  • Correlations of drop size and velocity in a spray from the disintegration of liquid jet and liquid film from an internal mixing twin-fluid atomizer, were determined by phase Doppler method. The distribution pattern of Sauter mean diameter(SMD) in a spray was changed by a behavior of liquid flow. As smaller droplets became faster and slower easily by the surrounding conditions, the correlation between drop size and mean velocity was found to be varied as next 3 steps; firstly smaller droplets have a higher mean velocity at the area near atomizer, droplets have almost the same mean velocity and finally larger droplets have a higher mean velocity at the area far from an atomizer.

  • The idea of $CO_2$ sequestration in the ocean is proposed to be an effective mitigation strategy to counteract potential global warming due to the greenhouse effect Therefore, in the present study, calculations of the dissolution behavior of $CO_2$ hydrate when liquid carbon dioxide is released at 1,000m and 1,500m in depth are performed. The results show the liquid $CO_2$ injected in the ocean becomes $CO_2$ bubble at between 350m and 500m in depth, and the injection from a moving ship is a more effective method of dissolution than through a fixed pipeline. It so also noted that the ultimate plume generated from $CO_2$ bubbles repeats expansion and shrinking due to the peel ins from a fixed pipeline.

  • In this paper, the hydrophobic rough surfaces were prepared by employing a conventional nano-imprint lithography technique, and the effects of surface parameter, ratio of the top surface to the flat unit cell, on the impingement behaviors of liquid droplet were investigated to improve robustness of hydrophobic functionality. The critical height defined for the transition from rebound to fragmentation is measured by droplet impingement test in order to study dynamic behavior of an impinged droplet. It showed the critical height decreased with high surface parameter while it increased with low surface parameter. However, the critical height decreased again as surface parameter decreased further. Observed results suggest that the optimized surface pattern should be designed for the increased critical height.

  • A focus is given to the breakup behavior of spray droplets issuing from a nonimpinging-type injector. The analysis has been carried out experimentally by means of the dual-mode phase Doppler anemometry (DPDA). Spray characteristic parameters in terms of axial velocity, mean diameter, velocity fluctuation, and span (width of the size distribution) of droplets are measured down the geometric axis of a nozzle orifice and on the plane normal to the spray stream with the injection pressure variations. As the injection pressure increases, the velocity and its fluctuation become higher, whereas the droplet sizes get smaller. It is also shown that the magnitudes of those parameters are smoothed out by dispersion when the droplets move downstream as well as outwardly. The atomization process is significantly influenced by the injection pressure rather than the traveling distance in the experimental condition presented.

  • Jetting stability is the most important factors in inkjet printing because printing quality is totally determined by shape of the droplets on the substrate. In order to acquire stable jet, viscosity and dynamic behavior of the ink must be considered. In addition, waveform to drive the inkjet printhead is also to be controlled. In this study, the driving waveform composed of rising time, dwell time and falling time is optimized to obtain a stable jetting using drop watcher system. Also, effect of ink viscosity on jetting is experimentally investigated by changing the temperature of ink cartridge. As a result, jetted drop having uniform velocity is acquired.

  • Spray calculation has been studied to understand the behavior of the spray in a combustion chamber But the spray dispersion has not been predicted properly in a high velocity injection spray or a wall impaction spray. In this study the extended grazing collision model is applied to improve the problem. The gas phase is modelled by the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. The droplet distributions, penetration, width and gas flows are compared for the cases with or without extended model. The extended collision model makes the results better.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the basic flame behavior characteristics using the single fuel droplet combustion of diesel, palm-based biodiesel, and canola-based biodiesel. The results were compared and analyzed through the post processed image, which was applied the threshold level for removing noise in the raw image. The raw image was taken by a high-speed camera during the entire combustion process. At the same time, the maximum flame length, which was measured by the application code of the MATLAB program, the ignition delay, and the combustion period were compared and analyzed.

  • This paper presents twin spray characteristics of two impinging F-O-O-F type injectors in which fuel and oxidizer impinge on each other to atomize under the various conditions. The droplet size and velocity in the impinging spray flow field were measured using a PDPA. The droplet size and velocity were investigated at mixture ratios of 1.5, 2.0, 2.47 and 3.0 for four injectors in which two single F-O-O-F injectors were arranged at intervals of 20.8, 31.2, 41.6 and 62.4mm respectively. In general, the arithmetic mean diameter, SMD and standard deviation of droplet size in the interaction area (X=0 and Y=0mm) were smaller. The axial velocity in the interaction area was slightly higher. Considering the behavior of impinged droplets using the We number calculated by using the axial velocity instead of the relative velocity in line C in Fig. 1(b) for four injectors, it is consumed that the We number over 500 had the possibility to disintegrate, and the We number below 500 had it to cohere after impingement of twin spray. The results of this study can be used for the design of a nozzle for liquid propellant rockets.

  • Compression ignition direct injection diesel engines employed a high pressure injection system have been developed as a measure to improve a fuel efficiency and reduce harmful emissions. In order to understand the effects of the pressure variation, many experimental works have been done, however there are many difficulties to get data in engine condition. This work gives numerical results for the high pressure effects on spray characteristics in wide or limited space with near walls. The gas phase is modelled by Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled using the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form and the drop behavior on a wall is calculated with a new droplet-wall interaction model based on the experiments observing individual drops. The droplet distributions, vapour fractions and gas flows are shown in various injection pressure cases. In free spray case which the injection spray has no wall impaction, the spray dispersion and vapour fraction increase and drop sizes decrease with increasing injection pressure. The same phenomena appears more clearly in wall impaction cases.
