Analysis of Safety Regulation and Chemical Reactivity of Hypergolic Propellant (접촉점화성 추진제 안전기준 및 상호반응성 분석)

  • Although hydrazine is an excellent liquid propellant, caution is required during storage and handling due to its high toxicity and reactivity. Safety guidelines should be established in consideration of the chemical reactivity by unintended leakage. In this study, the status of hydrazine facilities at launch site and safety standards for storing and handling were investigated and then, the reactivity between chemicals and hydrazine was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, hydrazine has reactivity with the exception of fuel oil. This paper emphasizes the imperative nature of constructing a dedicated hydrazine storage facility. Ensuring compatibility between hydrazine and the materials used in storage containers and handling equipment is crucial to prevent undesired reactions that could compromise safety. It was intended to be used as basic data to secure the range safety when handling hydrazine.

Research on Actual Vehicle Application of Composite Regenerative DPF for Reducing Exhaust Gases of Light-duty Diesel Engines (소형디젤기관의 배출가스 저감을 위한 복합재생방식 DPF의 실차적용 연구)

  • As awareness of environmental pollution problems increases worldwide, interest in air pollutants is increasing. In particular, NOx and PM, which are major pollutants in diesel vehicles, are contributing significantly to emissions. As a result, its importance is increasing. In this study, based on research results applied to large diesel vehicles, the problem of natural regeneration caused by low exhaust gas temperature during low speed and low load operation is solved by applying a complex regeneration DPF that is not affected by temperature conditions to small diesel vehicles. The feasibility of application to small diesel vehicles was reviewed by measuring the emission reduction efficiency. As a result of the engine test, the power reduction rate and fuel consumption rate before and after device installation under full load conditions were 2.9% decrease and 3.5% increase, respectively, satisfying the standard for a 5% reduction, and as a result of the regeneration equilibrium temperature (BPT) test, the regeneration temperature was 310℃. appeared at the level. The reduction efficiency test results for the actual vehicle durability test equipment showed 97.3% PM, 51.0% CO, and 31.1% HC, while the city commuter vehicle had PM 97.5%, CO 61.7%, HC 40.0%, and the school bus vehicle had PM 96.8%, CO 44.4%, HC 34.3%, and low-speed logistics vehicles showed a reduction efficiency of 98.2% for PM, 36.0% for CO, and 45.7% for HC. Based on the results of this study, in the future, it is necessary to secure DPF technology suitable for all vehicle types through actual vehicle application research on temperature condition-insensitive composite regenerative DPF for medium-sized vehicles.

A Study on the Characteristics of Condensable Fine Particles in Flue Gas (배출가스 중 응축성미세먼지 특성 연구)

  • The study evaluated methods to measure condensable fine particles in flue gases and measured particulate matter by fuel and material to get precise concentrations and quantities. As a result of the method evaluation, it is required to improve test methods for measuring Condensable Particulate Matter (CPM) emitted after the conventional Filterable Particulate Matter (FPM) measurement process. Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) based on the evaluated analysis process showed that RSD percentages of FPM and CPM were around 27.0~139.5%. As errors in the process of CPM measurement and analysis can be caused while separating and dehydrating organic and inorganic materials from condensed liquid samples, transporting samples, and titrating ammonium hydroxide in the sample, it is required to comply with the exact test procedures. As for characteristics of FPM and CPM concentrations, CPM had about 1.6~63 times higher concentrations than FPM, and CPM caused huge increase in PM mass concentrations. Also, emission concentrations and quantities varied according to the characteristics of each fuel, the size of emitting facilities, operational conditions of emitters, etc. PM in the flue gases mostly consisted of CPM (61~99%), and the result of organic/inorganic component analysis revealed that organic dusts accounted for 30~88%. High-efficiency prevention facilities also had high concentrations of CPM due to large amounts of $NO_x$, and the more fuels, the more inorganic dusts. As a result of comparison between emission coefficients by fuel and the EPA AP-42, FPM had lower result values compared to that in the US materials, and CPM had higher values than FPM. For the emission coefficients of the total PM (FPM+CPM) by industry, that of thermal power stations (bituminous coal) was 71.64 g/ton, and cement manufacturing facility (blended fuels) 18.90 g/ton. In order to estimate emission quantities and coefficients proper to the circumstances of air pollutant-emitting facilities in Korea, measurement data need to be calculated in stages by facility condition according to the CPM measurement method in the study. About 80% of PM in flue gases are CPM, and a half of which are organic dusts that are mostly unknown yet. For effective management and control of PM in flue gases, it is necessary to identify the current conditions through quantitative and qualitative analysis of harmful organic substances, and have more interest in and conduct studies on unknown materials' measurements and behaviors.

  • GTL(Gas-to-Liquids)공정 중 합성가스 제조공정(Reforming Process)인 ATR(Auto-Thermal Reforming), SCR(Steam Carbon Reforming), POx(Partial Oxidation)의 시뮬레이션 연구를 수행하였다. Reforming 공정에서 생산된 합성가스는 GTL 합성유 제조공정인 FT(Fischer-Thropsch) 반응기로 주입되며, 합성유 생산에 최적의 효율을 보이는 H2/CO 비(합성가스에 포함된 반응물비)는 2.0으로 알려져 있다. FT공정은 합성가스를 원료로 고온 및 고압 반응을 거쳐 GTL 공정의 최종 생산품인 FT합성유를 제조하는 공정이다. 본 연구에서는 FT공정 효율 극대화를 위해 reforming 공정에서 생성되는 합성가스 내 H2/CO의 비를 2로 수렴토록 모사조건을 설정하였으며, 상기 조건을 만족하는 reforming 공정들의 운전 온도 및 feed 조성을 분석하고 비교하고자 한다. 현재 GTL 플랜트관련 산업계에 적용 혹은 주 연구대상인 reforming 공정으로는 ATR, SCR, POx 공정이 있다. ATR 공정은 $850{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$에서 메탄, 스팀 및 산소를 원료로 활용하여 H2 및 CO를 생산하는 공정으로 발열/흡열 반응이 상존하여 에너지 비용이 낮지만 공정구조 상 열회수설비 및 ASU(Air Separation Unit)이 필요하기에 CAPEX(초기설비 설치비용)가 높은 편이다. SCR공정은 CH4, Steam 및 CO2를 연료로 하기에 이산화탄소가 일정부분 포함된 가스전에도 적용이 가능하나 공정 운전 중 지속적으로 외부에서 열을 공급해야 하기에 에너지 투입비용이 높은편이며, 탄소침적의 문제가 있어 대용량 플랜트에는 적합하지 않다. POx공정은 약 $1,500^{\circ}C$의 고온에서 CH4가 O2에 의해 부분 산화되는 방식으로 촉매가 필요없어 설비비가 타 공정에 비해 저렴하나 생산가스의 H2/CO비가 다소 낮아 전체적인 GTL 공정효율이 저하되는 단점이 있다. 상기 세 공정은 GTL 산업계에서 실증 및 효율증대를 위해 주로 연구되는 공정이기에 본 연구의 분석대상으로 설정하였다. 본 연구에서는 상용공정모사기인 Aspen Plus를 활용하여 reforming 공정별로 FT합성공정의 최적 조건(H2/CO=2)을 만족하는 합성가스 생산조건 분석 및 비교를 수행할 예정이다. 운전조건인 공정 운전온도 및 feed 가스조성 등을 모사하기 위해 합성가스 reforming 공정을 모델링하고 공급유량 및 압력 등의 운전변수는 GTL국책과제 1단계 연구수행 결과를 토대로 선정하고자 한다. GTL공정의 경우, 설비의 운전조건이나 연료가스의 구성 및 유량에 따라 적합한 reforming 공정이 다르기에 본 시뮬레이션 결과를 향후 GTL 플랜트 공정모델 설계시 reforming 공정선정에 참고자료로 활용하고자 한다.

Analysis of the Actual Conditions of the Asphalt Regulations by Fire Service Organizations and Explosion Cases (아스팔트에 대한 소방기관의 규제 실태와 폭발사례의 분석)

  • Because asphalt is a solid at normal temperature and is not a hazardous material as stipulated in the Safety Management Act on Hazardous Materials, it is often recognized as having no risk of fire or explosion. On the other hand, it is as dangerous as flammable liquid because it is heated to $170-180^{\circ}C$ and stored in a storage tank. This study analyzed the risk of fire and explosion during the storage and handling of asphalt and the actual conditions of asphalt regulations by fire service organizations. Moreover, this study analyzed the domestic case of explosions in the production process of asphalt concrete (ASCON) and domestic and foreign cases of asphalt storage tank explosions. The analysis suggested that unlike Japan, Korea has no asphalt regulations in fire service organizations. Explosions can occur when ignition is delayed after fuel is sprayed on the dryer drum burner of the aggregates during the production of ASCON. A physical explosion can occur in the storage tank when environmental purification facilities suddenly work strongly to remove air pollutants or bad smells during the heating of asphalt in an asphalt storage tank. In addition, explosions can occur when fires such as welding is performed in the asphalt storage tank.

VISUALIZATION AND MEASUREMENT OF A NARROW-CONE DI GASOLINE SPRAY FOR THE IMPINGEMENT ANALYSIS

  • Wall interactions of direct injection spray were investigated using laser-sheet imaging, shadowgraphy, wetted footprint and phase Doppler interferometry techniques. A narrow-cone high-pressure swirl injector is used to inject iso-octane fuel onto a plate, which has three different impact angles inside a pressurized chamber. Heated air and plate conditions were compared with unheated cases. Injection interval was also varied in the heated case to compare dry- and wet- wall impingement behaviors. High-speed macroscopic Mie-scattering images showed that presence of wall and air temperature has only minor effect on the bulk spray structure and penetration speed for the narrow-cone injector tested. The overall bulk motions of the spray plume and its spatial position at a given time are basically unaffected until a few millimeters before impacting the wall. The surface properties of the impact surface, such as the temperature, the presence of a preexisting liquid film also have a small effect on the amount of wetting or the wetted footprint; however, they have strong influence on what occurs just after impact or after a film is formed. The shadowgraph in particular shows that the plate temperature has a significant effect on vapor phase propagation. Generally, 10-20% faster horizontal vapor phase propagation is observed along the wall at elevated temperature condition. For impingement onto a preexisting film, more splash and evaporation were also observed. Contrary to some preconceptions, there is no significant splashing and droplet rebounding from surfaces that are interposed in the path of the DI gasoline spray, especially for the oblique impact angle cases. There also appears to be a dense spray front consists of large sac spray droplets in the oblique impact angle cases. The bulk of the spray is not impacted on the surface, but rather is deflected by it The microscopic details as depicted by phase Doppler measurements show that the outcome of the droplet impaction events can be significantly influenced. Only droplets at the spray front have high enough Weber numbers for wall impact to wet, splash or rebound. Using the sign of vertical velocity, the time-resolved downward droplets and upward droplets are compared. The Weber number of upward moving droplets, which seldom exceeds unity, also decreases as the impact angle decreases, as the droplets tend to impact less and move along the wall in the deflected spray plume.

Radioactivity Analysis of $^{55}Fe\;and\;^{63}Ni$ in Dismantled Concrete (해체 콘크리트 폐기물에 포함된 $^{55}Fe$$^{63}Ni$ 방사능 분석)

  • Combined method of extraction chromatography and liquid scintillation analysis was established for determinating $^{55}Fe\;and\;^{63}Ni$ radioactivity in solid samples. Activated concrete wastes generated from dismantling KRR-2 were analysed. The sequential separation including precipitation and extraction chromatography resulted in the above 90% chemical recoveries of Fe. Above 62% recoveries of Ni were obtained by this procedure exception to 43.6 and 46.5% recoveries. The seperation and counting procedure was also confirmed with spiked samples of known quantity. The measured and spiked quantity were agreed with the 3.7% and 0.7% variations in the $^{55}Fe\;and\;^{63}Ni$ experiments, respectively. The radioactivities of $^{55}Fe$ in the dismantled concretes are shown from below MDA to maximum 362 Bq/g. The radioactivities of $^{63}Ni$ in all concrete samples are below MDA. The $^{63}Ni$ doesn't exist in dismantled concretes from KRR-2. The radioactivity of $^{55}Fe$ is decreased rapidly as the sampling depth is increased from the concrete surface.

Efficiency Calibration of HPGe Detector in Normal ana Coincidence Mode for the Determination of Prompt Gamma-ray (즉발감마선 측정을 위한 HPGe 검출기의 전계수 또는 동시계수모드에서의 광대역 계측효율 보정)

  • Neutron induced prompt gamma-ray spectroscopy(NIPS) system measures the prompt gamma-ray emitting by the interaction of a neutron with various materials. This system will be of great benefit to scientists worldwide, since it provides the non-destructive measurement of many element in either solid or liquid wastes. In this study, the full-energy-peak (FEP) efficiency calibration for a HPGe detector was constructed in the ${\gamma}$-ray energy range from 80 keV to 8 MeV, using $^{l33}$Ba and >TEX>$^{152}Eu$ RI sources and $ ^{35}Cl(n, ${\gamma}$)^{36}Cl$ thermal neutron captured reaction. The FEP efficiency curve for the higher energies using the $^{35}Cl(n, ${\gamma}$)^{36}Cl$ reaction was normalized with the curve obtained from the RI sources, since the accurate activity of its prompt ${\gamma}$-ray is unknown. The average thermal neutron flux was theoretically calculated using the FEP efficiency curve for the KCl standard solutions. The NIPS system equipped with a ${\gamma}$-${\gamma}$ coincidence setup with two n-type coaxial HPGe detectors was considered in order to reduce the interfering ${\gamma}$-ray background. The FEP efficiency curve for the ${\gamma}$-${\gamma}$ coincidence system was also obtained for full energy range. The performance of the normal and coincidence NIPS system was tested by comparing signal-to-noise ratio in each mode using the reference sample.e.

Simultaneous Assay of $^{14}C$ and $^{3}H$ in Evaporator Bottom by Chemical Oxidation Method (화학적 산화 방법을 이용한 농축폐액 내 $^{14}C$$^{3}H$ 정략)

  • [ $^{14}C$ ] and $^{3}H$ in the evaporator bottom (EB) discharged from the Nuclear power plant (NPP) were extracted simultaneously into a gaseous $^{14}CO_{2}$ and liquefied HTO by using the chemical oxidation, which is the method to oxidize samples completely using potassium persulfate and sulfuric acid. The extracted $^{14}C$ and $^{3}H$ were counted by the liquid scintillation counter (LSC) after the quench correction. To examine the recovery of $^{14}C$ using the radioactive standards, $Na_{2}^{14}CO_{3}$, $^{14}C-alcohol$, and $^{14}C-toluene$ as $^{14}C$, and HTO as $^{3}H$ were used. Also, the most suitable method for oxidizing $^{14}C-toluene$, which is difficult to be oxidized, was investigated through FT-IR spectra according to the concentration of sulfuric acid. With the identical method, $^{14}C$ and $^{3}H$ in the EB generated in the NPP were assayed in the range of $8.35{\sim}l.38{\times}10^3$ Bq/g and $2.46{\times}10^2{\sim}1.40{\times}10^4$ Bq/g, respectively.

  • Hollow-fiber membranes, is one of the new technologies that is growing rapidly in the past few decades. In addition, separation membranes using polymer materials, have attracted attentions in various fields including gas separation, fuel cells, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and organic separation. Nanofiltration (NF) membranes having the separation characteristics in the intermediate range between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for liquid separation, with relatively low investment cost and operating pressure lower than that of RO membranes, have high permeance and rejection performance of multivalent ions as well as organic compounds of molecular weight between $200{\sim}1000gmol^{-1}$. In this paper, we would like to review the research trends on the various structure control and characterization of NF hollow fiber membranes with respect to materials and the methods of preparation (phase inversion method and interfacial polymerization method). Currently, most of NF membranes have been manufactured by plate and frame types or spiral wound types. But hollow fiber types have delayed in commercial products, because of the weak strength when to produce on the basis of the existing materials, therefore the development of new materials or improvement of existing materials will be needed. If improving manufacturing technology is available, hollow fiber types will replace spiral wound types and gradually show a higher market share.
