  • Over the past decades the concept of Third-Party Logistics(TPL) has generated considerable interest in American and European industries. It involves outsourcing logistics activities that have traditionally been performed within an organization. The functions performed by the third-party logistics can encompass the entire logistics process or, more commonly, selected activities with that process. Increasing corporate emphasis on such concepts as reengineering and supply chain management has led many companies to consider the use of such third-party logistics. This study examines the possibility of applying existing American research of the third-party logistics to Korean companies and investigates the criteria for the use of third-party logistics in Korea. To design the model and generate the hypotheses, this study conducted a comprehensive literature survey on the third-party logistics. To test the hypotheses, this study collected data from 229 companies from the public companies in Korea through a questionnaire survey and conducted descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS for Windows Ver. 7.5 package. This study is hoped that it may contribute to the understanding and introducing of the third-party logistics in the fields of the firms. But there were some restrictions that the respondents were not covered all kinds of firms. These and other major findings from this study imply that existing American studies may be applicable the Korean companies and that this study may complement the deficiencies of the existing studies. Thus, the summary of the literature review, the research model and hypotheses, and empirical findings in this study will provide useful ideas for future research and deep insights for successful logistics management.

  • Literature survey was conducted on the 2013 Interim Guidelines for determining the minimum propulsion power to maintain the manoeuvrability of ships in adverse conditions. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) documents related with the Guidelines were reviewed. Compatibility of the present Guidelines can be checked by two different levels: (Level 1) minimum power lines assessment and (Level 2) simplified assessment. The IHS (Information Handling Services) sea-web data on the bulk carriers and the tankers, which were built after 2000, were used to examine the Level 1 assessment. KVLCC2 was used to examine the Level 2 assessment. Regarding the Level 2 assessment, effects of the adverse weather conditions, the added resistance due to waves, the wake fractions and the thrust deduction factors were discussed.

  • With industrialization, environmental problems have become severe worldwide as resources are exhausted for mass production purposes and pollutants are produced in excess of nature's capacity to absorb them. Since modernity, urban parks have emerged as an important element for addressing challenges facing urban environments, which include environmental degradation. In 1987, the Brundtland Commission's report presented a sustainable developmental perspective in solving environmental problems and provided ideas for sustainable design and sustainable urban park landscape design. The purpose of this study is to analyze sustainable design applied to Houtan Park in central Shanghai, China from the perspective of social culture preservation, ecological restoration, and economic effect, and to provide the basic data for urban park design in similar areas in the future. This study consists of a literature survey and a field investigation. The field investigation lead to analysis from three perspectives: social culture preservation, ecological restoration, and economic effect. The literature survey examined sustainable urban parks and Houtan Park based on relevant papers, newspaper articles, and reports. Through actual visits (Aug. 28 - Sep. 1, 2018), it also examined the elements of sustainable design that were applied to the architecture. The three sustainable design elements derived from this study, being a sustainable design for the future, will be used as an important basis for developing urban parks for the regeneration of brownfields in many areas in China.

Secondary plant metabolites have miraculous healing properties and show potent therapeutic responses when used in combination drug therapy. The prime objective of this review is to summarize the concept of drug combination with special emphasis on the synergistic interactions between plant-derived bioactive phytochemicals with commercially available antimicrobial agents. The study also assesses the roles, importance, and applicability of phytochemicals in the management of different diseases. The review focuses on different aspects of combined antimicrobial activities, the possible mechanisms involved, and the current status of research in the field. The study was conducted based on an extensive literature survey that resulted in the following hypothesis: secondary metabolites derived from plants possess remarkable therapeutic activities. The study was designed as a systematic review that ensures unbiased and accurate representations of the relevant data and information. Jadad scale selection criteria were used for qualitative analysis of the articles to assess them based on the relevant secure score (minimum and maximum scores range between 1 and 5, respectively). Articles with secure scores > 3 were considered for the study. A comprehensive literature survey was conducted using resource databases including PubMed, Google Scholar, Bielefeld Academic Search Engine, Research Gate, Scopus, Medline, and Science Direct up to June 2019. • Point-of-care photography and photo sharing optimize patient outcomes and facilitate remote consultation imperative for resident surgeons. This literature review and external pilot survey study highlight the risks associated with current practices concerning patient privacy and biometric security. In a survey of 30 plastic surgeon residents and attendings, we found that the majority took photos of patients with their iPhones and shared them with colleagues via Apple iMessage. These findings corroborate previous reports and highlight a lack of physician user acceptance of secure photo-sharing platforms. Finally, we frame a successful example from the literature in the context of a postulated framework for institutional change. Prioritizing the privacy and safety of patients requires a strategic approach that preserves the ease and frequency of use of current practices.

  • The present study evaluated growth factors affecting oak community plantations through literature review and a field survey. Specifically, 41 related literature sources were analyzed and field surveys were conducted to collect growth data. Previous studies were analyzed to identify variables with high frequency of use. The frequency of use was in the order of tree size > environment > planting density > forest age. Analysis of factors impacting height and diameter growth revealed that the growth rate of species other than Quercus variabilis was negative in the field survey. This may be because of differences between the actual trees planted and specifications in the construction drawings, which may be attributed to the site conditions and decisions made by the project subject during construction. Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis was conducted with time, height at planting, density, and species code as the independent variables and growth rate as the dependent variable. A strong positive linear correlation was noted between height and diameter. This work builds a foundation for developing a forest restoration model and simulation program based on a regression model derived from the four variables tested.

  • It is important for Singaporean companies to manage the multifaceted risks when forming international construction joint ventures (ICJVs) with developing countries. The objectives of this study are to assess the risks associated with Singaporean ICJVs with developing countries, and investigate the risk allocation preferences in these ICJVs. To fulfill these objectives, a literature review was carried out and a questionnaire survey was performed with 38 professionals. The survey results reported "political instability" as the most critical risk, and market level risks were less critical than country and project level risks. Additionally, the results showed agreement on the risk ranking between building and infrastructure ICJVs, despite significant differences in the criticalities of five risks. Furthermore, five risks were preferably allocated to host and foreign partners, respectively, while 13 risks could be shared among partners. As few studies have explored the risk allocation preferences in ICJVs, this study expands the literature. Also, the identification of the risks allows other companies to customize their own lists of critical risks, while the preferred risk allocation provides valuable information for companies from various countries that intend to form ICJVs with developing countries. Thus, this study contributes to the global body of knowledge relating to ICJVs.

  • Despite a continuous decline in birth rate, children's clothing market is growing, driven by consumption trends of MZ generation parents who are willing to invest generously in their only child. Therefore, this study aimed to: 1) analyze changes in children's clothing market; 2) ascertain preferences and consumption patterns of MZ generation parents towards children's textile designs through surveys; and 3) develop textile designs targeting MZ generation parents based on these research findings. This study involved processes of literature review, market research, and design development. Survey results indicated that 'patterns and prints' were the most critical factor when purchasing children's clothing. The design process reflected survey and literature review findings, starting from idea conception to motif setting, pattern development, colorway, and simulation checks for final application suitability. Designs were executed using CAD programs centered around the main theme 'Enchanted Tea Party' and five sub-themes. This research was significant as it conducted surveys known to be challenging for corporations, thereby capturing the essence of MZ generation parents' preferences through the design process. This will provide essential information for establishing children's clothing design and marketing strategies, contributing to sustained growth of the market and enhancing the competitiveness of children's clothing brands.
