  • In a lithium-ion battery which is being used in many portable electronic goods, electrolyte is disaggregated and then the gas is happened when electric charging volt is over the 4.5V. So, the pressure on the safety valve is increased and electrolyte is leaked out in the cell. It leads to the risk of explosion. On the other hand, in the case which the battery is discharged excessively, the negative pole is damaged and the performance of the battery is deteriorated. The protection module of a lithium-ion battery is used for preventing such risk and the inspection system is needed to check the performance of such protection module. In this research, a PC-based auto inspection system is developed for the inspection of a battery protection module using Dallas chipset. In the inspection system, AVRl28 chip is used as a controller and the communication protocol is developed for the data communication between the protection module and the AVR128 chip. And GPIB interface is used for the control of measuring devices. Also, MMI environment is developed using LabView for convenient monitoring by the tester.

Electrochemical and Safety Performances of Polyimide Nano fiber-based Nonwoven Separators for Li-ion Batteries

  • In this study, cell performance and thermal stability of lithium-ion cells with a polyimide (PI) separator are investigated. In comparison to conventional polyethylene (PE) separator, the PI separator exhibits distinct advantage in microporous structure, leading to superior reliability of the cell. The cells with PI separator exhibit good cell performances as same as the cells with PE separator, but their reliability was superior to the cell with PE separator. Especially in the hot-box test at 150 and 180℃, PI separator showed a contraction percentage close to 0% at 150℃, while the PE separator showed a contraction percentage greater than 10% in both width and length. Therefore, the PI separator can be the promising candidate for separators of the next generation of lithium-ion battery.

  • In increasing the safety and usage of lithium-ion battery packs, reducing the parameter deviation between cells, such as voltage and temperature within the battery pack, is important. In this study, we propose a screening method to reduce parameter deviation between cells in battery packs. Screening algorithms are constructed based on Fuzzy logic and quantitatively express the similarities between battery cells. Screening is applied by utilizing series resistance components after experiments of electrical characteristics that consider the operation status of battery packs. After screening, the standard deviation of series resistance components according to the similarity ranking is compared and analyzed, and their conformity are verified with the algorithm parameters.

연축전지와 리튬이온전지용 하이브리드 ESS의 최적구성방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimation Method for Optimal Composition Rate of Hybrid ESS Using Lead-acid and Lithium-ion Batteries)

  • The large scaled lead-acid battery is widely used for efficient operation of the photovoltaic system in many islands. However, lithium-ion battery is now being introduced to mitigate the fluctuation of wind power and to replace lead-acid battery. Therefore, hybrid ESS(Energy Storage system) that combines lithium-ion battery with lead-acid battery is being required because lithium-ion battery is costly in present stage. Under this circumstance, this paper presents the optimal algorithm to create composition rate of hybrid ESS by considering fixed and variable costs in order to maximize advantage of each battery. With minimization of total cost including fixed and variable costs, the optimal composition rate can be calculated based on the various scenarios such as load variation, life cycle and cost trend. From simulation results, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithms are an effective tool to produce a optimal composition rate.

  • 현재 대부분의 도서지역에서는 태양광발전을 효율적으로 운용하기 위하여 대용량 연축전지가 많이 사용되고 있지만, 풍력발전의 도입, 축전지 교체로 인하여 리튬이온전지의 도입이 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존에 많이 보급되어 사용되고 있는 연축전지와 리튬이온전지의 장점을 최대한 활용하기 위하여, 연축전지와 리튬이온전지용 하이브리드 ESS의 최적 운용평가를 할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 상기의 알고리즘을 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과, 각 전지의 도입비용과 운용비용이 최소화 되는 운용조건에서 최적구성비를 산출하였다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서 제안한 하이브리드 ESS의 최적구성 알고리즘에 대한 유용성을 확인하였다.

흑연 코팅 집전체를 이용한 Lithium Terephthalate 기반 리튬-유기 이차전지의 전기화학적 특성 개선 (Improving the Electrochemical Properties of Lithium Terephthalate-based Lithium-Organic Battery with A Graphite Coated Current Collector)

  • 유기이차전지가 가지고 있는 전극 내 낮은 접합력과 높은 계면저항의 단점을 해결하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 흑연 코팅 처리된 집전체를 사용하여 lithium terephthalate (LTA)전지의 전기화학적 특성 변화를 분석하였다. LTA 음극 활물질은 산의 이온 치환반응에 의하여 불순물 없이 합성되어 졌다. 막대 형태의 LTA 활물질로 제작된 전극과 흑연 코팅 처리된 집전체와의 접합특성은 SEM 단면과 EIS를 통하여 확인하였다. 흑연 코팅된 집전체를 사용한 LTA전지의 계면저항은 현저히 감소되었다. 순수한 금속 집전체 LTA 전지와 흑연 코팅 처리된 금속 기판 LTA 전지는 0.1C의 두 번째 사이클에서 107.6 mAh/g와 148.8 mAh/g의 방전 용량을 보인다. 흑연 코팅된 집전체를 사용한 LTA 전지는 순수한 LTA 전지에 비하여 우수한 수명 특성과 높은 방전 용량, 그리고 높은 고율 특성을 가진다.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop tin oxide-flash composite for lithium Ion polymer battery. Tin oxide is one of the promising material as a electrode active material for lithium Ion polymer battery (LIPB). Tin-based oxides have theoretical volumetric and gravimetric capacities that are four and two times that of carbon, respectively. We investigated cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge cycling of SnO-flyash/SPE/Li cells. The first discharge capacity of SnO-flyash composite anode was 720 mAh/g. The discharge capacity of SnO-flyash composite anode 412 and 314 mAh/g at cycle 2 and 10 at room temperature, respectively. The SnO-flyash composite anode with PVDF-PMMA-PC-EC-$LiClO_4$ electrolyte showed good capacity with cycling.

시계열 모델 기반의 계절성에 특화된 S-ARIMA 모델을 사용한 리튬이온 배터리의 노화 예측 및 분석 (Degradation Prediction and Analysis of Lithium-ion Battery using the S-ARIMA Model with Seasonality based on Time Series Models)

  • This paper uses seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (S-ARIMA), which is efficient in seasonality between time-series models, to predict the degradation tendency for lithium-ion batteries and study a method for improving the predictive performance. The proposed method analyzes the degradation tendency and extracted factors through an electrical characteristic experiment of lithium-ion batteries, and verifies whether time-series data are suitable for the S-ARIMA model through several statistical analysis techniques. Finally, prediction of battery aging is performed through S-ARIMA, and performance of the model is verified through error comparison of predictions through mean absolute error.

  • The performance of Li-ion system based on $LiCoO_2$ and Graphite is well optimized for the 3C applications. The charge-discharge mode, the manufacturing process, the cell performance and the thermal reactions affecting safety has been explained in the engineering point of view. The energy density of the current LIB system is in the range of 300~400 Wh/l. In order to achieve the energy density higher than 500 Wh/l, the active materials should be modified or changed. Adopting new high capacity anode materials would be effective to improve energy density.

  • 전기차용 리튬이온배터리의 수요가 증가함에 따라 향후 발생할 폐리튬이온배터리 중의 유가금속 회수가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 리튬이온배터리의 NCM계 양극재를 수소환원과 수침출에 의해 리튬을 수산화리튬으로 회수할 때의 회수율에 미치는 반응온도의 영향을 조사하였다. 반응온도가 상승함에 따라 수소에 의한 NiO, CoO의 환원에 의해 무게 감소율이 반응초기부터 급격하게 증가하였으며 동시에 H2O 발생량도 증가하였다. 602 ℃ 이상에서는 양극재 중의 Ni, Co가 전부 환원되어 금속상으로 존재하였다. 그리고 수소환원 온도의 상승과 함께 Li 회수률도 증가하였으나 704 ℃ 이상에서는 약 92 % 이상의 유사한 수준을 나타내었다. 따라서 폐Li이온 배터리의 전처리로 수소환원하는 것에 의해 리튬만 사전에 회수하고 잔사를 재처리하면 효율적으로 유가금속을 분리하여 회수할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
