increases from 100 to 600 nm, the magnitude of transmittance modulation decreases. The crystalline $V_2O_{5}$ thin films with thickness around 1000 have electrochromic properties suitable for counter electrode application in lithium based electrochromic smart windows.

The electrochemical characterization was conducted by the addition of chemically synthesized polyaniline on LiCoO$_2$electrode. From the results of XRD and SEM, the phase transition and microstructure were not found. Initial electrochemical characteristics of LiCoO$_2$electrode for lithium secondary battery were evaluated through the charge/discharge within the range of 4.3 V to 3.0 V versus Li/Li$^{+}$. Discharge capacity of LiCoO$_2$electrode without addition of Polyaniline were 160.21 mAh/g. But after addition of polyaniline, lower discharge capacities 25.7 mAh/g was found.d.

Amorphous vanadium titanates (aVTOs) are examined for use as a negative electrode in lithium-ion batteries. These amorphous mixed oxides are synthesized in nanosized particles (<100 nm) and flocculated to form secondary particles. The $V^{5+}$ ions in aVTO are found to occupy tetrahedral sites, whereas the $Ti^{4+}$ ions show fivefold coordination. Both are uniformly dispersed at the atomic scale in the amorphous oxide matrix, which has abundant structural defects. The first reversible capacity of an aVTO electrode ($295mAhg^{-1}$) is larger than that observed for a physically mixed electrode (1:2 $aV_2O_5$ | $aTiO_2$, $245mAhg^{-1}$). The discrepancy seems to be due to the unique four-coordinated $V^{5+}$ ions in aVTO, which either are more electron-accepting or generate more structural defects that serve as $Li^+$ storage sites. Coin-type Li/aVTO cells show a large irreversible capacity in the first cycle. When they are prepared under nitrogen (aVTO-N), the population of surface hydroxyl groups is greatly reduced. These groups irreversibly produce highly resistive inorganic compounds (LiOH and $Li_2O$), leading to increased irreversible capacity and electrode resistance. As a result, the material prepared under nitrogen shows higher Coulombic efficiency and rate capability.

Electric conductive material should be homogeneously mixed with sulfur in sulfur electrode fabrication of lithium/sulfur battery, because sulfur is electric insulator. In this paper electrochemical properties of Li/S battery was studied with various compositions of sulfur electrodes. When content of sulfur changed from 40 wt.% to 80 wt.%, the 60 wt.% sulfur electrode showed the maximum capacity of 1489 mAh/g-sulfur. Electrochemical properties of Li/S battery using 60 wt.% sulfur was also investigated with various carbon contents. The discharge capacity changed as a function of carbon contents. The optimum composition was 25 wt.% carbon for 60 wt.% sulfur electrode.

The $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti electrode are used as an anode in thin-film lithium microbatteries is known to have high oxidation-reduction potential of 1.8 V (vs. $Li/Li^+$). It can prevent from dendrite growth of lithium during charging. The $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti electrode was prepared by anodizing at constant voltages for thin-film lithium microbatteries. The capacities of $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti anode prepared by anodizing at 10 V, 20 V and 30 V were observed to be $23.9{\mu}Ah\;cm^{-2}$, $43.1{\mu}Ah\;cm^{-2}$ and $74.0{\mu}Ah\;cm^{-2}$. We identified it was found that the capacity of $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti increases with increasing anodizing voltage and the anatase structure of $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti compared with amorphous structure has batter cycle performance than amorphous $TiO_2$ nanotube/Ti.

The electrolyte wetting phenomena occurring in the electrode of lithium-ion battery was studied using lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Recently, lithium-ion batteries are being mixed with small particles on the active material to increase the capacity and energy density during the electrode design stage. The change to the mixing ratio may influence the wettability of electrolyte. In this study, the changes in electrolyte distribution and saturation were investigated according to various mixing ratios of active material. We found that the variations in mixing ratio of active material affect the wetting mechanism, and result in changes to the wetting speed and wettability of electrolyte.
K-GIC of the new carbon electrode to improve performance of carbon negative electrode in lithium ion secondary battery was prepated and its electrical characteristics were studied. Form this study, intercalated K quantity was increased in order of $2>3>1mole/{\ell}$ of KCl solution. And, for KCl solution of 1mole, the mole ratio of carbon and potassium was 156~388 carbon/potassium. The proper condition of K-GIC preparation was KCl solution of $1mole/{\ell}$, reaction temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, reaction time of 1 hour. From this condition, the intercalation and deintercalation behavior of lithium was very excellent. Also the reversibility was excellent.
In order to increase the specific capacitance and energy density of supercapacitors, non-aqueous supercapacitors were prepared using lithium transition-metal oxides and activated carbons as active materials. The electrochemical properties were analyzed in terms of the content of lithium transition-metal oxides. The results of cyclic voltammetry and AC-impedance analyses showed that the pseudocapacitance may stem from the synergistic contributions of capacitive and faradic effects; the former is due to the electric double layer which is prepared in the interface of activated carbon and organic electrolyte, and the latter is due to the intercalation of lithium ($Li^+$) ions. The specific capacitance and energy density of a supercapacitor improved as the lithium transition-metal oxides content increased, showing 60% increase compared to those of supercapacitor using a pure activated carbon positive electrode.
Recently, with the trend of information technology convergence and electrification, batteries are being widely used in fields such as industry, transportation, and specific applications. By 2030, the secondary battery market is expected to grow explosively by more than eight times compared with 2020 to $351.7 billion owing to the expanding adoption of electric vehicles. Depending on the electrochemical reactions in the electrode, a primary battery can only discharge through an irreversible reaction, while a secondary battery can be repeatedly charged and discharged using reversible reactions. According to the type of charge carrier ions, secondary batteries may be classified into those made of lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and aluminum ions. We analyze the current status and technological issues of lithium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, and solid-state batteries, which are representative examples of lithium secondary batteries. In addition, research trends in lithium secondary batteries are discussed.
