  • A series of tests were performed to verify the transient characteristics of heat pump in heating and cooling mode when operating speed was varied over the 30 to 102Hz. One of the major issues that has not been addressed so far is transient characteristics during speed modulation. The model for cycle simulation has been developed to predict the cycle performance under conditions of decreasing drive frequency and the results of the theoretical study were compared with the results of the experimental study. The simulated results were in good agreement with the experimental result within 10%. The transient cycle migration of the liquid state refrigerant causes significant dynamic change in system. Thus, the migration of refrigerant was the most important factor whenever do experimental results analysis or develop simulation model.

  • Heat transfer and solidification of liquid silicon in von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ swirling flow is investigated. The moving boundary is fixed for all times by a coordinate transformation, and finite difference method Is used to obtain the instantaneous location of the solid-liquid Interface and the heat transfer from the surfaces of solid and liquid. For small Stefan number or low wall temperature, the transient heat transfer from the surface of solid(QS(t)) is much larger than that from the liquid side of solid-liquid interface(QL(t)) and QL(t) reaches its quasi-steady-state value much faster than QS(t).

  • When a commercial prealloyed Fe-powder(Fe-5Cr-lMo-2Cu-0.5P-3C) is liquid phase sintered at 116$0^{\circ}C$, liquid precipitates with various shapes form within solid grains during the initial stage of sintering. The shape of a liquid precipitate changes pith the increment of their size from sphere(with radius<0.3$\mu\textrm{m}$), a transient polyhedron with more than 7 faces(1~2 $\mu\textrm{m}$), cuboid(3~5 $\mu\textrm{m}$), and finally to sphere(>5 $\mu\textrm{m}$). The shapes of liquid precipitates closely resemble the growth shapes predicted on the basis of solid-liquid interfacial energy and the coherency strain energy with anisotropic elastic constants in the diffusion zone around the precipitates.
