OPTIMIZATION OF $P^+$ SEEDING LAYER FOR THIN FILM SILICON SOLAR CELL (결정질 실리콘 박막 태양전지의 $P^+$ 씨앗층 형성 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • Thickness optimization of heavily doped p-type seeding layer was studied to improve performance of thin film silicon solar cell. We used liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) to grow active layer of $25{\MU}m$ thickness on p+ seeding layer. The cells with p+ seeding layer of $10{\mu}m\;to\;50{\mu}m$ thickness were fabricated. The highest efficiency of a cell is $12.95\%$, with Voc=633mV, $Jsc=26.5mA/cm^2,\;FF=77.15\%$. The $P^+$ seeding layer of the cell is $20{\mu}m$, thick. As thicker seeding layer than $20{\mu}m$, the performance of the cell was degraded. The results demonstrate that the part of the recombination current is due to the heavily doped seeding layer. Thickness of heavily doped p-type seeding layer was optimized to $20{\mu}m$. The performance of solar cell is expected to improve with the incorporation of light trapping as texturing and AR coating.

  • In binary solidification compositional convection in a porous mushy layer influences the quality of the final products. We consider the mushy layer solidifying from below with a constant solidification velocity. The disturbance equations for the mushy layer are derived using linear stability theory. The basic-state temperature fields and the distribution of the porosity in the mushy layer are investigated numerically. When the superheat is large, the thickness of the mushy layer is relatively small compared to the thickness of the thermal boundary layer. With decreasing the superheat the critical Rayleigh number based on the thickness of the mushy layer increases and the mushy layer becomes stable to the compositional convection. The critical Rayleigh number obtained from the continuity conditions of temperature and heat flux at the mush-liquid interface is smaller than that from the isothermal condition at the upper boundary of the mushy layer.

  • The structure of coating layer formed by hot dip Al-Cu alloy coating on Monel 1400 metal was studied. The coating layer consists of alloyed layer adjacent to the Monel 400 substrate and Al-Cu alloy. It was found that the hardness of coating increased with dipping time and heat treatment associated with the diffusion and the formation of intermetallic compound at the interface. However the thickness of coating layer was decreased at high dipping temperature due to tile higher viscosity of liquid coating alloy. Diffusion heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ after coating resulted in the disappearence of adhered Al(Cu) and $CuAl_2$ phases, and then they transformed into the new phases of CuAl and Al7Cu4Ni at coating layer.

  • We prepared a novel multi-functional dual-layer polymer electrolyte by impregnating the interconnected pores with an ethylene carbonate (EC)/dimethyl carbonate (DMC)/lithium hexafluorophosphate $(LiPF_6)$ solution. The first layer, based on a microporous polyethylene, is incompatible with a liquid electrolyte, and the second layer, based on poly (vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), is submicroporous and compatible with an electrolyte solution. The maximum ionic conductivity is $7{\times}10^{-3}S/cm$ at ambient temperature. A unit cell using the optimum polymer electrolyte showed a reversible capacity of 198 mAh/g at the 500th cycle, which was about 87% of the initial value.

  • In order to apply nano imprint technology in large area process, roller pressing is promising because of its low cost and high productivity. When pressing mold by roller, liquid resin is locally squeezed between mold and substrate. In this study, the main focus is to understand which process parameter affects residual layer. To do this, a simple analytical model was introduced. Especially, we consider the aspect ratio of patterns as essential cause of variation of the thickness in the equation. As a result, when the aspect ratio of pattern in the mold increases, the thickness of residual layer also increases. In conclusion, we show that the uniformity of residual layer could be accomplished by the control of velocity and pressing force in roller pressing imprint process.

  • In present paper, mass transfer over a flat plate with film condensation including noncondesable gas is analyzed with the help of similarity methods. Couette flow was assumed in liquid film and boundary-layer approximation was used in the ambient flow. Governing equations were transformed into the ordinary differential equtions by the similarity methods. Runge-Kutta and shooting method were used in order to fine the effect of mass transfer on the velocity and concentrations at the liquid-vapor interface.

  • We investigated the improvement of viewing angle using a patterned double twisted (PDT) vertical-alignment (VA) cell mode on a homeotropic alignment layer. Good voltage-transmittance curves for negative dielectric anisotropic nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the PDT-VA cell without a negative compensation film were obtained. The viewing angle of the PDT-VA cell without a negative compensation film was wider than that of a conventional VA cell.

  • A flexible reflective cholesteric liquid crystal display (ChLCD) is fabricated on plastic substrates by using the pixel isolation method. The polymer walls between pixels and the polymer layers in the pixels are formed by two-step UV irradiation. Electro-optical response of the ChLCD with polymer wall and layer is studied and compared with conventional bistable ChLCD cells.

  • A series of new symmetric TTF derivatives were designed and synthesized. This facile synthetic method provides an opportunity to prepare TTF-based LC candidates. This series of compounds exhibited smectic A phase based on coplanar TTF core. One of the LC compounds was used as a semiconductor layer to fabricate OTFT.
